Chapter 118: Field 251
Fengyu and the twins decided to attend the neighbourhood gathering, thinking that it was the best option in their current situation.
The letter contained the destination and time - in field 251 of the southeastern region, just a week later, starting in the middle hours of the day.
Time passed rapidly, Fengyu and the other two prepared a few simple items for the gathering and went out together.
Going through the fields would take too long, so they instead went to the city and out the nearest gate, walking along the paths to the field.
To their surprise, the surrounding fields were all decorated well and had special environments - some were large forests, some had hills, others seemed like a large lake, and some even had red earth.
They marvelled at this sight, gaining a new understanding of what it meant to be a strong planter and herder. Such an environment... it truly was a testament to how much you could do with your own power.
The group saw many other cultivators pass by on their way, each of them dressed very well, making them look pale and like people from the countryside going to the village.
Fengyu comforted the slightly uncomfortable twins, telling them that it was just a matter of time before they could also look like that.
Among the cultivators that passed by, they also saw some riding leaves, plates, swords and other items, hovering slightly above the ground, moving rapidly along the path to the destination they were headed to.
"Foundation Building cultivators!" Ming exclaimed in surprise.
"So many of them too," Ling couldn’t help but marvel.
Fengyu nodded and agreed wholeheartedly with their shock. He, too, couldn’t fathom seeing so many at the same time.
As he walked forward, he soon approached the end of the road, seeing their destination -
It was a large open field with a slightly raised hill, on which there were many buildings and even a pagoda in the centre!
Fengyu walked down the road and was stopped at the entrance by two cultivators who asked for his invitation.
After handing it over, they allowed him to enter.
He walked slowly, allowing several cultivators to pass him by while he himself observed the crowd and the buildings to the side.
< Yu’s General Store >
< Fire Hut’s Alchemy Store >
< Wei’s Talisman Store >
These buildings all had plaques on them, displaying a few items on the counters right outside the shop, with only one guard overseeing things.
He was surprised at the lax attitude, but understood it soon. Everyone here was tied to the support and union of this community. If you really were found stealing small items, the loss would be a lot larger than the profit, so no one would do it.
Looking at the shops from the outside, he saw that they actually had a proper array of items, unlike the shops he saw at the eastern gate!
"Fellow daoist, is this your first time attending the neighbourhood gathering?" A young man asked him from inside a shop, it was < Fire Hut’s Alchemy Store >.
"Fellow daoist is right, I am new. May I ask, why are the shops here so much better than those at the eastern road?"
"Haha, fellow daoist, the shops here have all been opened by Foundation Building cultivators. The cultivators managing them are just the managers, not the owners!
Naturally you can always purchase items here, but the quality and price are high, the only good thing being that you don’t need a membership like when purchasing items at the stores in the city, and there’s most of the time no waiting list or long line to purchase items.
Do you wish to purchase any pills? My master’s shop is focused on energy replenishing pills!" the man finally went to advertise his own shop.
"Thank you fellow daoist for this advice. I don’t like owing favours, so I will also give you a tip. Your vitality is weak, especially the vitality in your hands. If you refine pills in this state, you will likely slip or tremble, causing your pill refining to fail. It’s best to have someone massage your hands or have a hand bath, recovering your vitality, before wasting resources when refining pills!" Fengyu gave him some honest advice before he left.
The man looked at Fengyu from a distance for a while, surprised at having been perceived so easily. He had also noticed it and thought of taking a day off from refining pills, but he didn’t realise it was so serious. Thinking of the measures this man told him, he quickly ordered a servant in the shop to arrange for a masseur to visit him and have him treat his hands.
Masseurs are a sub-profession of Spiritual Doctors, focusing only on massages. Such a person earned less and their profession had a weaker lineage, but it was perfectly suited for cultivators to practice it as a secondary job. Many cultivators would learn one or two secondary professions to earn a bit more money for their cultivation.
Fengyu didn’t pay any attention to what was happening behind him. He walked around the shops and saw that most of them didn’t really have what he needed.
Since the day he talked with Shanqing, he also thought of having a cultivation master plan a cultivation route for Zimu, so he didn’t buy anything for now.
Just as he thought there would be nothing to see, at a weapon refining shop, he was surprised to find a small tool suitable for healing -
"Fellow daoist, how much does this set of silver needles cost?" Fengyu asked as he looked at the silver needles, a common tool for acupuncture! With it, learning the technique would be more efficient and the results would be faster. The best was that after getting used to them, he could use them to directly heal people, without having to switch between tools.
And it was also pretty good that he could use it as an offensive weapon in case he needed it!
