Chapter 505: You Are the Whitest and the Prettiest
Tan Lin immediately stopped trying to persuade them. They were heading off to make money, and if he kept them here eating watermelon, the time wasted would be enough to buy ten of them. He chuckled and said, "You should come over and visit more often. I won’t keep you."
Tan Tao said with a forced smile, "Okay, we’ll come by when we have time."
’As if. Even if I wanted to see Tan You, I’d definitely go to her dorm or Tan Deming’s place in the future. As for Tan Lin’s house, I doubt I’ll ever be back.’
After seeing Tan Tao and Tan Qin off, Tan Lin returned to the living room and sat down. "I’ve stocked your dorm with rice, flour, oil, and other staples. Are you sure you don’t want to eat at the school cafeteria?"
"No," Tan You refused. "It’s not that I’m a picky eater, but the cafeteria food is honestly terrible. I can take care of myself. You just focus on living your own life."
"Alrighty, I’ll definitely listen to the boss," Tan Lin said with a playful grin. "Stay for dinner tonight. You can head back to school after you eat."
"No, I’m going back to my dorm to work on some problems now. I’ll head straight to the classroom later." Tan You had no intention of staying any longer. The main reason was that seeing Tan Lin reminded her of the past. ’That being the case, it’s better for me to keep my distance from him for now.’
Tan Lin sighed. "Alright, then. Do you want me to walk you over?"
"No need, it’s just a short walk." Tan You waved her hand. "I’m off. You just focus on taking good care of Tan Yue. Living your own life well is what’s important."
After leaving Tan Lin’s house, Tan You stopped by a supermarket on the way and bought some ingredients. Once she got back to her dorm, she worked on her practice problems. Just before five o’clock, she steamed a pot of rice and then made one dish and a soup in her small kitchen.
The faculty dorm that Li Fugui had helped her find had a nice layout. The previous resident had even partitioned off a small kitchen. The gas stove and gas canister were things Tan Lin and Cheng Wenhui had brought back from City C. Since they didn’t need them for their new home, Tan Lin had brought them here.
Tan You didn’t mind. ’As long as it works, who cares if it’s new or old?’
Tan You had already planned it all out. Students had to be at school by 6:40 in the morning, and she usually woke up at five. That gave her more than enough time to go grocery shopping, cook her meals for the day, and store them in the fridge. For lunch and dinner, all she had to do was come back to her dorm and heat them up.
’Food I make myself suits my own tastes better anyway.’
After she finished eating and washing the dishes, Tan You ran into Li Fugui just as she was heading out. He looked up at her and asked, "Cooking for yourself? Can you manage all that?"
"If I can’t manage, I’ll just order from the school cafeteria. I’ll give it a try for a month. I’ve already calculated the time, so it shouldn’t be a problem." Tan You shrugged, knowing Teacher Li was just concerned about her.
Teacher Li shrugged. "You manage your time as you see fit. The placement test is tomorrow. Are you confident?"
Tan You raised an eyebrow. "I’m not afraid of anything."
Teacher Li chuckled. "So confident, huh? Alright, I’ll be keeping a close eye on your math score then. If you don’t get a perfect score, you’ll see how I’ll deal with you."
Tan You looked at the academic building across the road. "What’s the plan for the evening self-study session tonight?"
Teacher Li spread his hands. "There’s no real plan. Tonight is mainly for everyone to get to know each other and then we’ll sort out the seating. Where do you want to sit?"
"Your eyesight isn’t great, and you’re tall, so if you sit in the front, you’ll easily block the students behind you. But if you sit in the back, I’m worried you won’t be able to see the blackboard."
Tan You thought for a moment. "Aren’t there seats next to the podium? I’ll just sit there. I don’t want to move when we change seats in the future, so I’ll just settle there."
Teacher Li was amused. "That’s not exactly a prime spot. It’s the designated seat for problem students. Are you sure you want to sit there?"
"Yep, right there." Tan You didn’t hesitate in the slightest. "Sitting alone is more peaceful."
"Fine, if you’ve made up your mind, then sit there. You’ll have all the teachers keeping an eye on you from now on," Li Fugui said, half-jokingly trying to scare her. Tan You just shrugged, not taking it to heart at all.
Just as Li Fugui had said, the evening session consisted of student introductions, followed by seating arrangements. Some students were lively and outgoing, making everyone burst into laughter with just a few words of introduction.
Others were quiet and introverted, not daring to look down at the class during their introduction, their faces flushing bright red. After muttering a few words in a voice as quiet as a mosquito’s buzz, they would hurry off the stage.
Watching her classmates go up one by one, Tan You got a rough sense of their personalities. Soon, it was her turn. The moment she stepped onto the podium, a round of applause erupted in the classroom.
Tan You raised a slight eyebrow. "What’s all this? Am I that famous?"
"Yeah, Tan You, you’re super famous in our grade!" a boy shouted.
Tan You rested her hands on the podium and leaned forward slightly. "Oh? How so?"
"It’s because you’re so fair-skinned! And super pretty!"
"When you smile, you look like a white jade steamed bun."
Tan You laughed and shook her head. "Well, thank you for complimenting me by saying I look like a white jade steamed bun. I’m so honored."
Seeing that Tan You could take a joke, the other students were even happier. A girl who was good-looking, had a good temper, wasn’t stuck-up, and could take a joke was undoubtedly going to be very popular in class.
Tan You reined in her smile a little. "Although many of you might already know my name, I should still introduce myself. My name is Tan You, I’m sixteen, and I originally attended junior high at the main campus."
"If any of you have questions about the school, feel free to ask me. I’ll be sure to tell you everything I know. In the time to come, let’s all study together and improve together. Thank you, everyone!"
"Yeah!" The boy who had spoken first was the first to applaud. He was clearly the type who liked to get things going.
Other students immediately followed suit, all of them clearly having a good impression of Tan You.
Tan You smiled again before walking off the podium. Li Fugui looked at her, then at the students, and his eyes suddenly narrowed. ’With Tan You’s kind of charisma, it would be a shame if she didn’t become the class president.’
And just as he’d thought, during the election for temporary class officers, Tan You won first place by an overwhelming majority, claiming the title of class president. That, or the subject representative positions that came up every semester, like the Chinese representative, English representative, History representative, and so on.

To be honest, Tan You found it quite novel. In her life as Han Tingting, despite her good grades, she had never been class president. The most she’d ever been was the math subject representative.
During the seating arrangement, Yin Xiu was a little disappointed. "It’s a shame we can’t be deskmates."
Tan You replied, "Mine is a special case. If my vision were as good as yours, I could naturally choose any seat."
Yin Xiu couldn’t help but sigh. "What a pity. You’re even prettier without your glasses, but it’s a shame so few people have seen you without them."
Tan You just smiled and shrugged. "Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to take my glasses off for good? Technology is always advancing, after all."
