Gigolo Diaries

Chapter 41: A Letter From The Past.

Eros eventually found the library, and contrary to his expectations, it turned out to be much bigger than he had expected. The basement of the building had been divided into two sections, and one of them had been converted into a library.

The moment Eros stepped in, a wave of dust and spiderwebs attacked him.

The place smelled of dry paper and there was hardly any source of light other than the dim glowing candles hanging on the wall. They lit up the moment he stepped in.

Eros wasn’t too bothered about the dust as he just needed a few books.

The shelves were arranged in rows and columns fitted closely together, leaving only little space for him to maneuver his way through the different corners of the library.

It didn’t take long for Eros to realize that he had underestimated how long it would take for him to actually find what he was looking for.

A few hours later he stepped out of the basement, coughing and covered in dust and cobwebs.

He held the books in his hands. Three of them.

The first book he began reading was a combination of a map and an encyclopedia. It detailed the entire infrastructure of the Rosvelt Empire. From what he understood, the place he was currently in was called The Edge. A developed state at the southern border of the empire.

The empire itself was divided into seven normal states, two border states, and one central state. The seven states were each named after the most powerful noble family in the state. The northern border state was named The Gate. And then there was the central state.

Envadia was in the central state, which was over a thousand miles away. So it’d take a while for him to get back home.

There were a few teleportation stations though, so it wouldn’t be that hard to get back to the central state.

He quickly moved on to the second book as he already knew most of the things in the first.

The second book was named, The Brilliant History Of The Twilight Academy. It had been the only book he had been able to find on Raven Twilight.

After reading a few pages though, he soon realised that there was hardly any useful information about her as the book mainly talked about the institution she had built. He had expected this, though, as members of the saints cabinet tended to have really secretive private lives. This was common knowledge.

The last book had four words boldly plastered on its body: The Art Of Perfection.

It contained a list of all known perfect body users and the abilities that this perk has brought them throughout the entirety of their lives.

The first documented person was Elliot Rosvelt. He had lived in the previous epoch and was a member of the previous royal family.

There was hardly any verifiable information about him left. And the little that existed was a letter he had written at the end of his life documenting his thoughts and experiences with the perfect body.

The moment Eros turned the page he found an exact copy of the letter plastered on the book. It read:

I have started losing my mind. So take whatever foolish thing I say with a grain of salt.

While the achievement of a perfect body brings quite a number of perks. I can look at it as nothing but a curse.

After the first tribulation, I had thought that was the end. But for some reason, it wasn’t. I, perhaps by mistake, unlocked the second tribulation. It was different from what I expected, a brand new world I must say.

It was hard, but I survived it in the end.

The third tribulation was what really...drove me mad. Those beings, they took me—

The writing was abruptly cut off. Eros couldn’t help but frown, he had almost thought he was about to get actually useful information. But even then, this letter left a bad feeling in his gut.

Below the letter was a note from the author of the book.

It read: "Please, do take this information with a grain of salt. No other perfect body user has had the experience of a second tribulation."

Eros frowned for a second, he hadn’t even gone through the first tribulation and now he was hearing about a second trial. He decided not to think about it much, at least for now.

He read a little more, going through the lives of two more Perfect Body users. These were more normal as they mainly talked about the abilities that came with the change.

The most common abilities were Improved physical traits, faster and easier breakthroughs to future ranks, immunity to toxins, immunity to impure nexus, extremely sharp instincts, and a few more.

He had used most of the abilities, especially the sharp instincts. That alone had been the only reason he had survived the mountain.

Before he closed the book, he saw something else that caught his eye. It was a note from one of the most recent Perfect Body users. It read: From history, it is clear how much fate hates and loves us.

While he couldn’t discern any deep meaning to the quote, he couldn’t deny how philosophical it sounded.

He closed the book. Eros went to check on Leia to make sure she wasn’t up to no good. He found her lying atop the book which she was reading earlier, he was surprised to find that she was sleeping. He didn’t disturb her.

With nothing to do now, he went into the kitchen to make something edible.

At this point, it was already late in the evening and the day was growing darker by the second. If Lain didn’t come soon he might begin to worry.

Then he heard a knock on the door. A light tapping that resounded irregularly.

Eros frowned a little; Lain had no reason to knock so he doubted it was her. But if it wasn’t then he had no idea who it was and what the person’s intentions were.

He walked to the door and looked through the keyhole. To his surprise he found Elaine swaying slightly in front of the door.

A seed of worry was planted in his heart as he opened the door. To his greatest surprise, Elaine was standing right there with an empty bottle of wine, her body swaying slightly with the wind and her blue hair clung messily to her face.

It was quite clear that she was drunk.
