Chapter 121: Battle Of Fairwhite City I
Adal arrived at the Fairwhite City palace, and to no surprise, the guards let him in.
It was wise, after all, if they remembered what happened the last time he came there. It was clear that Adal had some sort of connection with the higher-ups of the kingdom, so giving him any difficulty could turn out badly for them.
When he arrived at the throne room, he found the door open like last time. There, sitting on the throne, was the beautiful queen of the sun elves, Queen Talindra Redwind.
Her brown hair was tied neatly into a bun on top of her head, and her white robes were cut loosely and hung low, revealing so much of her full, tanned breasts that Adal was almost threatened with a nipple.
She was surrounded by numerous armoured guards dressed in brown robes, armoured with golden plating; however, this time, there was no sign of Nimrodel.
Still, the queen asked what business he had there, and Adal explained.
He told her about what Princess Opal had told him. How the Iglantians were happy to be at peace with the sun elves, so long as they were given control of the snow elf lands.
For a while, the queen made Adal wait as she thought.
After roughly five minutes, she came to a decision.
"So be it. I’m sure my husband would be fine with this if it meant that we could avoid battle with the Iglantians. We know how good their magic is, after all."
Adal couldn’t help but smile.
With this, everything would fall into place.
Two kingdoms that he had alliances with would equally rule over the Mainlands, meaning that wherever Adal travelled, he would be at peace. He could open various libraries in each of the kingdoms and establish himself as the greatest librarian in the Mainlands.
For a second, he looked up and closed his eyes.
He had done it, he thought.
Until the silence was disrupted by a crash so loud it rang in his ears.
Suddenly, Adal found himself on the ground as the entire building shook beneath his feet. He heard stones crushing, people screaming, and ferocious winds suddenly blowing into the throne room.
What...
Adal looked up, dazed. It felt like something had hit him in the head.
When he looked to his left, he saw it.
The wall to the left had been completely obliterated, as though it had been struck by a meteor. Since the throne room was the highest in the building, he was given sight of the sky and the rest of the city through the decimated wall.
Adal looked to the right. There, a giant boulder lay, as though flung by some sort of catapult. Beneath it were numerous bodies of the guards who were supposed to be defending the queen. They had been flattened with ease.
Everything became chaotic.
Adal heard screams and the sudden sounds of battle down below in the city. Beyond the destroyed wall, he saw more boulders flying through the sky, crashing into the streets and buildings below. The palace continued to rumble, as though struck by an earthquake.
"H-help!"
Before Adal could process what was going on, he heard a voice cry out from by the boulder.
He used Mana Empowerment to push himself to his feet, gradually making his way over.
There, on the throne, he saw that the queen’s leg had been trapped beneath the boulder. Blood seeped out beneath her from her completely shattered and ruined leg.
Oh Mother...
The queen bit down on her lip to try and stop herself from screaming. When she spotted Adal, tears began to seep from her eyes.
"Help..." she said again. Her voice was losing its strength.
Adal had to think fast. If he allowed the queen to die here, then who knew what would happen, but if he helped her live, he would earn himself favour.
Adal pushed his body up against the boulder and empowered himself with an absurd amount of mana. Then, he pushed with all of his might.
The boulder rolled over slightly, crunching and crushing the bodies beneath it. The queen screamed as the weight was lifted off her leg.
She looked down at her leg and then looked away.
It had been completely ruined. It was nothing but a flattened mess of viscera, bones, and destroyed flesh.
Adal wanted to panic. During his life in Boen, he had been through a lot. However, even he had never experienced such chaos.
The sounds now spreading throughout the city threatened to distract him, but he cleared his mind. He knew that this was most likely a war taking place, but did not know between whom.
He could focus on that later.
For now, he reached into the inside of his trench coat and withdrew a small white book: the Heaven’s Grimoire.
Hurriedly, he flipped the pages, eventually landing on the spell known as Perfect Restoration.
He focused on the spell in a similar way to how he would focus on his system spells. He could feel the spell wanting to be activated, but first, it required mana.
It was a dangerous task, using so much of his mana when battle was around the corner, but he felt he had no choice.
Adal did what needed to be done and gave the required amount of mana to activate the spell.
That was when a golden-white essence flowed from the pages of the book and travelled toward its intended target. The light began to wrap itself around the queen’s broken leg and got to work.
The queen, who was still wincing in pain, looked down at the golden light. The more the light moved, the quieter her groans of pain became.
It felt like her body was being reverted back to the state it was in before the boulder had crashed into her.
A few moments passed, and the light faded away.
When she looked back down at her leg, it was as good as new.
She struggled to believe what she had just seen. Even the greatest of holy mages would struggle to use such magic.
Yet, the librarian had somehow saved her.
