My Milf Conqueror System

Chapter 231: The Shield

[Jake’s POV]

The transition of power in the Outer Harbour was complete.

I could feel it in the way the air sat in the room.

The penthouse was quiet. Not the tense quiet from before. This was a different kind. The quiet that comes after a storm, when the rain has stopped and everything is still dripping.

I sat at the marble dining table in the Golden Koi suite. The marble was cold under my forearms. It leached the heat out of my skin. The latest financial reports from the Jade Palace were spread out in front of me. Pages and pages of them.

The paper was smooth. The ink smelled faintly chemical. Every column of numbers was black and neat.

The laundering operation was running flawlessly.

Vivian Chau was processing our street-level cash and returning it as clean, legitimate casino revenue. Chips. Slots. Baccarat tables. It all came back to us washed. The Golden Koi’s war chest was growing exponentially every day. I could see it. The numbers at the bottom of each page kept climbing.

Li sat across from me.

She wasn’t looking at the reports. She had a local newspaper open. She turned a page. The paper made a soft crinkling sound. It was the only sound in the room besides the AC.

Morning light came through the floor-to-ceiling windows in a wide, gold rectangle. It fell across the table and made the marble glow. It was warm on my arms. Outside, the city was already loud. Distant traffic. A ship horn from the harbor, low and drawn out.

"It’s on the front page," Li said. She slid the paper across the table to me.

The newspaper was cool against my fingers.

The headline was bold. Black ink on white.

*MASSIVE POLICE RAID SEIZES $2M IN CONTRABAND*

*CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT CHO LEADS OPERATION IN NORTHERN DISTRICT*

Below it was a photo. Blurry from the press but clear enough. Flashing blue and red lights cutting through early morning fog. Cops in tactical gear dragging wooden crates out of a warehouse. Men in handcuffs sitting on the curb with their heads down, faces hidden.

The warehouse was in the northern district. Territory controlled by Lin and the Iron Fists.

I could smell the ink from the photo.

"She moves fast," Li noted. A faint smile touched her lips. It didn’t reach her eyes. "Lin will be furious. He lost a major shipment, and he cannot retaliate against the police without drawing the attention of the Empress."

I set the financial reports aside. The stack made a soft slap against the marble.

"Cho is highly motivated," I said. "We cleared her brother’s debt yesterday afternoon. The wire went through at 8:04 AM."

The confirmation was still in my head. Four million HKD. Sent. Received. Cleared.

"She knows we have the resources to destroy her," I continued. "And the capital to reward her. She’ll keep the Iron Fists off balance while we consolidate our hold on the docks."

The AC kicked on above us with a soft click. Cold air drifted down from the vents. It smelled clean. It raised goosebumps on the back of my neck.

Li looked at me. Her dark eyes were steady. There was something in them I hadn’t seen before. Not calculation. Not caution.

Respect. Quiet and profound.

In less than a month, I had taken a dying syndicate, secured its borders, legitimized its finances, and weaponized the local police force against its enemies.

"The Four Dragons are bleeding," Li murmured. "Han and Zhao are losing territory to the police raids, and Lin is losing his smuggling routes. They will realize soon that the Golden Koi is the only faction thriving in this chaos."

"Let them realize it," I said.

Outside the windows, Macau was fully awake now. The Cotai Strip glittered even in daylight. Glass and steel throwing light back at the sky. Cars moved on the roads below like ants. The harbor was busy. Container ships sat heavy in the water. Another horn sounded. Distant.

"They can’t touch us legally," I said. "And they can’t touch us financially. If they want to strike, they’ll have to do it in the shadows."

I stood up. The chair legs made a soft scraping sound against the tile.

I walked over to the panoramic windows. The glass was cool when I got close to it. I could feel the chill through my shirt. Below, the city stretched out like a circuit board. Neon signs already lit even though it was only 10 AM. The water in the harbor was dark green and chopped up by ferries.

"We’ve built the foundation, Li," I said. My voice sounded low in the big room. It echoed a little off the high ceilings. "The Golden Koi is secure. But defense doesn’t win wars. If we want to force the Empress to recognize us as equals, we have to start taking pieces off the board."

I could see our reflections in the glass. Faint. Me in front. Li behind me, hands clasped loosely.

"You want to go on the offensive," Li said. She stood up. Her footsteps were soft on the tile as she came to join me. She stopped a foot away. Close enough that I could smell her soap. Clean. Nothing floral.

"I want to dismantle the Four Dragons from the inside out," I replied. "We use Cho to pressure their legitimate fronts. Audits. Raids. Inspections. Make their businesses expensive to run. And we use Ethan and the Vanguard network to sabotage their illicit operations. Hit their shipments. Hit their money. Hit their people when they’re alone. We make them fight each other for the scraps."

The air between us was still.

Then the mechanical hum vibrated at the base of my skull.

It started low. Like a phone on silent. Then it rose.

*[Ding! Phase 1 Complete: The Foundation.]*

*[Notice: The Golden Koi is now a recognized power in Macau. Political and Financial shields are active.]*

*[New Objective: Initiate the Proxy War. Destabilize the remaining factions of the Four Dragons.]*

The words scrolled across my vision in white and then faded. The hum cut off.

My ears rang for half a second after.

I looked down at Li. She was watching the city, her posture relaxed. Her presence was a steady, grounding force beside me. She wasn’t looking at me. She was looking at the same city I was. At the docks. At the casinos. At all of it.

"Where do we start?" she asked.

Her voice was quiet. But it carried.

"We start with Lin," I said. "He tested our borders at the electronics market. It’s time we tested his."

Li nodded once.

Outside, another ship horn sounded. Long. Final. It rolled across the water and into the city.

The shield was up.

Now it was time to use it.
