Chapter 72: Leaving The City
Adrian went North of the city but he left Fluffy with Sam, he needed information and besides the organisation, the witches had more knowledge than anybody.
Finding a library was not hard and after paying a single elk tree coin, he was led to the basement.
Calling it a basement would not be accurate, the library stretched up, it was larger on the inside than out.
Adrian started searching through the books but he couldn’t find what he was looking for and decided to ask.
" You.. want information about the territory of Gadra around the city?" The librarian asked and Adrain nodded.
She didn’t understand why he would ask that but it wasn’t her business to question his intentions.
She led him to an isle and waved her hand, a book floated to her hand then another and another.
In total she took four books and gave them to him, " The information in those books is updated every hundred years.
Last time it was updated was around 60 years ago so it might not be accurate but you should find a few of them still alive if they did not migrate."
Adrain nodded, this was more than he could ask for, he sat down and started reading the books.
They were quite detailed, they mentioned the abilities, level and even weaknesses of these Gadra.
Adrain noted that a lot of Gadra were hard to kill normally, they had specific weaknesses but outside of those weaknesses.
Killing those things was incredibly hard, in this book there was one called a ghoul, a Gadra born from a human like a Wendigo.
Ghouls were even harder to kill, chopping them off or even burning them would not be enough.
You needed sunlight to kill them, Adrian wondered if his venom would do the trick. Fortunately ghouls were immortal, technically they were dead already so chances were, it was still there.
" Excuse me." He called the librarian who appeared next to him like a shadow, he could not even hear her footsteps.
Then he realised she was gliding a few centimetres above the floor, only her long black dress was dragging on the ground.
" I have a question, if these Gadra are so dangerous, why hasn’t the organisation delt with them? Isn’t that their whole thing?"
The librarian answered, " It’s not so easy, they lack the manpower, so unless that particular Gadra goes out to attack human settlement, they will not interfere."
Adrain frowned, " That makes no sense, this one." He pointed at the picture of the ghoul.
" It clearly stated that it needs to eat human brains to survive, if it has lived for so long, doesn’t that mean that it eat humans regularly?"
" Indeed but by the time they noticed it, it had already reached level 2, that was nearly four hundred years ago.
It does eat humans who wonder near to it’s territory but since it doesn’t go out of it way to attack human settlements, they do not interfere.
The organisation has its own rules, they’re loose but most Espera tend to follow them and unless necessary, they will not take action.
To be honest, they’ve just scared of risking their lives unnecessarily and those strong enough are either too prideful or too busy to deal with a mere level 2 ghoul."
He nodded, that made sense, the strongest Espera in this city was the level 2 branch director.
He certainly wouldn’t risk his life against a ghoul that keeps to its own cave, those above level 2 lived on other cities far away.
They wouldn’t travel this far for a ghoul that barely causes any trouble at all, it was a waste of effort.
He thanked her and continued reading, he specifically searched for those at level 2 and there were two others not far from the ghoul.
After reading all of the four books, he left the library and went back home, tomorrow he would be leaving and needed to prepare.
When he got home, it was still dark and he found Sam sitting in the living room covered in blood.
His wounds had healed but he looked exhausted, he was sure this was not from his previous fight.
He had cleaned himself after that, " What happened?" He asked in a cold voice, he suspected what had happened but waited for him to confirm.
" Vampires, we were ambushed, had Fluffy not been there, we would be dead dude, Louis, she gravely wounded man.
They used silver, her body is not regenerating fast enough." Adrain felt a wave of anger coursing through his veins.
" Lets go ." He took Sam back to Sanchez’s house, they found the others standing around a bed.
Louis lay there with her arm cut off and a huge hole on her chest, Adrain could see a few splinters of silver on her chest.
’ They missed the heart, good.’ Louis was lucky they missed her heart or she would’ve died.
However this still angered Adrain, the vampires have officially started a war with them.
He used telekinesis to remove every piece of silver on her body, the others were surprised.
They thought they had removed every piece of silver but Adrain just found more than ten really small pieces.
After the silver was removed, her body started healing, it was slow but her life was no longer in danger.
Her husband took her hand and Louis opened her eyes, she saw Adrain and sighed. " I’m sorry, my weakness caused you trouble."
" It’s not your fault, don’t worry, those blood suckers will pay." After saying that he left, Fluffy followed him.
" Go back girl, I can’t take you with me anymore." Fluffy looked disappointed and started whimpering.
" Don’t look at me like that, I need you here, you’re the only one strong enough to keep everybody safe while I’m gone."
Fluffy waged her tail and barked at the compliment, he rubbed her head and left, he ran east.
Before long he reached the boundary of the city, the barrier was invisible but he could feel that it was there.
He took a deep breath, Meggie had warned him not to leave the city but he didn’t think he had a choice anymore.
The others know about him and want him dead, if he’s to survive, he’ll need strength, strength he doesn’t have yet.
He took a step and stepped out of the city.
-------------------------------
Inside a cave in a tall mountain surrounded by thick fog, a dark figure shrouded in smoke and ash sat on a stone throne.
Four chains bound each of their limbs and disappeared below the mountain. This figure opened their eyes.
Two burning embers that glowed beneath the ash, " haaaaa" they released smoke from their mouth.
Dozens figures made of smoke appeared, " Fiiiiind iiiiiit." They commanded in a raspy whisper.
The shadowy figure took off and flew out of the cave. " Pity, my power is lacking." The figure whispered in their raspy voice and the chains rattled as if they were being pulled.
He sighed, " So they wake.", a small chip suddenly appeared on one of the chains but the shadowy smoke figure on the throne did not notice.
