Chapter 160: Meeting the Future Big Shot
"Dad... Dad..." Geng Haoyi caught his father, his voice filled with anguish.
Grandpa Gu and the others rushed forward in a panic to help. "How could he just faint like that!"
"It’s fine. Jiaojiao guessed this might happen, so she gave me some medicine beforehand," Su Shuochi said calmly from his wheelchair.
He pressed his thumb firmly against Geng Ruixian’s philtrum, and soon Geng Ruixian came to.
Su Shuochi wasn’t a professional, however, and he pressed too hard, leaving a crescent-shaped mark below Geng Ruixian’s nose.
Geng Haoyi fed his dad the medicine. "Dad, your health is so poor. I’ll take you back to the Imperial City for treatment immediately."
"Haoyi, He Shen Yi and Doctor Xia are both in Qing City. There’s nothing seriously wrong with me; I just fainted because I was too excited."
Su Shuochi saw that the Geng father and son wouldn’t be finishing their conversation anytime soon, so he decided not to disturb them.
He bid farewell to Grandpa Gu and his mother-in-law, then wheeled himself off alone toward the courtyard where he kept the grain.
Halfway there, he ran into his wife. "Jiaojiao~~ Why are your clothes dirty? Are you hurt?"
"Ah, it’s nothing. I got into a fight with Sheng Shiwen on the way here. He couldn’t hurt me. The homeroom teacher just told me to go home and change."
Su Shuochi knew his wife could handle Sheng Shiwen, but he still examined her with a worried expression.
"Honey, next time just stick him with a needle and knock him out. Your clothes are a mess. Are you positive you’re not hurt?"
"I’m not hurt. Ugh, I couldn’t help it. With everyone watching, I had to fight him. I didn’t dare hurt him for real, though. I was afraid Mr. Sheng would get suspicious."
"What’s there to be afraid of? If Mr. Sheng asks, just tell him He Shen Yi taught you. Next time, just kill him with one needle poke."
Su Shuochi couldn’t bear to see his wife treated poorly. He added, "That Sheng Shiwen is a clueless brat. He doesn’t take my wife seriously."
"But I can’t stand it! Jiaojiao, I went through so much to finally marry you. Our entire family adores you."
"At home, we wouldn’t let you suffer the slightest injustice, but now you go to class only to have someone point a finger in your face and curse you out. My heart aches as if it’s being sliced by a knife."
Gu Jiaojiao laughed at Su Shuochi’s antics. "You and your drama... Stop being so melodramatic. Where were you heading off to on your own?"
Su Shuochi immediately launched into a detailed retelling of the reunion between Geng Haoyi and his father.
"He really fainted! I thought I was overthinking it. I didn’t expect Uncle Geng to be so fragile."
The couple chatted happily all the way out of the compound’s main gate. Once they reached a secluded spot, they pulled a Land Rover out of her pocket dimension.
Gu Jiaojiao changed into a clean set of clothes, then drove to Number 66 Xiangyang Street.
From a distance, they saw a young man standing in front of a large truck by the courtyard gate, craning his neck in anticipation.
Gu Jiaojiao returned the car to her pocket dimension and pushed the wheelchair slowly forward. Su Shuochi spoke to the young man.
"I’m a friend of Geng Haoyi. Did he tell you what you’re here to do in Qing City?"
Li Yanrong noted the extraordinary aura of the man in the wheelchair, but his eyes were especially drawn to the young woman pushing it. She was as beautiful as an immortal from a painting.
He didn’t answer immediately, instead griping to himself, ’No wonder the boss was so worked up he refused to rest, insisting on traveling through the night to get here.’
Seeing Li Yanrong just standing there looking dazed, Fu Junyuan, who had been sitting in the truck, quickly hopped out of the driver’s seat.
"You must be Su. Hao told us we’re here to pick up a shipment of rice."
Gu Jiaojiao looked up at the sound of his voice. The young man who emerged from the driver’s side had a full head of thick, jet-black hair.
Beneath a pair of sharp, sword-like eyebrows was a pair of slender, amorous "peach blossom" eyes. He could look at a dog and make it seem like a declaration of profound love.
Gu Jiaojiao took a closer look. ’Holy cow, isn’t this the future richest man in the Imperial City!’
’Fu Junyuan, one of the top ten on the global rich list... So this is how handsome he was when he was young.’
Su Shuochi noticed his wife seemed quite interested in the handsome young man and instantly unleashed a chilling, unapproachable aura.
"Hao is busy for the moment. Follow me inside to load the rice onto the truck."
Fu Junyuan felt a sudden chill. He rubbed his left arm. "Alright, Su."
’I don’t know why this Su guy dislikes me,’ he thought. ’It’s our first time meeting. It must be because I’m too handsome!’
"Fu, the weather in Qing City is so strange. It’s still chilly even though it’s June."
Li Yanrong said, mimicking Fu Junyuan by rubbing his arms. He hadn’t noticed Su Shuochi’s displeasure.
Gu Jiaojiao swiftly opened the courtyard gate. ’This is a future big shot,’ she thought. ’I should be a little more welcoming.’
Though she couldn’t bring herself to act like a total sycophant, she was still noticeably more polite to him than she was to most people.
This vexed Su Shuochi even more, but he still asked calmly, "Honey, do you know him?"
"Yes, yes, he’s a future tycoon..." Gu Jiaojiao whispered excitedly into his ear.
After a few more sentences, she saw his expression darken and felt the cold aura he was deliberately releasing, so she quickly changed her tune.
"But I know you’re definitely more incredible than he is! It’s just that... in the future I know, your legs were never cured, so you died young. Otherwise, your accomplishments would have far surpassed his."
Ignoring the fact that they had company, Su Shuochi emotionally pulled her head into his arms.
’The feeling of being trusted by my wife is truly wonderful,’ he thought. His whole body surged with energy.
He wished he could unleash his full power right then and there to prove to her that she hadn’t put her faith in the wrong person—that her judgment was impeccable.
Gu Jiaojiao was mid-sentence when she was suddenly pulled into a warm embrace. Su Shuochi then leaned down and gently pressed a kiss to her forehead.
She quickly straightened up, not wanting the future tycoon to laugh at them.
But Fu Junyuan wasn’t laughing at all. In fact, he was incredibly grateful to her. Fu Junyuan’s emotional intelligence was exceptionally high.
He knew that it was this immortal-like beauty who had melted the iceberg of a man, making his chilling aura recede.
He deliberately lagged a few steps behind so as not to disturb them. Li Yanrong, however, had no such tact.
He blundered forward. "Su, is this your courtyard? Where’s Hao?"
Without Hao around, he felt a little spooked.
"Haoyi has an important matter to attend to. I brought you some breakfast. Sit down and eat first, and we’ll load the truck when you’re finished."
Having been soothed by Gu Jiaojiao, Su Shuochi’s tone became much milder.
The spooked Li Yanrong’s face immediately lit up at the sight of food. "Thanks, Su! This must be your wife, right?"
"Yes, she’s my wife, Gu Jiaojiao. You can just call her Madam Su."
"Madam Su is gorgeous," Fu Junyuan chimed in smoothly. "Even more beautiful than the Seven Immortal Maidens on TV."
’As expected of a future tycoon,’ Gu Jiaojiao mused. ’His IQ is off the charts.’
Fu Junyuan was a smooth talker. And with his temper already soothed by his wife’s praise, Su Shuochi found himself hitting it off with the young man.
By the time it was nearly noon, they still hadn’t started loading the truck. "Why don’t you both come to my house for lunch?" Su Shuochi offered.
"Great, great!" Li Yanrong exclaimed excitedly.
"Thank you, Su. We’ll go with whatever you arrange," Fu Junyuan said humbly.
Meanwhile, He Shen Yi and Xia Qiuming had encountered a difficult case. Elsewhere, a high-ranking city official and Mr. Sheng went to the school to pick up Gu Jiaojiao.
