My Milf Conqueror System

Chapter 256: The Defection

The pressure cooker finally cracked three days later.

I was in the safehouse with Ethan. The air was dry and cool. It smelled like old coffee, warm electronics, and the faint chemical smell of printer ink. The fluorescent lights overhead buzzed. The sound was constant, low, in the back of my teeth.

The monitors were on. The drone surveillance footage of Han's compound filled the main screen. The image was grayscale and slightly grainy. The warehouse in the northern district looked big and square. The walls were concrete. The gates were steel, closed. The windows were covered with plywood.

On the roof, the guards were moving. Their thermal signatures were orange and yellow against the dark blue of the building. They walked in slow circles. One stopped and rubbed his face. Another shifted his weight. Their movements were tired.

"They missed their weekly payroll yesterday," Nia reported over the comms. Her voice was close in my ear, compressed, with a faint electronic crackle. I could hear her typing under the words. Fast, even keystrokes. "The chatter on their encrypted channels is chaotic. The lieutenants are demanding answers, and Han is refusing to leave his office."

On the second floor, one thermal blob stayed in place. It didn't move. The office.

"A boss who can't pay his men isn't a boss for long," Ethan noted, watching the thermal signatures of the guards pacing the roof. He was leaning against the desk. The wood creaked slightly under his weight. His jacket made a soft _shh_ sound as he shifted.

My burner phone vibrated on the steel table. The vibration was loud. _Bzzzt_. It rattled once against the metal. The screen lit up, pale white. Unknown number.

The table was cold under my forearm.

I picked the phone up. The plastic was smooth and cool. I answered it, keeping the phone away from my ear and letting the silence stretch.

From the speaker came breathing first. Then a rough, hesitant voice spoke in Cantonese.

"Noah Reed,"

The voice was low. There was wind in the background. Or static.

"Who is this?" I asked, my voice flat.

"My name is Chen," the voice said. "I am a lieutenant for the Iron Fists. I control the southern smuggling routes... or what's left of them."

I looked at Ethan. I tapped the speakerphone button. The _click_ was sharp.

"I'm listening, Chen."

The speaker made his voice thinner. More distant.

"Lin is losing his mind," Chen said, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper, as if he were afraid of being overheard. I could hear his breathing. Fast. Uneven. "He's paranoid. He thinks everyone is a spy for the Golden Koi. He executed two of his own men yesterday just for asking about their pay envelopes."

The room was quiet after that. Only the hum of the server rack. The word _executed_ hung in the air.

"Fear makes men dangerous," I said.

"It makes them stupid," Chen corrected bitterly. There was a rough edge to his voice. "We have no weapons, no money, and the police are watching our every move. Lin wants us to launch a suicide attack against the Outer Harbour tomorrow night. He wants to burn the Golden Koi to the ground, even if it costs every man we have."

The AC vent blew cold air across the back of my neck.

"And you don't want to die for a bankrupt boss," I deduced.

"I want to live," Chen said simply. The whisper was gone. His voice sounded tired. "I have forty men who are loyal to me, not to Lin. We want out. But if we try to leave the compound, Lin's loyalists will shoot us in the back."

On the monitor, the map of Lin's territory was open. Red lines. The compound was a gray square in the north.

"What are you asking for, Chen?" I asked.

"Sanctuary," Chen replied. I heard him swallow. "If the Golden Koi guarantees our safety and absorbs my men into your ranks, I will open the rear gates of Lin's compound tonight at 2:00 AM. I will walk away, and I will leave Lin completely exposed."

Ethan was looking at me. His expression didn't change.

If Chen defected with forty men and opened the gates, Lin's remaining loyalists would panic and scatter. The Iron Fists would cease to exist as a cohesive fighting force.

"The Golden Koi honors loyalty," I said, my voice projecting absolute authority. "If you and your men walk out of that compound unarmed, you will have sanctuary in the Outer Harbour. You will be paid your missing wages, and you will be integrated into our security forces that I can promise you."

There was a pause. Only static from the phone.

"Thank you," Chen breathed, the relief palpable in his voice. It came out soft, like air. "2:00 AM. The rear gates."

The line went dead. A small _click_. Then silence.

The phone was still warm in my hand. The screen went dark.

"Don't you think that maybe it's a trap?" Ethan asked, looking at the phone.

The fluorescent light above gave a faint buzz.

"It doesn't matter if it is," I said, grabbing my tactical jacket from the back of the chair. The fabric was heavy. It was cold against my hands at first. "We aren't going to walk into the compound. We're just going to wait outside and watch it fall apart slowly until it is all rubble."

The zipper made a soft _zzzz_ sound as I pulled it up. The jacket smelled faintly of dust.

Outside the safehouse window, the sky was darkening. The city lights were starting to come on. Small points of orange and white in the distance. The air from the AC was cold on my face.

Nia was still typing. The keys made a steady sound. The monitors kept scrolling with data.

2:00 AM was eight hours away. The clock on the wall ticked once.

The room smelled like coffee and metal.
