Chapter 98: The Strength Of The Sun
"I-it’s you!"
Olympia could hardly believe her eyes when she saw the sun elf assassin casually leaning up against the wall with a knife in her hand. She was still in shock from having the icicle drawn on her by her lover.
She looked over at the man. He was still staring down at his stump, screaming in agony. Unfortunately, with the way the place was designed, it would take a long while for guards to arrive. More than enough time for the sun elf to finish her job and escape.
"Yes, it’s me," Nimrodel said with a smirk as she looked down at the prince. She tilted her head to the side slightly, then looked back at Olympia.
"You let him fuck you, with a cock like that? Why were you moaning? Surely you did not feel pleasure from such a small thing."
Her thick accent made the mocking words even worse.
Prince Augustus rose to his feet in anger and roared. He summoned a weapon into his hand. It was a longsword made purely from ice, standing equally as tall as him, and with a frosty blade that was reinforced and more dangerous than some of the strongest metals.
However, he now only had a singular arm. Usually, he would wield the weapon in a two-handed grip. When he was charged with the weapon dragging it along the floor behind him, it was clear he was well out of his depth.
"My prince! Don’t do it!" Olympia screamed, as she watched her love prepare to clash with the assassin.
Nimrodel chuckled again. Then, she became a black blur.
In the time that Olympia could blink, Nimrodel was now behind where Augustus stood.
The prince stood there frozen for a few moments. Nothing but the cool winds could be heard from outside.
Then, moments later. The prince’s head fell from his shoulders and landed on the ground with a thud. His body followed afterwards and collapsed lifelessly. The icy sword melted into water that flowed along the ground, eventually arriving at Nimrodel’s bare feet.
The sun elf stepped backwards, so that she was not in the puddle.
"Cold." She shivered.
Olympia remained silent, watching in utter disbelief.
Prince August Frostsword had never been the strongest of the Royal Snow Elf family, but still, he was known for being awakened and nearing level 15.
If this woman was able to defeat him without hardly batting an eye, then how strong could she possibly be?
"My love..." Her voice trailed off as she rose to her feet. She was still naked, but felt no chill, as her body had long since adapted to cold weather.
She shuffled over to the man and kneeled beside his head. Shortly afterwards, she lifted it in her hands and cradled it. Tears flow from her eyes.
She looked over at Nimrodel and asked.
"Why... This isn’t what we agreed. I was to kill the king, not him!"
Nimrodel sheathed her blade and leaned against the wall once again. Everything she did carried such a calm air to it.
The sun elf shrugged her shoulders.
"I already knew that you would fail. Luckily for me, I am an assassin. I was able to follow you to the Outer Realm Gate that you hid in the outskirts of Fairwhite City. It took me straight here, saving me the week-long journey."
Olympia’s tears fell faster. It was because of her inability to sense the assassin, that led to her lover’s death.
It was because of her weakness.
"Do not feel guilty, snow elf. Regardless of your actions, the prince would have died sooner or later. It was simply a matter of when. We sun elves are simply stronger than you. Everybody knows that the deserts are more dangerous than the Icelands, so we are built for combat. It was only a matter of time before we made that clear to your people."
The sun elf’s words were true, whether Olympia wanted to believe them or not.
The two elf races had long since been at war, in order to decide who should earn the title of True Elves. The snow elves lived like nobles, surrounded by beautiful palaces and cities made from ice. Meanwhile, the sun elves lived in deserts, where they constantly faced the threat of Sand Worms, which were one of the most dangerous creatures that roamed the Mainlands.
Secretly, every snow elf knew that the sun elves were their superiors physically. Yet they believed that their comfort would keep them away from everyone having to face that truth.
Olympia slowly placed her head on the floor, and wiped her tears.
"What will happen now?" She asked Nimrodel.
"Now, we will continue with our expansion. After we are finished capturing Fairwhite City, and the rest of the Torn Kingdom, we will send our forces here to claim the throne too."
"But what of the king?" Olympia pointed out. "He is—"
"Dead already." Nimrodel laughed, as she withdrew a handful of rings and amulets from her pockets. "And robbed of his numerous magical artefacts."
Olympia gulped.
Just how strong was Nimrodel, to be able to claim the head of the King, and his primary heir in a matter of minutes?
Of course, there were still two more heirs, but so weak that they would hardly put up any fight when the sun elves arrived.
"By then, we will hold land in both the central, south, and northern parts of the Mainland. We will establish ourselves as the one true kingdom of the Mainlands, demanding that the Dwarves and Orcs join us too. After that... We will finally explore the Outer Lands."
The Outer Lands. Everyone knew this location as an area outside of the Mainland, that no one dared to travel to. Rumours say that beyond, there are hundreds of unknown races that those of the Mainland have hardly ever interacted with.
When Olympia heard the plans of the sun elves, she realised...
The politics of Boen were far too dangerous and complicated for her.
She was more suited towards a simple life. One way from danger and turmoil.
As Nimrodel leapt from the window, leaving her alone in the dead prince’s bedroom she had a thought.
I wonder, what might it be like to work in a library...
