Chapter 158: Grandpa Sheng Angered into Shock
Sheng Yueyue was incredibly arrogant; how could she possibly tolerate the crowd pointing and staring at her!
She directed all her seething resentment at Gu Jiaojiao. While Sheng Shiwen stood there stunned, she wrenched her hand free.
She lunged forward to grab Gu Jiaojiao’s hair, but Gu Jiaojiao sidestepped her.
Her sneak attack having failed, Sheng Yueyue cursed relentlessly, "You ungrateful wretch, how dare you run?"
Gu Jiaojiao sneered, "Sheng Yueyue, don’t push your luck. Do you think the whole world is your mother? Take one more step, and I’ll knock your teeth out."
Sheng Yueyue was so furious she started crying. "SOB... How dare an ungrateful wretch like you talk to me that way?"
Gu Jiaojiao taunted her disdainfully, "And who do you think you are? How *should* I be speaking to you?"
Sheng Yueyue seethed through clenched teeth, "I’m going to knock you to the ground right here on the street and let everyone watch you eat dirt!"
Gu Jiaojiao sneered, "Oh, so that was you on the ground eating dirt just now? Fine. Bring it on."
Cursing under her breath, Sheng Yueyue advanced step by step, her eyes blazing with killing intent and resentment. "Gu Jiaojiao, since you insist on being so wretched, then I’ll grant you your wish."
"You actually dare to fight? How brave of you. Come on, let’s see you perform ’eat dirt’ again."
Sheng Yueyue roared furiously, "What’s there to be afraid of? Let’s see who hits the ground first this time! Do you even know who I am?"
"Of course, I know. You’re Mr. Sheng’s biological daughter. Oh! Right. You’re about to say you’re the chosen one, invincible and all that, aren’t you?"
Gu Jiaojiao calmly provoked Sheng Yueyue, realizing for the first time that arguing with an idiot could be quite enjoyable.
In her past life, she might have only known how to study and work, but she also understood that only 45% of a person’s success comes from their professional knowledge.
The other 55% comes from their ability to express ideas, lead others, and inspire passion.
So Gu Jiaojiao quickly fired up the onlookers, and everyone started chattering at once.
"Someone like Sheng Yueyue dares to call herself the chosen one? If you ask me, she’s delusional. I heard two Divine Doctors came to the Imperial City. Sheng Shiwen should hurry up and take her to get her head checked."
"Right, right, our Jiaojiao is more like the chosen one. She’s beautiful, and her smile is so lovely."
"Haha... If Sheng Yueyue is a fairy, then I must be Prince Charming, haha..."
Enraged, Sheng Yueyue kicked at Gu Jiaojiao. Gu Jiaojiao nimbly dodged and landed a spinning back kick right in Sheng Yueyue’s stomach.
Sheng Yueyue cried out and fell to the ground. She clutched her stomach and curled up, groaning in pain.
Gu Jiaojiao looked at her coldly and kicked her again for good measure. "Sheng Yueyue, your performance just now wasn’t up to standard. *This* is the proper ’eating dirt’ posture."
Seeing his own sister kicked to the ground again, Sheng Shiwen was furious. "Gu Jiaojiao, that’s enough! Don’t blame me for forgetting we were once brother and sister."
Gu Jiaojiao scoffed. "That’s assuming you could even do anything. You said it yourself—it was in the past. ’Past’ means it’s over."
Sheng Yueyue’s face was twisted, her eyes bloodshot. "Gu Jiaojiao, you know what? You really deserve to die. You being alive just makes me miserable."
Sheng Shiwen heard his sister once again blurt out that she wanted Gu Jiaojiao dead, and he feared she would say something even more outrageous.
He only intended to pretend to hit Gu Jiaojiao a few times, hoping to calm his sister’s fury.
But Gu Jiaojiao wasn’t one to back down, and having no idea what was going through Sheng Shiwen’s mind, she deftly dodged his attacks and even landed a few kicks of her own.
The former adoptive siblings fought each other for the first time. At the beginning, neither of them used their full strength.
As they fought, both became furious, neither giving an inch. In the end, neither gained the upper hand; instead, they both just got their clothes dirty and looked a mess.
Seeing she was about to be late for class, Gu Jiaojiao kicked out. "Get lost."
Sheng Shiwen sat on the ground clutching his stomach, his eyes wide with astonishment. ’When did Jiaojiao get so strong?!’
Seeing her brother also kicked to the ground, Sheng Yueyue glared viciously at Gu Jiaojiao. "Gu Jiaojiao, you won’t come to a good end."
Sheng Shiwen struggled to his feet and limped towards Gu Jiaojiao.
If he didn’t win against Gu Jiaojiao this time, he would become the laughingstock of the compound.
Gu Jiaojiao sneered, then turned and lifted a slender leg, kicking him hard on the rear. Sheng Shiwen was sent flying.
"THUD—THUD—"
’Strange. Only one person fell, so why were there two thuds?’ Gu Jiaojiao looked over and saw that an old man had also collapsed to the ground, unmoving.
Gu Jiaojiao moved closer for a look. ’Oh no, it’s my adoptive grandfather.’
Old Sir Sheng was nearly seventy, his weather-beaten face covered in wrinkles.
What stood out most was his large, high-bridged nose set in his gaunt face.
Those bright, spirited eyes were shut tight. Scenes of how the old man used to dote on her flashed through Gu Jiaojiao’s mind.
The old man’s heart was already weak. The stress of watching them fight had triggered a myocardial infarction, and he’d gone into shock.
Looking at the deathly pale face before her, Gu Jiaojiao felt a pang of sorrow.
The stress from his grandchildren had caused an arrhythmia, leading to shock or heart failure. Without immediate treatment, he’d be a goner.
Gu Jiaojiao immediately started resuscitation, then pulled the correct medicine from her bag and administered it to Old Sir Sheng.
Mr. Song knew Gu Jiaojiao’s medical skills were superb. When Gu Jiaojiao approached his old friend, he stopped others from coming forward.
The people who stopped to watch were either bored out of their skulls or just a bunch of nosy gossips.
Seeing the highly respected Elder Song stop them from approaching, they were happy to stay put and just watched quietly.
Old Sir Sheng and Mr. Song had been passing by when Old Sir Sheng saw his own grandson and granddaughter confronting his adoptive granddaughter.
A sense of helplessness had washed over him. He was disappointed to see Sheng Yueyue knocked to the ground, but then felt a surge of excitement when he saw Gu Jiaojiao winning.
With his already weak heart, the emotional rollercoaster was too much to bear, and he finally collapsed.
There was a crushing tightness in his chest, chest pain, and body aches. Old Sir Sheng thought he was a goner for sure this time.
"Cough... cough..."
A pair of hands was still performing compressions on his chest. He coughed twice and opened his eyes to the sight of Gu Jiaojiao’s worried gaze.
"Jiaojiao... am I dead?"
Seeing the old man’s adorably befuddled expression, like a mischievous old kid, Gu Jiaojiao felt a rush of joy from having saved him, and a natural smile spread across her face.
"Grandpa Sheng, you had a medical episode just now, but you’re fine now. You need to take better care of yourself. I’m off to class now."
With that, Gu Jiaojiao snatched up her bag and quickly ran off.
It wasn’t that she was afraid of anyone; she was just afraid they would ask how she’d brought someone back from the dead. That was a question she had dreaded answering even in her past life.
Gu Jiaojiao made a cool exit, leaving the crowd of onlookers completely dumbfounded. Before they could even react, she was gone.
Mr. Song knelt down and, together with Sheng Shiwen who had crawled over, helped Old Sir Sheng up.
The two old men exchanged a look but didn’t say anything.
"Grandpa, are you hurt? Should we take you to the hospital?" Sheng Shiwen asked worriedly.
Aside from his inability to handle the relationship between his biological and adoptive sisters, he was a very devoted grandson.
He hadn’t noticed his grandfather in the crowd earlier.
"Yes, let’s go to the hospital for a check-up." Old Sir Sheng’s whole body felt much lighter now.
