Chapter 133
Margeret had seen everything clearly just now.
Wendy’s hands had been empty a moment ago, yet out of nowhere, a strange object had suddenly appeared.
Wendy really did have a spatial storage.
How else could what just happened be explained?
At Margaret’s words, the others felt a jolt run through them.
A storage space.
It really was a storage space.
If they could get their hands on it... for a brief moment, each of them harbored their own thoughts, a quiet excitement stirring beneath the surface.
Inside the room, separated by a single door, Wendy broke out in a cold sweat.
Wait... how did they know about her storage? When had she exposed herself?
Her body trembled uncontrollably.
Why was everything spiraling into something so bizarre... This wasn’t right. None of this was right.
She had been careful. She had always been careful.
So why... why did they not only know where she lived now, but also about her storage?
Wendy took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.
Outside, the sound of pounding on the door had already begun.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
Again and again.
George and Fiona’s voices filtered through the heavy door, muffled but unmistakable.
"Wendy, open the door. Your father and I won’t hold it against you for taking the supplies. Be good and open up."
Their voices were gentle, affectionate, laced with coaxing persuasion.
If Wendy hadn’t just seen the murderous fury on their faces moments ago, she might have believed them.
She said nothing.
The pounding grew more violent.
The door had been reinforced on Wendy’s orders. It wouldn’t be broken down anytime soon.
A flash of ruthlessness crossed her eyes as she made her decision.
Since they already knew about her storage, she couldn’t leave any survivors.
If word of her storage spread through the Kale family and the Sanders family... Wendy couldn’t even begin to imagine what would happen next.
...She hadn’t wanted to do this. They had forced her hand.
Drawing in another steadying breath, Wendy turned and walked deeper into the room.
In the stairwell, Suzy and Leonard sat on folding stools taken from the storage.
They were positioned on the landing between the thirteenth and fourteenth floors.
Though some distance from the tenth floor, with their keen hearing, they could still catch everything happening below.
And they heard it clearly.
The noise of George and the others battering the door was anything but quiet.
The stairwell echoed with the relentless thudding.
The thirteenth floor remained silent, its residents clearly uninterested in watching the spectacle.
Leonard pulled out some snacks from the storage and handed them to Suzy.
"What do you think Wendy will do?" he asked.
Suzy glanced at him in mild surprise. She hadn’t expected him to be the one enjoying the show.
Taking the snack, she popped it into her mouth and chewed slowly.
"The Kale family is going to be the ones out of luck."
She had already given Leonard a brief rundown of everything that had happened yesterday, so he understood the full picture.
"Why do you think that?" Leonard asked.
Suzy shrugged lightly. "Why wouldn’t I?"
Wendy was the heroine, after all. Fortune itself seemed to favor her.
The Kale family had already started to fall apart the moment they distanced themselves from her. And now they were going head-to-head with her. Wasn’t that just courting death?
Leonard shook his head, unconvinced.
"There are six of them over there. Even if Wendy never steps outside, at the rate they’re smashing the door, it’ll give way sooner or later," he said. "Unless she has a gun."
"If she had a gun, she’d be unstoppable," Suzy said. "She could just step outside and gun them down. It’d be over in seconds."
But did Wendy have one?
"She must have prepared some kind of weapon," Suzy added.
Leonard neither agreed nor disagreed. He simply glanced down the stairwell. "Then let’s see how she handles this."
The moment his words fell, a thunderous crash erupted from below.
And then, a scream tore through the air.
"Ah—!!"
It was Fiona.
The sound was so sharp it felt like it could pierce straight through the eardrum.
But it lasted only a second, cut off abruptly—as if an invisible hand had clamped around her throat.
Then came George’s furious shout, cut short mid-curse. "You little—"
Chaos exploded downstairs.
Tommy’s cries tangled with those of the three from the Sanders family.
And then... silence.
A heavy, suffocating silence. In stark contrast to the violent pounding from moments before.
Suzy and Leonard exchanged a glance.
She could clearly see the cold sweat gathered at Leonard’s temples.
Without a word, Leonard suddenly stood and pulled Suzy quietly up the stairs.
She didn’t resist.
Only after they were safely back inside their apartment did Leonard let out a long breath.
"That was terrifying," he muttered.
He had expected Wendy to deal with them. He just hadn’t expected it to happen so fast.
And he had no idea what method she’d used...
Thinking back to the way the stairwell had fallen abruptly silent, goosebumps prickled across his skin.
The sudden cutoff of those screams had been too strange—so strange it made his scalp tingle.
Leonard decisively dragged Suzy back home.
"We’re not going down there for now," he said.
At a time like this, going downstairs would only risk running into Wendy while she was cleaning up the scene—and that would be even worse.
Suzy hesitated. "What about Thomas?"
Leonard replied, "Wait a second. I’ll send him a message."
He took out his phone and contacted Thomas.
"Oh right," Leonard added, "don’t you have a drone? We can send it over that way."
Suzy thought it over and nodded.
Thomas Kim lived in the building across from theirs. It wasn’t far.
Still, using a drone could attract unwanted attention.
But his condition was worsening.
After a brief discussion, the two of them agreed—using the drone was the best option.
According to Thomas, he had accidentally drunk some of the rainwater outside, which had led to pneumonia.
He had plenty of medicine at home, but none of it seemed to work. Suzy decided to send him antibiotics and some spring water from the storage.
They packed everything up and planned to deploy the drone at night.
Outside, the rain poured endlessly. The sound of it would mask the drone, and flying it after dark would make it less noticeable.
When the time came, Leonard took control of the drone.
Suzy stayed beside him, watching the surveillance feed.
Suddenly, a warning notification popped up on her phone.
Frowning, she opened the surveillance app.
One of the cameras had malfunctioned.
Before she could look closer, the feed flickered back to normal.
A magnified eye suddenly filled the screen. The pupil was pitch black.
At first glance, it nearly scared Suzy out of her wits.
Then the view pulled back.
Vanessa’s delicate face appeared on the screen. She stared straight into the camera—and spoke, "You’re watching this place, aren’t you?"
