My Milf Conqueror System

Chapter 245: The Aftermath

[Jake’s POV]

The morning sun revealed the true extent of the damage.

It came in through the jagged hole where the front doors used to be. Harsh. White. It cut across the wreckage and made everything look worse.

The ground floor of the Golden Koi was a wreck.

The front doors were gone. Just a frame of twisted metal and shards of glass sticking up like teeth. The mahogany tables were splintered. Oak that had taken three generations to stain, now in pieces. The walls were pockmarked with bullet holes. Little black circles clustered around the pillars and the doorways.

And the floor. The floor was covered in a thick layer of plaster dust and brass casings. It crunched under my boots. It smelled like gunpowder, old blood, and the lemon cleaner the guys were already using.

But the building still stood.

And the territory was still ours.

I walked through the debris with a cup of black coffee in my hand. The ceramic was warm against my palm. The coffee was bitter. I needed it.

Ethan was directing a crew of Golden Koi soldiers. Ten of them. Hauling the ruined furniture out to the alley. Sweeping up the glass with push brooms. The sound of glass scraping on concrete was constant.

They moved with a quiet, focused energy. No talking. No boasting. No "we won" speeches.

They had survived a siege. They had seen men die ten feet from them. The reality of the violence had sobered the new recruits. Their faces were pale under the dust. Their hands shook a little when they picked up shell casings.

Li emerged from the basement stairwell.

She was wearing a simple dark blouse and slacks. No suit. No jewelry. Her hair was down. She looked smaller like that. She surveyed the ruined parlor. Her expression was unreadable. But her eyes moved slowly. Taking in every bullet hole. Every broken table.

"The police cordons are gone," I said, walking over to her. "Cho’s division arrested over forty men last night. They confiscated three light machine guns, a dozen assault rifles, and enough explosives to level a city block. Han and Lin’s forces are decimated."

I kept my voice flat. Report. Not celebration.

Li looked at the bullet holes in the oak pillars. She ran her fingers over one. Plaster came off on her skin.

"They will not recover from this quickly," she said. Her voice was soft. "The loss of manpower and weapons is severe. But the loss of face is worse. The streets know that the Iron Fists and the Jade Tigers combined their strength and failed to breach our doors."

She looked up at me. "They came with a hundred men. And they left in handcuffs."

"The Outer Harbour is secure," I confirmed. "The vendors saw the police roll up the attacking forces. They saw who the cops didn’t touch. They know the Golden Koi has the political pull to protect the district. The collections will double by next week."

That was how it worked. Fear was currency. Last night we printed a lot of it.

"And the cost?" Li asked. She turned to look at me fully now.

"We had five men wounded," I said. "Two with gunshot wounds. Three with shrapnel and broken bones. None fatal. All of them will walk. The choke points held. Ethan managed the second floor perfectly. No one broke."

Li nodded slowly. Her dark eyes searched my face. Looking for something.

"You fought in the dark, Noah," she said. "My men said you moved through the pitch-black parlor and the alleyway as if it were daylight. They said you dismantled the rear assault team with your bare hands."

Rumors already. Fast.

"I had night vision equipment," I said. I kept my tone flat. Dismissive. "Standard tactical gear. It gave us the edge we needed. Anyone could’ve done it with the same tools."

She didn’t press the issue. But I could see the wheels turning in her mind. The calculation. The legend of Noah Reed was growing. Expanding beyond the boundaries of a disgraced soldier. Beyond "Li’s hired gun."

Now it was "the man who beat two triads in the dark."

"The parlor will be closed for repairs for at least a week," Li said. She looked around the ruined room again. "Contractors will be here by noon. But the business on the street continues. I want the collection routes fully staffed by noon. We do not show weakness. Not today."

"Weakness gets you tested," I agreed.

"I’ll coordinate with Ethan," I said.

I left her to inspect the damage. She stayed in the center of the room, just standing there. Letting the men see her. Letting them see she wasn’t afraid.

I walked back toward the counting room. My boots left prints in the dust.

The immediate threat was neutralized. The sirens were gone. The street was quiet except for construction.

But the board had shifted again.

Han and Lin were crippled. Their best men were in jail. Their weapons were in an evidence locker. Zhao was already gone.

The Golden Koi was the undisputed power in the lower districts.

The Four Dragons were effectively broken.

I sat down at the steel table in the counting room. The room was untouched. Steel door. No windows. It smelled like metal and old paper.

I pulled my encrypted phone from my pocket.

"Overwatch," I murmured.

"We’re here, Noah," Claire replied. She sounded tired but alert. "The municipal feeds are quiet. Cho’s raid is dominating the local news cycle. The official narrative is a successful crackdown on gang violence. No mention of the Golden Koi."

"Good," I said. "Keep it that way."

"What about the Imperial Mountain?" I asked.

There was a pause.

"Total silence," Nia said. "No encrypted chatter, no movement on the access roads. No thermal. The Song Dynasty compound is completely locked down. Like they pulled the plug."

"They’re assessing the damage," I said. I leaned back in the chair. The metal was cold through my shirt. "The Empress knows that the balance of power just shifted permanently. She lost three vassals in a month. She won’t ignore this."

I set the phone on the table. Stared at the concrete wall.

The proxy war had served its purpose. The street-level factions were neutralized. The police were happy. The vendors were scared and loyal.

The only player left on the board was the Queen.

And now she knew my name.
