Chapter 435 - 355: I Am a Monster (Part 2)

Shen Xin smiled and gave him a thumbs-up.

Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps approached.

The next moment, Yang Zeran burst in first, followed by Gao Kun, Qian Hao, Ding Yuwei, Zhao Tianxing, and the rest—a bustling crowd of seven or eight people, all rushing inside.

"Shen Xin!"

Ding Yuwei cried out, rushing to Shen Xin’s side at once and anxiously helping him remove his scuba gear.

Li Fusen, who had just started to swim over, froze abruptly.

"Li Fusen, don’t move!"

Amid the shouts, handguns were aimed at Li Fusen one by one.

Li Fusen’s eyes widened, his face a mask of shock and disbelief.

"Shen Xin, are you all right?" Gao Kun asked urgently.

Shen Xin waved a hand and pointed under the water.

A colleague from the Lishan Branch immediately stripped off his clothes and dove into the pool.

A moment later, he surfaced with a small sports camera in his hand.

Li Fusen was dumbfounded again.

Gao Kun took the sports camera, his expression turning grave as he glanced at it before handing it to Shen Xin.

"What... what is that?" Li Fusen asked, trying to endure the pain, his eyes filled with extreme panic.

Shen Xin, supported by Ding Yuwei, sat up and glanced at the footage on the sports camera.

’Good. The whole thing was recorded.’

"What do you think? It’s evidence," Shen Xin said, waving it at him.

Gao Kun waved a hand, signaling for his men to bring him ashore.

With a pained grunt, Li Fusen was dragged onto the pool deck. Realization dawned. He twisted his head to glare at Shen Xin and snarled, "You did this on purpose. You knew."

Shen Xin ignored him and stood up with Ding Yuwei’s help.

Gao Kun gestured, and Li Fusen was led away.

Zhao Tianxing stared after him, his tone filled with disbelief. "Damn, that guy is ruthless. How did he dare?"

’Attempting to murder a police officer.’

Yang Zeran’s gaze fell on Yuexiao at the edge of the water. "Shen Xin," he said, "weren’t you afraid the dolphin wouldn’t save you?"

They had all been in the surveillance room.

The lights in the Dolphin Hall weren’t fully on, and Shen Xin and Li Fusen had been fighting in the deep end, which was nearly seven meters deep.

Because of the water’s depth, the cameras couldn’t get a clear view. There was a real risk they wouldn’t have seen Shen Xin drowning.

Even if they had, it would have taken time to run over.

That’s why Shen Xin’s first line of insurance was Yuexiao.

Yuexiao was still staring intently at him.

Shen Xin said, "Come on. All that time we spent bonding these past few days wasn’t for nothing."

’With the rapport I have with Yuexiao, I knew that even if I had really been drowning, he would have definitely pulled me ashore.’

’Dolphins have incredible hearing and use echolocation; he could easily sense my condition.’

’The moment something was wrong with me, he would have bitten Li Fusen to death to save me.’

Even in the worst-case scenario where Yuexiao didn’t save him, at the last second, Shen Xin would have pressed the panic button tucked inside his wetsuit.

Gao Kun and the others would have had enough time to rush in and save him.

So, while it looked dangerous, there wasn’t much actual risk.

"You’re something else." Yang Zeran gave Shen Xin a thumbs-up, echoing Zhao Tianxing’s sentiment. He couldn’t believe Li Fusen had actually made a move.

"But why?"

Yang Zeran looked puzzled. "It happened so fast. Even if he sensed something was off this morning, it’s only been a day. How could he decide to kill you?"

"He acted so rashly, without a proper plan. And he was trying to kill a police officer! He’s really insane."

"Besides, even if you spooked him, it’s been two years. Hua Zi is dead, there’s no evidence, and we couldn’t do anything to him. Why would he do this?"

When Shen Xin sent the message saying he believed Li Fusen would try to murder him, Yang Zeran had wracked his brain but still couldn’t figure out Li Fusen’s motive.

"That’s enough," Ding Yuwei said. Her eyes were fixed on Shen Xin as she asked if he wanted to go to the hospital for a check-up.

Shen Xin waved her off.

At a depth of less than seven meters, even a rapid ascent wouldn’t cause any problems.

He had only choked on a few mouthfuls of water, leaving his throat a little sore, that’s all.

"Captain Gao, we need to search his house," Shen Xin added. "I have a suspicion. He might have left some evidence behind, which is why he was so scared that he took such a desperate gamble."

But even now, like Yang Zeran, Shen Xin still hadn’t fully grasped Li Fusen’s motive for trying to kill him.

Ostensibly, it was to cover up his crime.

But two years had passed. Even if they reenacted the scene and proved Lin Zenghui was drowned by a dolphin, and even though Shen Xin knew he had trained Hua Zi, it was all useless.

There was no evidence.

Shen Xin couldn’t just tell everyone that he had seen a vision of Li Fusen training Hua Zi through another dolphin.

There was absolutely no proof that could convict him.

Unless he himself had left some evidence behind, like a recording of his intimate moments with Hua Zi.

But that didn’t make sense either.

He could have simply gone home and destroyed it.

Without proof, Shen Xin couldn’t get a search warrant.

Gao Kun nodded and told Qian Hao to take some men and go. After they left, he couldn’t help but say, "Honestly, I never expected this case to take such a bizarre turn."

A dolphin attacking its Tamer and drowning Lin Zenghui was already mind-boggling enough.

When Yang Zeran contacted him and said Lin Zenghui had been deliberately murdered by Li Fusen, Gao Kun’s mind had gone completely blank.

Shen Xin nodded.

Before today, Shen Xin never would have dreamed the situation would turn out like this.

And when Li Fusen stayed behind after work and told him he wanted to clean the pool, Shen Xin had been genuinely startled.

After noticing Li Fusen’s strange reaction, Shen Xin had suspected he might destroy evidence or even flee, but he had never imagined the man would try to kill him.

Amid the shock and surprise, Shen Xin had decisively seen an opportunity to convict him, which was why he had orchestrated this whole scene.
