My Milf Conqueror System

Chapter 322: The WiFi

The fourth day was lazy. No nightclub, no agenda, no Elena spreadsheet. Just the villa, the pool, and the slow, humid rhythm of a Florida afternoon.

I was in the living room when Nia walked in with her tablet and a frown.

"Jake, I need to show you something."

"We're on vacation, Nia."

"I know. But I connected to the guest WiFi at Mila's yesterday, and..." She pulled up a network diagram. "Look at this."

It was a network topology — nodes, subnets, encryption layers. For a Cuban restaurant in Little Havana.

"This is the restaurant's network?" I asked.

"Guest WiFi. The one they give customers to check Instagram." She zoomed in. "But look at the architecture. Multiple subnets. Enterprise-grade encryption on the internal layer. Segmented VLANs. This isn't a restaurant network, Jake. This is corporate infrastructure. Someone's running serious data through the back end of a place that serves ropa vieja."

She was right. The network was too sophisticated for a neighborhood restaurant. But I was on vacation.

"Maybe they process a lot of online orders," I said.

"At a twelve-table restaurant? This setup could handle a multinational." She paused. "I'm not saying it's anything. I'm saying it's weird."

"Put it away, Nia."

"I know." She closed the tablet. "It's probably nothing."

Claire, who'd been reading on the couch, had been listening. I saw her eyes flick toward Nia, then back to her book. She didn't say anything. But I knew that look — the look of a tactical analyst filing information without acting on it. She'd been doing it since Bucharest — cataloging data points, building patterns, waiting for enough information to form a conclusion. Nia had flagged the WiFi. Claire had heard it. Neither of them was going to do anything about it, because we were on vacation and I'd told everyone to stand down. But the information was filed. It would surface later, the way filed information always does — at the worst possible moment.

Sofia and Victoria had accidentally teamed up to bury me in sand. It started as a joke — Sofia was building a small castle, and Victoria started building a bigger one. Then they realized they were building on opposite sides of me, and the sand piled up around my legs.

"Stop," I said.

"Hold still," Sofia said, patting sand around my knee.

"It's collaborative art," Victoria said, packing sand around my ankle.

"It's assault."

"It's a sand sculpture, and you're the foundation."

For a moment, Sofia and Victoria were cooperating. Sofia patted sand gently, building smooth walls. Victoria aggressively reinforced the structure. They didn't talk much, but there was a rhythm — an unspoken agreement that this was more fun together than apart.

The sculpture collapsed when Ethan stepped on it. Victoria yelled at him for ten minutes. Ethan apologized by buying everyone ice cream.

Song Mei sat under an umbrella, reading about the fall of the Roman Republic. "Song Mei, come swim."

"I don't swim. Empresses don't swim. We observe." She turned a page. "I'm reading about the assassination of Julius Caesar. Consider it professional development."

"Your interests include the assassination of Julius Caesar?"

"My interests include the study of powerful men who were destroyed because they didn't see the knife coming." She looked at me over the book. "Consider it research."

Cassandra was in the shade next to Song Mei, reading her own book. They sat in companionable silence.

Claire was in the water, swimming laps — real, athletic, coordinated laps. She swam the way she did everything tactical: efficient, measured. I watched her cut through the water and thought: She's in her element. She's actually happy.

[Ding! Daily Task Available: Apply sunscreen to at least one Queen.] [Reward: +50 SP] [Notice: Host has been observing the friend for 4.3 minutes. The System recommends looking at one of the Queens instead. They are wearing bikinis. This was the entire point of the vacation.]

I looked at the Queens. The System was right. Sofia needed sunscreen. I applied sunscreen. The System gave me fifty SP. The afternoon continued, warm and slow and genuinely, beautifully uneventful.

Evelyn was sitting under her umbrella, reading her legal thriller, but I noticed she'd shifted position twice in the last hour — each time repositioning herself to keep the villa's front entrance in her peripheral vision. She couldn't help it. Years at the SEC had wired her to treat every environment as a potential crime scene. She'd once told me that the hardest part of being conquered wasn't the surrender — it was learning to stop auditing everything. "I spent fifteen years assuming everyone was guilty until proven innocent," she'd said. "Now I have to assume the beach is just a beach. It's harder than you'd think."

Margaret finally hung up her phone, leaned back in her cabana, and closed her eyes. For thirty seconds, she looked like a woman who had forgotten she was a Senator. Then her phone buzzed again, and she was back — a woman who couldn't escape the job even on a beach in Miami.

That night, the group gathered on the terrace for dinner. Isabella told a story about having a Swiss banker fired for serving coffee in the wrong cup. Victoria countered with beating her cousin at polo. Sofia talked about her first business deal — she'd been twenty-three and closed a real estate acquisition by being so genuinely sharp that the seller dropped the price. Song Mei said nothing, but the corner of her mouth twitched.

Cassandra told a story about getting locked in a library overnight and being so happy she didn't call for help until morning. Everyone laughed. Even Song Mei.

It was the first time I wasn't planning, fighting, conquering, or surviving. I was just there.

[Host Stress Level: 52%. The lowest recorded stress level since System activation. The System recommends: More of this.]

I went to bed happy. In the guest wing, Claire's light was on. She was running a background check on the restaurant's WiFi provider. I knew it. She knew I knew. Neither of us said anything.
