My Milf Conqueror System

Chapter 251: The Descent

The walk down the Imperial Mountain felt longer than the ascent.

The air was colder now. The mist had thickened while I was in the pavilion and it clung to my suit, beading on the shoulders and sleeves in tiny cold pinpricks. Each breath came out white and thin. It scraped my throat. The sandalwood and jasmine from the courtyard faded behind me, replaced by wet stone, damp earth, and the sharp, green smell of bamboo.

The adrenaline that had kept my mind razor-sharp during the meeting was slowly bleeding away, leaving a cold, heavy exhaustion in its wake. My legs felt it first. The stone steps were uneven under my dress shoes. They were slick with moisture. Each step made a soft, wet _scuff_. My hands were cold. The absence of a weapon still felt wrong, like a missing weight on my hip.

I had walked into the lion's den and survived, but I had walked out with a collar around my neck. The thought sat heavy in my chest. My pulse was slower now. I could hear it.

I passed through the stone archway. The two bronze dragons loomed out of the mist, slick and dark. Water ran in thin lines down their scales and dripped onto the flagstones with a steady _tok, tok_. The metal smelled like rain and old copper.

The Imperial Guards didn't acknowledge my departure. They were still as statues in their charcoal-gray suits. I heard the faint rasp of fabric as I moved past them. Nothing else.

As soon as I crossed the threshold and stepped onto the asphalt of the mountain road, a sharp burst of static hissed in my right ear. It was loud, sudden, and made me blink.

"Noah? Noah, do you copy?" Claire's voice was frantic, bordering on panic. It was tinny, compressed, right inside my skull. Behind her voice I could hear the low hum of the safehouse, keyboards, and someone breathing fast.

The sound was almost too loud after the mountain silence. My ears rang for half a second.

"I'm here, Overwatch," I said, my voice rough. I reached up and adjusted the earpiece. The plastic was cold against my skin. "I'm off the mountain. The signal is clear."

The relief that came back through the line was physical. I heard a collective, heavy sigh.

"You were dark for two hours," Nia said, her fingers flying across a keyboard in the background. The clicking was rapid, sharp. "We couldn't track your vitals, your GPS, nothing. Ethan was five minutes away from mobilizing a strike team to breach the front gates."

The wind moved through the bamboo at the side of the road. It made a soft, dry whisper. My suit was damp and the wind cut through it.

"Call him off," I ordered, continuing my walk down the winding road. The asphalt was wet. My shoes made a soft sound with each step. "The meeting was a negotiation, not an execution. Where is he?"

"He's at the safehouse with Li," Claire reported. Her voice was steadier now. "The parlor is still locked down. The streets are quiet."

The night was dark. The only light came from far below, the neon of the Cotai Strip bleeding up through the fog in smears of pink and gold. The air smelled like rain on hot pavement and the sea.

"Send a car to the base of the Coloane hills," I said. "I need extraction."

Twenty minutes later, a black sedan pulled up to the curb. I heard it before I saw it. The low growl of the engine, the soft hiss of tires on wet asphalt. The headlights cut through the mist and made the raindrops in the air glow.

Ethan was behind the wheel. The interior light came on when the door opened, warm and yellow. It smelled like leather, coffee, and the faint metallic tang of the car's heater. I climbed into the passenger seat. The leather was cold at first, then warmed under me. The heavy doors locked automatically with a solid _thunk_.

Ethan looked at me, his eyes scanning my suit for blood or signs of a struggle. His gaze was quick, practiced. When he found none, he exhaled and put the car in gear. The engine note dropped as we pulled away from the curb.

"You look like you just went ten rounds with a ghost," Ethan muttered, keeping his eyes on the road. The wipers made a soft _shush, shush_ against the windshield.

"I went one round with the Empress," I replied, leaning my head back against the leather headrest. It was cool. "And she doesn't throw punches. She throws ultimatums."

The heater was blowing warm air. It smelled faintly of dust. My hands were starting to thaw.

"What's the play?" Ethan asked.

"She knows we orchestrated the proxy war," I explained, watching the neon lights of the Cotai Strip bleed through the fog in the distance. The lights smeared across the wet glass. "She knows we used Cho, and she knows we absorbed Zhao's territory. She isn't angry. She's impressed. But she views Han and Lin as a liability now."

The car was quiet except for the engine and the wipers. The road curved down, and my stomach dropped slightly with it.

"So she gave us the green light to wipe them out?" Ethan asked, a grim smile touching his lips.

"She gave us a mandate," I corrected. My voice was low. "We have thirty days to completely dismantle the Iron Fists and the Jade Tigers. But we have to do it without firing a shot. No street wars, no explosions, no collateral damage. If we break the rules, she sends the Imperial Shadows to execute everyone at the Golden Koi."

Ethan's smile vanished instantly. I heard him inhale sharply. "A bloodless coup against two entrenched triad bosses? Noah, they have hundreds of loyalists barricaded in their strongholds. How do we dig them out without a fight?"

The car hit a small bump. The suspension made a soft sound. Outside, the mist was thick. It turned the streetlights into pale halos.

"We don't dig them out," I said, my eyes narrowing as the Vanguard tactical programming began to process the new parameters. "We starve them out."

The word _starve_ felt cold in my mouth. The heater kept blowing. Ethan didn't answer right away. The only sound was the tires on wet road and the faint static in the comms.

Below us, the city was getting closer. The air through the cracked window smelled like exhaust and rain. The mountain was behind us now, dark and silent.
