My Second Marriage with the Mafia Kingpin

Chapter 183: Step Down

Meanwhile, somewhere in the world...

A woman in a smart suit hurried toward the lift as it opened.

"Sir—Sir Gustav!" the woman called out nervously, stopping dead in her tracks.

Gustav glanced at her, his strides steady and calm. In his hand was a large black duffel bag.

"Cancel her entire schedule for the day," he said as he walked past the woman.

"But—" the secretary gasped slightly before hurrying to follow him. "Sir Gustav, Miss Nikki has a lot of important meetings today. Some of them have been booked since last year."

Gustav’s expression didn’t change, nor did his steps slow as he headed straight to where Nikki was.

"Sir Gustav..."

Gustav stopped in front of the large doors and turned to her. The second his eyes landed on her, her shoulders stiffened, and her throat tightened.

Her throat bobbed as she gulped. "I’ll cancel everything, sir."

With that, she took a few steps back while Gustav reached for the door and walked inside. When she lifted her head, she bit her lip, staring at the door worriedly.

"My God," she whispered, biting the tip of her thumb before quickly pulling out her phone. Speed-dialing, she spoke as soon as the line connected.

"Bring in an ambulance... just in case," she ordered. "Sir Gustav is here."

At the same time, Gustav stopped a few steps inside the conference room. The door automatically swung closed behind him, leaving the faint echo of its quiet creak.

"As for this—" the presenter at the front paused at the sight of the intruder.

Everyone seated around the long conference table turned toward Gustav. Some furrowed their brows, while others looked surprised enough of a reaction to show who knew him and who didn’t.

At the end of the long oval table sat a woman.

The corner of her red lips curled up, her long lashes fluttering as her naturally foxy eyes narrowed slightly. She sat with one leg crossed over the other, her arm resting on the armrest; the air around her exuded calmness.

"Who is he?" one of the people inside wondered aloud, glancing at the others.

But before anyone could answer, the CEO of the company, Nikki, spoke.

"Gustav," she hummed. "What brings you here?"

Gustav stared coldly at Nikki, then at everyone else. Without a word, he approached the table and stopped at the opposite end. He dropped his duffel bag on the table, making several people raise their brows.

Those seated near him gasped as soon as he unzipped the bag. Nikki, on the other hand, arched a brow as she watched Gustav pull out a rifle part.

Gustav swiftly and quietly assembled the rifle right in front of everyone, causing panic among those unfamiliar with him. As for the others, they glanced at Nikki and then snapped their heads back toward Gustav.

For those in Dominion, something like this was very familiar.

It was part of their torture methods—making their target watch as they prepared their weapons, whether guns, knives, or any tool, for added psychological pressure.

The question was, who had Gustav come here for today?

"Sir Gustav!" When one of the people couldn’t take it anymore, he jumped from his seat. "Sir Gustav, what are you doing—"

BANG!

Sharp gasps echoed through the conference room, quickly swallowed by stunned silence. Others held their breath, unsure whether to feel relieved they were still alive or terrified to see who was now bleeding.

When they recovered, their eyes went to the rifle in Gustav’s hands, then slowly followed where it was aimed.

Soon, everyone found themselves staring at Nikki with wide eyes.

The smile on Nikki’s face faded, her gaze fixed on Gustav. She didn’t flinch even as blood appeared on her cheek—a small cut caused by the wind from the bullet. Gustav had shot at her, but the bullet hadn’t been close enough to hit or graze her, only close enough to leave a cut.

"As expected from his right hand," she mused, her voice amused and alluring. "Your marksmanship always leaves me in awe, Gustav."

Gustav lifted his chin as he lowered the rifle. "The Master specifically wanted that bullet straight to your throat," he said. "Had he been the one to come here instead of me..."

Nikki arched a brow as she leaned back, drawing a slow breath. "He wants me dead?" she scoffed. "For something as simple as that?"

"Nikki." Gustav’s face darkened, his expression turning colder as he shut out everyone else in the room. "Don’t cross the line again."

Her expression hardened as she held his gaze.

"I wouldn’t be able to beg for you if you do," he added, finally glancing at the people around them before returning his eyes to her. "Step down."

"What?"

"You." Ignoring her, Gustav turned to the presenter.

The young man stiffened and paled. "Ye—yes, sir?!" he stuttered, nearly jumping when his eyes fell on the rifle.

He was just a new hire, trying to prove himself. His stable job depended on this presentation. But somehow, this man had barged in, assembled a weapon, and fired at the CEO!

What in the world was going on?

"You are the new CEO."

"...Ah?" The young man went blank, blinking at Gustav in stunned silence. Everyone else gasped, even jumping in shock. As for Nikki, her jaw tightened.

"What did you say?"

However, Gustav didn’t spare them another glance. He turned back to the woman seated at the far end of the table.

"Your position is a small price to pay for overstepping... and for making me come all the way here," he said, his eyes locked on her. Ironic as it sounded, he still added, "You’re welcome."

With that, Gustav tapped the rifle against the table and walked out, leaving the luggage behind.

The entire conference room fell into silence for a full minute after he left.

"Hah," Nikki let out a scoff, disbelief flickering across her face at how far Lucian had gone.

Hadn’t that little wife of his leaked information as well and damaged Dominion in the process?

All Nikki had done was give Emma some irrelevant information, especially since Lucian had already reached out to his sister. And yet, she was the one being punished?

"How ridiculous," she breathed out sharply, planting her hands on the armrest as she pushed herself to her feet.

Nikki swept a cold gaze over everyone before it landed on the presenter.

"Congratulations on being CEO," she said before walking out—her expression composed, though her hands were clenched tightly at her sides, trembling.
