Chapter 68 :The Love God’s Whisper (8)
The wind scraped against his cheeks.
Muen leaped down, as though he were voluntarily throwing himself into the monster’s embrace.
Eluka also lit up with delight, extending her hands as if she were a gentle wife welcoming her beloved home in the dead of night.
It would have been better if she had not extended several hundred hands at once.
“Ann!”
Feeling that the timing was about right, Muen suddenly shouted.
And then, steel rang out!
A forest of metallic thorns gleaming with cold light burst from the ground and slammed violently into the monster’s body.
Countless razor-sharp blades interwove and churned, shredding every inch of warped flesh.
The colliding edges trembled and sang against one another, forming a symphony of iron, blood, and death.
It was like a steel war chariot covered in spikes crashing into a mound of raw flesh.
The monster’s misshapen body was instantly ripped open with several savage gashes.
“Ah—”
Eluka screamed.
But there was no pain in her voice.
If anything, it sounded more like excitement.
Twisting the face embedded within that mass of flesh, she looked toward the maid controlling steel in the distance.
“Master, you really did come back?”
“Yes, I came back, Eluka.”
Ann let out a quiet breath.
She folded her hands over her lower abdomen and held her back perfectly straight.
Just like a perfect maid.
She looked straight at Eluka, who not long ago had nearly shattered her mental defenses completely.
She looked at those hundreds of faces howling and declaring their love.
This time, her gaze was steady.
“I came to save you.”
“Hm? It feels like something about you is different, Master. Or is that just my imagination?”
Eluka was puzzled for a moment, then began to giggle.
“Forget it. That doesn’t matter. All I need to know is that you’re my Master.”
“Master, you’ll accept my love, won’t you? After all, you understand me, don’t you?”
“I love you, Master!”
Several hundred faces roared in unison.
The sound waves spread outward, making even the steel tremble.
The warped flesh writhed again, and those hideous wounds healed within only a few breaths.
New flesh spread and grew along the steel like rust, or like colonies of mold.
Once the steel was corroded, it would quickly lose its original properties and crumble into useless dust to scatter on the wind.
Ann’s gaze darkened slightly.
Fresh steel condensed at her side, then once more met the twisted monster head-on.
The monster did not yield either and lunged at her in return.
A new round of battle had begun.
It was like a clash between colossal beasts, a struggle to the death.
On the other side,
Muen ran across a bridge forged from steel, rushing all the way toward the place where Eluka’s head was located.
In front of him, sharp blades spun in circles, mowing down the ever-growing, ever-spreading warped limbs like grass.
But no matter how quickly the blades cut, against that overwhelming and nearly endless mass of proliferating limbs, some would always slip through.
And before such terrifying numbers, even a few that slipped through were enough to suffocate a man.
Limb after limb lunged at Muen from different angles, as though sealing off every possible path of retreat.
Several faces turned toward him with savage grins, as though they could already foresee the moment when fresh flesh would merge into their own.
Love should be shared.
Pain should be too, should it not?
How could only we be turned into this?
“Looks like I’m still being underestimated.”
Muen laughed at himself.
Even though he had been the one to lure the monster out and start the fight, Eluka’s attention was still focused on Ann.
She had only spared a few faces to keep an eye on him.
She clearly did not take him seriously at all.
But was that not a good thing?
No, this was excellent!
Far better than he had ever hoped for.
Sneak into the village quietly; don’t fire the gun.
A strategy he would never even have dared imagine had, in a sense, become possible because of Eluka’s obsession with Ann.
Muen bared his teeth in a silent laugh.
He raised both hands as if gripping something in empty air.
Ann, who had kept a thread of her attention on him all this time, understood at once.
Her thoughts shifted.
And a pair of curved short blades appeared in Muen’s hands.
This was a weapon Muen had arranged in advance with Ann and asked her to forge for him.
He had already realized it back when he used the woodcutting knife.
Compared to the light dagger, which suited a woman’s hands more naturally, he was better suited to wielding a heavier short blade with force.
And the shape of a short blade would not interfere with his Dagger Combat Technique at all!
This was a perfect win-win!
“Take this—Lightning Whirlwind Cleave!”
Muen leaped up, both blades flashing like intertwining shadows as he slashed at the warped limbs stretching toward him.
Blood sprayed everywhere.
The blades Ann had forged were extraordinarily sharp.
The cage formed by countless limbs was sliced open by Muen in an instant.
Fresh limbs immediately surged in to fill the gap.
But it was already too late.
Shadowstep!
The powerful footwork he had learned from the deadly assassin appeared once more.
Muen’s figure became a blur almost invisible to the naked eye as he shot through the opening.
Indeed, just as he had said, these were still the same three tricks he always relied on.
But that did not matter when they were this effective!
Who would not love a Flash with almost no cooldown?
As long as it was not interrupted or disrupted by martial skills or some other method, like what that scar-faced man had done before, this move was unbeatable in terms of agility!
But you’re a grotesque monster corrupted by an evil god.
There is no way you can use martial skills against me, right?
Muen sneered inwardly.
Once a gap had been forced open in the blockade of limbs, nothing could stop his advance anymore.
He pushed forward at high speed and soon reached the monster’s abdomen, where Eluka’s head was embedded.
Just a little more!
Joy flashed through Muen’s eyes.
He only needed about two more Shadowstep bursts to completely reach the area where Eluka’s head was located!
“Just wait, Eluka, let me properly—huh? Huhhhh?!”
His arrogant laughter was abruptly cut off.
A warning flared through him.
Amid that pile of warped limbs, there suddenly appeared an arm that was completely different, like some bizarre mutant standing out in a crowd of normal people.
No, that was wrong. In a pile of grotesque limbs, the true oddity was something normal.
It was a normal arm.
Thick and powerful.
Its muscles were knotted like coiling dragons.
It aimed its palm at Muen, and its five fingers suddenly curled.
As though imitating the claws of some wild beast.
Then in that instant, a thunderous blast erupted from between those fingers!
Muen immediately felt his mind ring.
A terrible shockwave came from nowhere and slammed straight into his chest.
A muffled groan escaped him.
His blood and breath churned violently inside him.
And the Shadowstep he had been about to use was forcibly interrupted!
“What the hell?!”
Muen stopped his retreat, staring at that arm in shock.
A martial skill!
It really was a damned martial skill!
And one even more profound than the scar-faced man’s!
He could accept being silenced and unable to cast it, but how could even Flash be interrupted directly?
Hm? Hm?
What is this, some League of Legends tech support?
Can someone come out and explain the mechanics to me?!
“Woof.”
While Muen’s brain was spiraling off in random directions from the sheer shock, he suddenly heard a familiar bark.
“No way...”
In his stunned gaze,
the thick arm lowered, the broad hand pressed against the writhing flesh, and then pushed up sharply.
A familiar figure that Muen recognized emerged from the flesh, supported by that arm.
In an instant, Muen knew who it was.
It was the man who had been turned into a dog.
Eluka’s husband.
He was completely naked, and those ridiculous “decorations” were still hanging on his body.
But now that he stood in front of Muen, his presence was utterly different from before.
This was not a dog.
This was a savage beast.
