Witch Taming System

Chapter 79: Port Town [2]

According to the witch who had introduced herself as Eleonora, pixies were strange creatures.

What should have been a simple bodily liquid came in the form of dust instead, acting like a seal that kept it unusable until the right conditions were met.

To unseal it, the dust needed to react with another person’s bodily fluid.

"If that’s the case, can’t you just use your spit or something?" Lancel asked.

"That sounds like it would work, but the output isn’t enough," Eleonora replied, shaking her head. "Spit doesn’t have nearly enough potency for a proper reaction. That’s why we use urine instead. It’s much stronger and more reliable."

She leaned against the counter, her oversized robes swaying with the movement and drawing attention to the heavy curve of her bust once again.

"Then couldn’t it be your..."

"My, are you asking a refined lady like myself to sell you my urine?" Eleonora asked, a teasing smile spreading across her lips. "How bold of you~"

Basically, it came down to purchasing something that contained someone’s urine. For all intents and purposes, the customer would feel better knowing their own urine was the one reacting with the Pixie Extract rather than the seller’s.

It was like preferring the chef to wear gloves while cooking, but not minding if you were the one doing the cooking yourself. Something like that.

"Then... can’t it wait until it’s about to be used? Does it really need urine right now?"

Lancel had plenty of logical questions. After all, he wasn’t the one who would be using the Pixie Extract. It was for Faust. Couldn’t she just add her own urine when the time actually came?

"You sure have a lot of questions," Eleonora said. "Listen carefully. Pixie Extract spoils very quickly once it leaves the special engraved container. To prevent that, the dust must be diluted with its specified solvent right away. Do you get it now?"

"...."

Whether this was complete bullshit or some weird kink, Lancel couldn’t tell. Either way, he had already wasted too much time on the first item.

If it really had to come down to this, then fine. It was just urine, anyway.

"...Where’s the bathroom?"

"Over there~"

* * *

"Come back again next time~"

"...Sure."

Lancel felt as if he had just lost a bit of his dignity for no apparent reason.

Nevertheless, he crossed out the first item on the list.

"...I hope the other items won’t need some weird conditions."

Thankfully, that hadn’t been the case. After stopping by a few more shops, Lancel had managed to secure four out of the thirty items on the list.

He had come to realize that not all the items Faust asked him to procure were rare or heavily haggled over by witches. At least, for the first few items on the list.

"...I spoke too soon."

The next item, however, had a long line. The queue stretched out of the store and into the street, even spilling onto the main road.

"You’ve got to be kidding me..."

It was practically impossible.

Lancel was sure that by the time his turn came, the material he needed would already be sold out.

Just as he was about to turn away, someone suddenly called out to him.

"Lancel!"

Lancel turned around. Standing near the store’s entrance was a witch he hadn’t expected to see here.

"Miss Fiore?"

Lancel quickly walked over as Fiore waved at him with her usual bright smile.

"It’s been a while," she asked. "How have you been?"

"Same as always. How long have you been here?"

"Before the sun was even up."

"...."

"The line was actually much longer earlier, you know? Anyway, what are you doing here?"

"I’ve come to run some errands for Faust... I actually needed something from this store. But it seems like we were unprepared..."

"Oh? If that’s the case, just skip ahead of me. Come here."

"Uh...?"

Lancel didn’t need to look around to feel the murderous glares coming from the other witches in line. Many of them had probably been waiting just as long as Fiore.

"I think I’ll have to pass..."

"Why? I don’t really mind, to be honest."

"No, I’ll probably die before I get home.

"Fiore tilted her head in confusion. It hadn’t occurred to her that the other witches would mind so much.

"I don’t get it. Well, what do you need? I can probably get it for you."

"Ah, is that alright?"

"Sure. It’s for Countess Lieber, right? Might as well score some brownie points. Hee-hee!"

"Then..."

Lancel showed her the list.

"Hmm..." Fiore hummed as she looked it over. "Nighwood Branches... Alright. I heard they’ve just been restocked recently. I’ll try if it’s still available."

"Thanks, you’re a big help."

"No problem!"

With that, Lancel headed off to the next store while Fiore stayed in line for him. At least the Nighwood Branches were secured.

Port Town was bustling with activity. The recent resupply had brought in crowds, and nearly every shop was packed with witches and adventurers alike.

It was surprising to see how many adventurers were actually on friendly terms with witches, chatting casually as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

Lancel eventually found the next shop. The moment he stepped inside, he realized it was a large self-service grocery center crowded with people. This time, eight of the items on his list were from this single store.

He grabbed a basket and began making his way through the aisles.

"What is this... canned beetles?"

Even among the strange goods, there was an entire section dedicated to bizarre canned items, and canned beetles were proudly displayed right there.

After securing three more items, Lancel moved over to another section.

The moment he reached out for something on the shelf, his hand brushed against someone else’s.

"Ah, sorry."

"Hm?"

When he turned to see who it was, Lancel felt his heart drop.

"Lancel."

"...Angelica?"

After escaping from that crazy bitch Angelica nearly two months ago, they had finally reunited.
