Chapter 184: Who Do You Want to Get Rid Of?
Qiao Xixi glanced at the cub’s vomit and gestured for them not to worry.
"This is a detoxification process. Let him get it all out. He’ll feel better once his stomach is empty."
The cub kept vomiting until he was about to bring up bile, then finally stopped.
"Little one, are you feeling any better?"
The cub weakly lifted his head to look at Qiao Xixi. He was a little scared of her unfamiliar face, but he still nodded. "I think... my tummy doesn’t hurt as much anymore."
"Really? That’s wonderful!" The male Deer Beast stood up excitedly.
"Thank you so much, Qiao Xixi."
With that, he turned and went outside. When he returned, he was holding a leg of beast meat. "Please, accept this."
Qiao Xixi didn’t refuse. She had Feiyan take the leg of meat. "If you know any other cubs with rotten gut disease, you can tell them to come find me. I’m living in the rented stone house at the front of the tribe."
"Okay, okay, I’ll be sure to tell them."
Before leaving, Qiao Xixi left them some more Pulan Grass. For a case as severe as the cub’s, three consecutive days of treatment should be enough for a full recovery.
It was already getting dark when they left Lulu’s house. Worried about leaving the cubs home alone at night, she and Feiyan headed straight back.
Feiyan knocked on the courtyard gate. After a long moment, they heard the PATTER PATTER PATTER of someone running to open it.
"Who is it?"
"Qiao Ang, it’s us."
The gate opened, and Qiao Ang’s little head poked out. "Mother, Father, you’re back."
Qiao Xixi stepped inside and glanced into the main room. "Where are Qiao Lie and the others?"
"They’re all still in the backyard. It looks like Auntie Red Rabbit’s cub next door is sick. We heard her crying, so we’re all curious and peeking over the wall."
Qiao Xixi went to the backyard and immediately saw several cubs perched on top of the wall. Curious, she walked over and had Feiyan lift her up so she could see.
"Qiao Qiao, what are you all looking at?"
"Huh? Mother, look! Auntie Red Rabbit is crying so hard. She’s saying something about not wanting to send her little bunny cub to the back mountain. It’s so sad."
Qiao Xixi craned her neck and saw that it was true. Red Rabbit was inside, crying as she held her cub, while her beastmen mates sighed helplessly.
"Feiyan, you don’t think Red Rabbit’s cub has rotten gut disease too, do you?"
"It’s very likely."
"I’m going to go check."
Qiao Xixi had Feiyan put her down.
"Mother, what’s rotten gut disease?" Seeing Qiao Xixi get down, Qiao Qiao wanted to follow.
"It’s a deadly disease, and it’s contagious. You can’t go. Be good and wait here for Mother to come back."
"Okay."
Qiao Xixi quickly knocked on Red Rabbit’s courtyard gate. It was opened by her Hua Bao beastman mate, Lunan.
"It’s Qiao Xixi," he said.
Qiao Xixi said, "I heard Red Rabbit crying and wanted to ask what happened."
Lunan sighed sorrowfully. "Both of our cubs have rotten gut disease. We were afraid they were in too much pain, so we wanted to send them to the back mountain, but our female can’t bear to."
’So it is,’ Qiao Xixi thought.
"Don’t worry, I can cure this disease. I’ll brew the medicine and bring it over in a little while."
"What? You can cure it?"
Qiao Xixi nodded. Not wanting to waste any time, she went straight home to brew the medicine.
Once the medicine was brewed, Qiao Xixi brought it over to them.
"Here, Red Rabbit. Go ahead and give the medicine to the cubs."
Red Rabbit had great faith in Qiao Xixi’s words. Without any hesitation, she immediately administered the medicine.
The two sick bunny cubs were in better condition than the Deer Beast cub from before. After just one bowl of medicine, their spirits visibly lifted, and they stopped crying about their stomachaches.
"This medicine is miraculous! Xixi, you’re amazing! You’re my goddess!" Red Rabbit stood up and immediately knelt before Qiao Xixi.
Startled, Qiao Xixi quickly helped her up.
"I’m happy I could cure them. I’ll leave the medicinal herbs with you. Just brew them and give the drink to the cubs for three consecutive days."
"Yes, yes."
"Red Rabbit, if you know of any other cubs with this rotten gut disease, tell them I can cure it."
"Don’t worry, Xixi. I’ll definitely tell them."
"Okay, I’ll be heading back then."
As Qiao Xixi was leaving, Red Rabbit’s mates also gave her a good amount of food, all of which Qiao Xixi accepted graciously.
That evening, Jin Ling and the others still hadn’t returned, so Qiao Xixi personally went to the kitchen to cook for the cubs.
Feiyan followed behind Qiao Xixi like a large, wagging tail.
"Xixi, let me do this! Does it need to be chopped up? I can definitely handle it."
"I know how to pan-fry with this oil! Don’t worry, leave it to me!"
Throughout the entire cooking process, Qiao Xixi’s ears were filled with Feiyan’s eager volunteering.
"Hey, I told you to chop the red berries, not mash them into a pulp! And that oil—it’s burning! Quick, turn down the heat..."
Just as Jin Ling walked in, he saw Qiao Xixi collapsed in a chair. He smiled, walked over, and asked softly, "Tired out today?"
Qiao Xixi shifted into his embrace and slumped onto his lap. "Exhausted. Every part of me is tired."
’Feiyan is a kitchen disaster! He’s impossible to manage!’
Jin Ling glanced at the food on the table and chuckled. "I’m not going anywhere tomorrow. I’ll stay home and keep you company."
Qiao Xixi sat bolt upright and planted a kiss on Jin Ling’s cheek. "Is everything taken care of in the inner city? Why didn’t Sunxiao come back with you?"
A flicker of light crossed Jin Ling’s gilded eyes. "He still has things to take care of over there. He’ll be back later."
"Oh, okay then. Let’s eat first."
As night fell, in a spacious courtyard not far from the inner city, several elders of the Divine Leopard Tribe sat around a table.
The one at the head was Cang Ming, an elder from the Golden Eagle Beast Clan with a pair of pitch-black, hawk-like eyes. He held the most prestige among all the elders present.
Cang Ming’s expression was cold and grim, and he remained silent for a long time.
"Cang Ming, if they insist on making that female Wandering Beast the Clan Leader, what do you think we should do?"
A cold, murderous glint flashed in Cang Ming’s eyes. "A dead beast can’t be Clan Leader."
Hearing this, the other elders’ faces changed.
"Elder, she’s a female... Besides, that Heaven-Swallowing Python, Sangze of the Night, and those two high-level males are not to be trifled with..."
Cang Ming shot him a sideways glance. "What are you afraid of? It’s not like I’m asking you to do it yourself. She’s just one little female. If we want to get rid of her, I have plenty of ways."
CREAK...
The tightly shut wooden door was suddenly blown open by a gust of wind, and a sinister chill snaked in through the gap.
The elders felt the chill shoot up from the soles of their feet to the crowns of their heads. They stiffly turned their necks to look at the slowly opening door, their pupils trembling violently.
Sangze was leaning against the doorframe, a smirk playing on his lips as he looked at the elders inside.
"The elders were saying... they want to get rid of someone?"
The elders’ faces instantly turned pale with fright.
"You... How did you get here?"
Sangze extended his foot and gave the door a light kick. With a loud CRASH, it fell to the ground.
The elders looked up and immediately saw a crimson figure standing in the dim courtyard!
