From Age Seventeen, I Became the Head of the Longevity Clan

Chapter 36

Chapter 36: One Favored by Great Fortune

He slowly turned around, walked to the little beggar, and crouched before her.

“You did very well. From now on, if anyone dares bully you, kill them. Understand?”

The little beggar nodded, half-understanding and half-confused.

“What’s your name?”

The little beggar blinked her large eyes and shook her head.

“You don’t have a name?”

She nodded.

“Do you want to come with me?”

The little beggar paused for a moment, then nodded again.

Li Xingge grinned and held out his hand.

The little beggar looked at that pale, spotless hand, then lowered her eyes to look at her own.

She hesitated.

Her hands were dirty. She was afraid of soiling such a clean hand.

But to her surprise, Li Xingge simply took her hand and pulled her up from the ground.

The two walked one after the other, one large and one small.

“How about taking my surname from now on?”

The little girl nodded.

“As for your given name...”

Li Xingge rubbed his chin, and a mischievous thought suddenly rose in his heart.

“How about Li Mochou?”

The little girl looked at the crafty glint in Li Xingge’s eyes and shook her head.

Li Xingge burst out laughing. “Quite clever, aren’t you? In that case... Li Wuyou. How about that? I hope you can live your whole life without sorrow or worry.”

The little girl’s eyes lit up, and she revealed a smile that looked rather ugly in Li Xingge’s eyes.

“It seems you like that name very much. Then from today onward, your name is Li Wuyou.”

“As for me, you can call me... Uncle!”

Li Xingge said with a smile.

“Un... cle.”

Li Wuyou pronounced the two words one by one, her voice rough and awkward.

“Oh? So you’re not a mute after all.”

Li Xingge said teasingly.

Li Wuyou followed behind Li Xingge with her head lowered, while a faint gleam bloomed in her eyes.

“Uncle.”

【Name: Li Wuyou】

【Age: 8】

【Cultivation: None】

【Talent: ???】

【Special Physique: Heavenly Demon Saint Body】

...

It was already too late in the evening, and with a little girl beside him who was both starving and freezing, Li Xingge chose not to continue traveling.

The two arrived outside a fairly large inn in town and stepped inside.

The innkeeper was a plump middle-aged man. He came forward with a smiling face.

Having traveled the world for decades and gained wide experience, the innkeeper could tell at a glance that although the young man before him was not dressed extravagantly, his clothes were made of the finest silk.

And that jade belt at his waist was worth a fortune.

He was surely the young master of some great family.

So his tone became especially respectful.

“Honored guest, are you staying the night or dining?”

Li Xingge smiled faintly, took out a gold ingot from his sleeve, and handed it to the innkeeper.

“Prepare one of your finest rooms, then bring up a table of your house specialties.”

Then he pointed at Li Wuyou, who was clutching the corner of his robe with a timid expression.

“And find an old serving woman. Prepare a clean set of clothes and give this little one a proper wash.”

The innkeeper carefully accepted the gold ingot and felt its heavy weight in his hand.

His tone grew even more respectful. “Please rest assured, honored guest. This humble one will handle everything perfectly.”

Before long, the innkeeper returned with a middle-aged woman from who knew where.

“Young Miss, please come with me. I’ll take you to bathe.”

The middle-aged woman bowed as she spoke.

Yet Li Wuyou quickly hid behind Li Xingge in fear.

Seeing this, Li Xingge felt rather helpless.

He turned around and spoke to little Wuyou in a stern tone, “If you don’t behave, then I won’t bother with you anymore.”

Those words were undoubtedly devastating to her.

Li Wuyou obediently followed the middle-aged woman away.

“Young Master, your private table has already been prepared. Please follow me.”

Led by the innkeeper, Li Xingge went up to the second floor and sat down by a window.

“I’ll go instruct the kitchen to prepare your meal. Please wait a moment, Young Master.”

Li Xingge nodded.

At this hour, it was the height of the dinner rush, and the inn was already completely full. Judging by the way the customers coming and going were dressed, they were all people of considerable status in the area. Commoners could not afford fine silks and satins.

Li Xingge poured himself a full cup of wine, and his thoughts returned to what had happened a short while earlier, when little Wuyou had been bullied by those vicious youths...

At first, he had intended to walk away.

After all, he was hardly some great saint who righted wrongs wherever he found them.

There were far too many injustices in this world.

He could not possibly interfere in all of them.

And yet, a casual glance had utterly shocked him.

The little beggar being bullied by those vicious youths possessed such tremendous fortune that even his soul had trembled.

His clan’s fortune was still only white.

But the little beggar’s fortune, floating above her head, was so red it was turning violet.

How terrifying was that?

Li Xingge guessed that this was most likely the legendary child favored by fortune—the chosen son or daughter of fate.

As for himself, he didn’t count.

He was merely an utterly ordinary cheat-blessed bastard.

Once he realized that the little beggar might actually be one of those legendary children of fortune, Li Xingge immediately changed his mind and stepped in to save her.

If he could gain the friendship of someone favored by fortune, then the return he would receive...

Li Xingge did not even dare imagine it.

And sure enough, after saving Li Wuyou,

the white fortune of the Li Clan had already begun to show the faintest sign of shifting toward green.

A child of fortune truly was terrifying beyond measure!

Even Li Xingge could not help marveling in amazement.

...

A short while later, the middle-aged woman led the freshly washed little Wuyou before Li Xingge.

Now that the grime and disheveled filth had been washed away, little Wuyou appeared slender and delicate, with her dry yellow hair hanging down behind her shoulders.

She wore a light green ru skirt. Though her young face was still sallow and thin, the outline of her features made it clear that with proper care for a period of time, she would grow into a very pretty girl.

“Wuyou, you must be hungry. Eat.”

Li Xingge said with a smile.

The steaming dishes, looking utterly delicious, had already all been served.

Li Wuyou’s eyes were fixed on the dazzling spread of food on the table, and she could not help swallowing.

In her past life, such a scene had been entirely unimaginable.

“What are you staring at? Eat.”

Li Xingge urged.

As he spoke, he picked up a chicken drumstick with his chopsticks and placed it into Li Wuyou’s bowl.

Looking at the drumstick in her bowl, Li Wuyou almost drooled with desire.

She reached out and grabbed straight for it with her hand.

Smack!

Li Wuyou recoiled in pain and looked at Li Xingge with a wronged expression as he withdrew his chopsticks.

“When you eat, you use chopsticks. You don’t grab with your hands. I’ll only teach you this once.”

Li Xingge said flatly, then picked up a slice of meat with his chopsticks and demonstrated it once for her.

Li Wuyou copied him exactly, though her clumsy movements were so awkward that they looked almost adorable.

“Hurry up! Move, all of you! Surround the inn!”

A burst of noisy shouting came from outside the inn.

Dozens of burly men in tight martial clothing, looking fierce and aggressive, surrounded the entire inn until not even a drop of water could leak through.

Li Xingge raised a brow.

The people who had come looking for trouble had arrived.
