Chapter 64: Prelude to Dragon Hunting

Moments later, a holographic magical interface appeared in front of her, showing footage similar to a video camera of a city with black smoke billowing and fire raging across different spots.

And hovering on top of it was the Red Dragon.

"That’s fucking huge," Marcus muttered as he saw it. If he could approximate the size, it would be about five times the size of a wyvern.

The dragon circled above the city, wings cutting through the smoke as flames burst from its mouth, spreading across rooftops and streets below.

Selene kept her hand raised, maintaining the projection.

"This was taken eight hours ago," she said. "Northern district of Felsis. It doesn’t stay in one place for long."

Elaina stepped slightly closer, her eyes fixed on the image.

"...The damage is already this bad..."

Liora lowered her gaze a bit.

"And it’s getting worse," she said quietly.

Kael crossed his arms.

"That’s why we don’t have time to sit around," he added. "We hit it, we kill it, and we end it."

Marcus didn’t respond to that immediately.

His eyes stayed on the dragon.

Watching how it moved.

How it turned mid-air.

How it controlled its descent before releasing fire.

"...Speed?" Marcus asked.

Selene answered.

"Faster than wyverns. Not by a small margin either."

Marcus nodded once.

"And altitude?"

"Variable," she said. "It stays high when unchallenged. Drops when it attacks."

Marcus exhaled slowly.

"So what’s your plan of engagement since you are the one who will assault it on the ground," he asked.

"Selene and I will fire at the Red Dragon using our long-range spell and attacks to get the attention of the Red Dragon. The moment it is close to the ground, that’s where Kael would step in. Liora would be in the backline, casting support spells," Seraphine explained.

Hearing that, Marcus thought it was a good idea, a very traditional strategy. It’s like MMORPG during a raid boss where everyone has a role to fulfill.

"We can do long-range engagement too," Marcus added. "If it’s not enough, I can bring out more."

"That would be appreciated," Seraphine said. "So, for our departure, it’ll take about eight hours to get to the Port of Helmarte and then a day voyage across the Elfa strait."

Marcus narrowed his eyes. "Wait, so it’s just across the strait of the Kingdom of Renshade?"

"Yes it is," Seraphine said.

"How far is that in numbers?" Marcus asked.

Seraphine thought for a moment.

"...From here to Helmarte, around three hundred kilometers by road," she said. "Then across the Elfa Strait, another hundred to one hundred fifty by sea, depending on the route."

Marcus nodded slowly.

So roughly four to five hundred kilometers total. Wait, that’s not even far in modern standards. A Blackhawk helicopter has a range of over 2,200 kilometers. That’s five times that distance.

Marcus leaned back slightly, doing the math in his head.

"...That’s not even a problem," he said.

Kael frowned.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

Marcus glanced at him.

"I mean your route is slow," he said plainly. "Eight hours to the port, then a full day by sea. That’s almost two days before you even reach the target."

Selene lowered her hand slightly, though the projection remained.

"...That’s the fastest conventional route," she said.

Marcus shook his head.

"Not for me."

That made all of them look at him.

Seraphine’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"...Explain."

Marcus tapped the table once.

"I can get us there in under two hours," he said.

Silence.

Kael let out a short laugh.

"...That’s impossible."

Marcus didn’t react to the tone.

"It’s not," he said calmly and stood. "Please, follow me as I will show you our means of transport."

He didn’t wait for a reply.

Marcus turned and walked toward the door.

Elaina followed immediately.

There was a brief pause behind them, then footsteps.

Seraphine moved first.

"Where are we going?" Kael asked from behind.

"You’ll see," Marcus replied.

They walked across the main road, past the training ground, then further out toward the open side of the base.

And then, they saw it.

A wide, clear area marked on the ground.

And at the center, a Black Hawk helicopter.

It sat still, solid, its dark body reflecting the light. The rotor blades were idle, but even without movement, it carried presence.

They stopped.

All of them.

"...What is that?" Liora asked quietly.

Selene’s eyes narrowed slightly, studying it.

"That’s not a carriage," she said.

Kael stepped forward a bit.

"...That thing flies?" he asked.

Marcus stopped a few steps ahead of them and turned.

"Yeah," he said. "That’s exactly what it does."

Seraphine didn’t take her eyes off it.

"...No wings," she noted.

"It doesn’t need them," Marcus replied.

Selene stepped closer, circling slightly to get a better look.

"...What’s generating lift?" she asked. "That rotating structure above?"

Marcus nodded.

"Rotor blades," he said. "They spin fast enough to push air down and lift the whole thing."

Kael frowned.

"...You’re telling me that thing carries people in the air with just that?"

Marcus shrugged.

"More or less."

Liora looked at it again, clearly unsure.

"...Is it stable?"

Marcus smirked faintly.

"Safer than what you’re used to."

That didn’t fully convince her.

Seraphine finally looked at him.

"...And this will take us to Felsis."

Marcus nodded.

"Under two hours."

Selene crossed her arms lightly.

"...And you expect us to just get inside that."

Marcus met her gaze.

"You don’t have to," he said. "You can take the two-day route if you want."

Silence.

Kael clicked his tongue.

"...Tch."

Seraphine looked at her team briefly.

Then back at the helicopter.

"...No," she said. "We’ll use this. The faster we get there, the faster we save the city, and the faster we end the suffering of the people living there."

"Then, if you have some luggages with you, please bring it over as we will depart soon. Just like Miss Seraphine said, it’s best that we move at the soonest time possible."
