My Milf Conqueror System

Chapter 299: The Breach

I didn't wait for the guards to draw their weapons.

The second Ethan's burst hit my collar, the decision was made. _Hostile moving fast. Aggressive posture. L. backing up._ That meant Song Mei had stepped into Li's space. That meant the Empress was about to put hands on her or worse.

The hallway was a kill box. Four guards. One Shadow. One door. And on the other side of that door, Li was alone.

I pushed off the wall.

The move was sudden and explosive. It shattered the static tension that had been holding the corridor together. I didn't go for my concealed pistol. Gunfire would escalate the situation beyond repair and give Song Mei exactly what she wanted. A body on the floor. A reason to call it an assassination attempt and mobilize the entire municipal police force against the Golden Koi by sunrise.

I needed to breach the room, but I needed to do it with surgical, non-lethal precision. Fast enough to get through, controlled enough not to give them the war they wanted.

The guard closest to the door reacted first. He was good. He drew, but he was too slow. He was expecting me to reach for a weapon. He wasn't expecting me to be inside his guard before his hand cleared leather.

I stepped in, caught his wrist, and applied a brutal, twisting joint-lock. I felt the bones grind and the tendons stretch. The pistol clattered to the floor as he dropped to his knees in agony, a strangled sound caught in his throat that he was too disciplined to let become a scream.

I used his falling body as a shield, pivoting to face the second guard. The man was already drawing. He had half a second on me. I drove the heel of my palm hard into his sternum, right over the heart. The impact knocked the breath from his lungs in a single violent rush and sent him crashing into the wooden paneled wall. The wood cracked behind him and he slid down, gasping.

The third and fourth guards hesitated for a fraction of a second. Their lines of fire were blocked by their incapacitated partners. In a corridor this narrow, with me moving this fast, shooting meant hitting their own men. That hesitation was trained out of most soldiers. These men had it.

It was all the time I needed.

I spun around, planted my boot squarely against the center seam of the heavy oak doors, and kicked with everything I had. Vanguard conditioning. Full body torque from the floor up through the hips.

The heavy iron latch shattered. The sound was like a gunshot in the confined space. The doors burst open, slamming violently against the interior walls of the study with a crack that echoed down the corridor.

I stepped into the room. My eyes instantly assessed the threat.

The study was lined with ancient books. Floor to ceiling shelves of leather and silk spines. The air smelled like old paper and sandalwood. A single, ornate desk lamp illuminated the center of the room, throwing everything else into shadow.

Li was backed against the far wall. Her face was pale. Her hands were clenched into fists at her sides. She wasn't hurt. There were no marks. But she was cornered. Song Mei had her back to the wall.

Empress Song Mei was standing two feet away from her. The Empress didn't have a weapon drawn. She didn't need one. Her posture was rigid. Her dark eyes were burning with a terrifying, absolute fury. She had been leaning in. Pressing.

They both snapped their heads toward the shattered doors.

"I said the Matriarch only," Song Mei hissed. Her voice dropped to a venomous whisper that cut through the room.

The four Imperial Guards scrambled into the doorway behind me. Their weapons were drawn now and leveled at my back. I could feel the pressure of four muzzles on my spine.

The female Shadow stepped in beside them. Her hand was resting on the hilt of her karambit. She wasn't drawing yet. She was watching my neck. Waiting for me to move wrong.

I ignored the guns pointed at my spine. I walked slowly into the center of the study. Three steps. Deliberate. I placed myself directly between the Empress and Li.

"The Matriarch's security detail doesn't wait in the hall when the tone of the conversation changes," I said. My voice was perfectly calm. Projecting an aura of absolute, unyielding control. No rush. No fear.

"You have just signed your own death warrant, Mr. Reed," Song Mei said. Her eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "And you have doomed the Golden Koi. I offered her a choice. Surrender the Jade Palace laundering network to my direct control, or face the full weight of the Imperial Mountain."

"She refused," I deduced. I glanced back at Li.

Li met my gaze. Her chin was held high despite the terror in the room. Her spine was straight. "I told her the Golden Koi does not bow."

I looked back at the Empress.

"You don't have the weight to crush us, Madam Song," I said softly.

"I have an army of Shadows and the entire municipal government at my disposal," Song Mei countered. She gestured to the armed guards behind me without looking. "You have a handful of street thugs and a broken door. You are outmatched."

"I have Julian Croft," I said.

The name dropped into the quiet study like a live grenade.

Song Mei froze. The absolute certainty in her eyes shattered. It was replaced by a sudden, profound shock. She stared at me. Her mind was racing. She was trying to process the impossible connection. Julian Croft was a ghost. A billionaire who didn't exist on paper. And he had no reason to be in a room with a street Matriarch.

"The two-hundred-million-dollar equity injection," I continued. My voice dropped to the smooth, arrogant cadence of the billionaire persona. The one that had closed deals in Singapore and London. "The capital that saved your portfolio manager and accelerated your Cotai Strip developments. It didn't come from Singapore, Madam Song. It came from the Jade Palace."

I took a slow step toward her.

"You don't own the board," I whispered. "I bought it."
