Chapter 188: Country Kids Can Cook at Just a Few Years Old
’She must know she messed up, which is why she’s pretending to be so well-behaved!’ Mr. Sheng wondered to himself as he ate.
’Is my daughter genuinely sorry, or is she just planning her next stunt?!’
Mr. Sheng recalled his biological daughter’s actions, and his heart ached. ’How did I never realize my own daughter was such a cruel person?’
But given Yueyue’s behavior today, he would go a little easier on her when he disciplined her later.
If he didn’t teach her a proper lesson, Yueyue would only get more and more out of line!
Mr. Sheng ate without tasting a thing. It made him think of the food at the Su family’s home—now *that* was delicious!
Jiaojiao was so blessed. She’d been a sweet, well-behaved child, and she married a very capable man.
The success of his recent project was all thanks to Jiaojiao, because Su Shuochi knew Divine Doctor Su Gu.
It made all the influential figures see him in a new light, and he even received a commendation.
After dinner, Mrs. Sheng took her daughter out for a walk. Mr. Sheng watched their retreating figures.
He could only sigh helplessly. In the end, Sheng Yueyue had avoided another punishment.
After Gu Jiaojiao and Su Shuochi finished dinner, they went to their clinic to check on Song Zijie and his sister.
Gu Jiaojiao had initially suggested that Song Zijie be transferred to a hospital, but he was reluctant.
So, Uncle Song paid to rent Gu Jiaojiao’s clinic for a month and hired her at a high price to administer the siblings’ daily IV drips.
Only a fool would turn down money, so Gu Jiaojiao happily agreed. Just like that, she’d basically gotten two courtyards for free.
"Jiaojiao, what if we use this money to buy a plot of land in the suburbs, build a large factory, and start producing medical equipment?"
Su Shuochi asked, turning to look at Gu Jiaojiao from the passenger seat.
"Su Shuochi, can you find experts in that field?" Gu Jiaojiao asked as she drove.
"We just need to find laborers. With the prototypes from your pocket dimension, I can replicate them myself."
Su Shuochi said, full of confidence. He added that he’d always been good with his hands, even as a child.
His father was the village carpenter and even had several apprentices. When Su Shuochi was just a few years old, he could already imitate the carved beds he saw in other people’s homes.
After just a few glances, he could go home and draw up the plans, and his father could build it.
Gu Jiaojiao was deeply impressed. She couldn’t help but tease him.
"Who would’ve thought? You and your dad are both so skilled. We could hire your father as the master craftsman at the factory."
The couple chatted happily, arriving at the clinic in no time. Gu Jiaojiao changed into a white coat and set up the IV drips for Song Zijie and his sister.
Aunt Song was there looking after her children. After work, Uncle Song would also bring Song Qianqian over to have dinner with them.
By the time Gu Jiaojiao arrived, however, Uncle Song had already taken his daughter home. After all, the college entrance exams were approaching, and Song Qianqian needed to study.
After setting up the IVs, Gu Jiaojiao wheeled Su Shuochi into another room for his acupuncture with the silver needles, followed by his own IV drip.
Once everything was done, they went home to sleep. It was a nice, orderly life.
Tonight, once Gu Jiaojiao had Su Shuochi’s IV drip set up, she drove off to pick up Gao Xiangming and his men.
They had arranged over the phone to meet at 7:30 PM at number sixty-six Xiangyang Street.
When Gu Jiaojiao arrived, Gao Xiangming and his associate were already waiting.
They had seen Gu Jiaojiao’s car before, so the moment it stopped, they rushed over. "Ma’am! Right on time. Where’s Su?"
"You want to see him? Follow me. I’ll take you to him." Gu Jiaojiao didn’t get out of the car, simply rolling down the window to speak.
She and Su Shuochi had assumed Gao Xiangming would just unload the local goods, load up the rice, and leave, which was why they had arranged to meet at the gate of this courtyard.
But from the looks of it, Gao Xiangming and his companion planned to stay in Qing City for a couple of days, so Gu Jiaojiao decided to take them to the courtyard with the clinic.
There were finished rooms there. They hadn’t bought any beds yet, but it was the middle of summer, so they could just sleep on the floor.
Besides, Gu Jiaojiao had simple cots in her pocket dimension, which was much better than staying in a guesthouse.
Gao Xiangming and his companion could also help Su Shuochi out for free. It was a good deal for everyone.
By the time Gu Jiaojiao led Gao Xiangming to the courtyard gate, Su Shuochi had already finished his IV drip and removed the needle himself.
It had only been a week since the Song siblings’ surgery, so their IVs were dripping more slowly and weren’t finished yet.
"Su, you came all the way to the gate to greet us?" Gao Xiangming said, looking flattered.
"I was waiting for my wife. Not you," Su Shuochi stated coolly.
"Gao Xiangming, you’ve got some nerve. You expect a man with limited mobility to come greet you?" Gu Jiaojiao said jokingly.
’Su Shuochi is so bad with people,’ she thought. ’What’s the harm in just saying he came to meet them?’
’Gu Jiaojiao wouldn’t underestimate Gao Xiangming. A man who could secretly buy a house and a car in this climate was no simple character.’
"The ma’am is right, I was talking nonsense," Gao Xiangming said with an apologetic smile. "Have you two eaten dinner?"
"Are you offering to take us out to a restaurant? Or have you two not eaten yet?"
"It would be my honor to treat you, Ma’am. And no, we actually haven’t eaten."
"Then come on in," Su Shuochi said. "There’s a kitchen. You can make some noodles for yourselves. We’ve already eaten."
He figured letting them use the kitchen was generous enough; there was no way he was going to cook for them too.
"This is your courtyard?" Gao Xiangming’s companion asked in surprise.
"Yes. That side over there is already rented out, so don’t go over and disturb my tenants."
"Okay, Su. Can the two of us rent a room for a couple of days, then?" Gao Xiangming was quick on the uptake.
"That’s not out of the question, but the beds in the rooms are pretty basic." Gu Jiaojiao had already considered this, so she answered smoothly.
"Even a basic bed is great! If there were no beds, we could just sleep on the floor," Gao Xiangming said agreeably.
Su Shuochi was speechless.
’Since when were there beds in the rooms here?’ he wondered. ’How come I didn’t know about this?’
But he would never undermine his wife, so he kept his mouth shut.
He wheeled himself over and led Gao Xiangming and his companion to the kitchen, where they had basic condiments like oil and salt, as well as some noodles.
Houzi and his crew had cooked for themselves in this kitchen when they were renovating the courtyard.
Gao Xiangming expertly cleaned a pot, filled it with water, and started boiling the noodles. There were even tomatoes and eggs in the kitchen cabinet.
Meanwhile, Gu Jiaojiao went to check on the Song siblings. Their hospital beds were arranged facing each other to make care easier.
"Jiaojiao, do you have guests over?" Aunt Song asked curiously.
"Not exactly guests. They’re friends we met when we went to the farm to help my dad pack his things."
Gu Jiaojiao answered truthfully. ’Song Zijie must have already told his parents that they hadn’t gone to find a Divine Doctor that time.’
"Oh. Well, should I go make them something to eat?"
"No, it’s fine. They’re making themselves some noodles. Tomorrow they can buy their own groceries and cook."
"Ah, that’s true," Aunt Song remarked. "Kids from the countryside learn to cook for themselves when they’re just a few years old."
Lying in his hospital bed, Song Zijie’s mind started racing. ’Friends they met last time? How come I don’t know anything about that!’
