Chapter 203: This Is Just the Beginning
This thought finally brought Ye Shixian a sliver of peace.
Just then, a noise from up ahead drew her attention. She looked up just in time to see the door swing open.
Lian Zhou was the first to step out. Ye Shixian’s gaze shifted past him, and then she saw Shen Yanchuan.
’Is he holding something?’
Ye Shixian’s heart leaped into her throat—she remembered that Shen Yanchuan had been empty-handed when he went in, but now...
She was about to move closer for a better look when another thought struck her: ’Where’s Ye Chutang?’
Shen Yanchuan came to a stop and looked back, as if waiting for someone.
An inexplicable sense of unease settled over Ye Shixian.
A moment later, Ye Chutang’s figure emerged from the room as well.
Ye Shixian quickly sized her up, trying to read the situation, but at that exact moment, Ye Chutang suddenly looked up at her!
Her dark eyes were calm and piercing as she stared over, devoid of any emotion.
Ye Shixian shivered for no apparent reason. An indescribable chill shot up from the soles of her feet, instantly enveloping her!
She instinctively took a step back.
"Miss, what’s wrong?"
Shaoyao quickly steadied her, asking in confusion.
Ye Shixian’s lips trembled, but she found herself unable to speak.
’Was she supposed to admit that she’d been completely unnerved by a single glance from Ye Chutang!?’
A single glance, and a fear unlike any she had ever known surged through her heart!
"N-Nothing." Ye Shixian forced herself to remain composed and was the first to look away.
To her surprise, however, Ye Chutang suddenly started walking toward her!
The young woman approached at a slow, unhurried, and graceful pace. Yet, to Ye Shixian, it felt as if the very air around her was rapidly thinning.
An indescribable pressure washed over her!
Ye Shixian felt humiliated, a mix of shame and anger rising within her.
’She’s actually becoming afraid of Ye Chutang!?’
The moment Ye Chutang stopped before her, Ye Shixian did her best to ignore the strange fear welling up inside her. She straightened her back and spoke in a cold tone.
"What is it?"
Ye Chutang met her gaze and suddenly asked:
"Do you know what I was thinking on the day something happened to Father, Mother, and my brother?"
Ye Shixian froze. "What?"
"I have some bad news, and some good news. The bad news is: your Mid-Autumn Festival is canceled this year." Ye Chutang glanced up at the bright, full moon, a slight smile touching her lips. Then she leaned in close and whispered into her ear, her voice laced with amusement.
"The good news is... you’re about to find out the answer to my question."
"What are you talking about?"
Ye Shixian frowned, pretending not to understand what Ye Chutang meant.
But Ye Chutang didn’t care.
She straightened up, putting some distance between them.
Just as Ye Shixian was about to press for an answer, she suddenly sensed that something was amiss.
She glanced instinctively to the side, only to find that she had, at some point, been surrounded!
The atmosphere was grim and chilling!
The sense of unease intensified, and Ye Shixian’s heart hammered against her ribs, threatening to burst from her chest.
She turned to Shen Yanchuan. "Young Master, what is the meaning of this?"
Shen Yanchuan didn’t answer her question. He simply raised a hand, his voice calm.
"Proceed immediately to Fengling Lane and seal the Ye Family residence."
"Yes, sir!"
Ye Shixian froze on the spot, sheer panic finally overwhelming her.
She rushed forward. "Princely Heir! What are you doing?!"
She had barely taken a step before guards surged forward to block her path.
SHING—!
Staring at the cold, crossed blades before her, Ye Shixian stopped dead in her tracks, her heart pounding with terror.
