Chapter 144: Traits
"By the way, where are we going, boss?"
Noah asked upon realizing that they had been walking since earlier.
"We're going hunting, of course," Desther stated in a matter-of-fact voice.
Even though his burnt marks were still healing as of this moment, the monsters around here were no longer a threat to him, even if he was injured.
As for the reason why he was so eager to hunt, it was obviously because he needed to buy a new phone, as well as that proper weapon that he had been looking for.
For that, he needed a lot of money.
As a combat professional, the best thing to earn money was obviously to hunt monsters.
Unfortunately, his Space Bag was incinerated by the explosion as well as all of the contents inside it.
There were some materials in there that could fetch a lot of money if sold, and for that he was a little bit unwilling.
It was fortunate that the points and money were connected to their account and not to their phone, else Desther might have already considered himself broke as hell as of this given moment.
Even though he was not that poor yet, he knew that it would only be a matter of time for it to happen because of the things that he wanted to buy later on.
As a self-proclaimed loner and online novel addict, how could he go on a day without holding a phone?
For that, he must work hard to earn as much money as possible and buy a phone as soon as possible.
As a matter of fact, he considered buying a phone more important than buying a weapon.
It was for this reason that he was eager to hunt to earn enough money and buy the things that he wanted.
Victor was, of course, his target and his shortcut to earning a lot of money.
Each monster killed was an instant 15 Awakened Credits after all, added to the fact that he could sell the materials looted from the monster, he would earn more compared to a regular hunt.
The farming area should have already collected some Ravenous Lizard's as well. Although it might not be as numerous as yesterday, their numbers right now should already be a good start.
There were still a few hours left before the sun set; Desther wanted to capitalize on the remaining hours and hunt as much as he could.
Since they were near the main base, though, Desther did not expect too much.
A moment later, the dumping area finally came to view.
As expected, there were some Ravenous Lizards in view, but not as numerous as yesterday.
With a quick count, Desther only counted no more than twenty.
'Better than nothing,' he muttered to himself as he cast Theft Mark and Skill Theft toward them, firing one small Magic Bullet after the other, killing the Ravenous Lizards easily as if they were mere ants.
A batch of notifications flashed across his eyes, earning experience points and Skill Fragments one at a time.
By the fifteenth kill, Desther received a different notification.
[ Skill Fragment: Ravenous Lizard x100 ]
[ Extract Random Skill Now? ]
Desther quickly killed the remaining Ravenous Lizards and ordered Noah to take a photo of all of them and send it to Victor.
Seeing Noah getting busy, Desther did not waste time and extracted a random skill from the Ravenous Lizards.
Although since it was just a skill from a Ravenous Lizard, he did not expect too much from it. As far as he knew, the skills that they possessed were not that numerous, with the most common being their claw attack and swift speed.
Out of the two, he would prefer if he were to obtain an offensive skill.
He already experienced firsthand how a skill could truly enhance one's capability many times over.
Lexie's raw attribute was not as strong as his, yet when she used that lightning blade attack of hers, Desther saw how it managed to inflict damage on the Shadow Monster.
Aside from the weapon, he also plans to search for other ways to obtain a good offensive skill.
A moment later, the screen flashed and was renewed with new information.
Desther hurriedly read the content of the screen, checking what the skill he obtained was.
[You acquired the skill, Bleed Rot! ]
[ Bleed Rot
Grade: E
Details: Causes severe bleeding and intense pain to wounds you inflicted on the enemy. ]
Desther looked at the skill and felt that it was not that bad.
Although it was not a direct offensive skill, it could still inflict additional damage due to its severe bleeding effect.
He wondered how long it would last, and how intense the pain it would cause, though.
Like any other skills, this was something that he would need to try and find out later on.
Looking at the skill, though, Desther was confused, as he did not think that Ravenous Lizards actually had this kind of skill at their disposal. This was never recorded before, so he assumed that it might be something that was not discovered yet.
It was also possible that this skill would only appear from time to time and that not all Ravenous Lizards have this skill.
It was only an E-Grade Skill, though, so he did not put his hopes up too much about this skill.
Anyway, Desther dismissed the screen and shifted his gaze to another one that appeared after he reached 100 Skill Fragments.
[ Reached 100 Skill Fragments with Ravenous Lizards! ]
[ Trait Theft could now be used! ]
[ Trait Theft: Kill 100 Monsters of the same type and obtain their Racial Trait. ]
[ Ravenous Lizard: Trait- Scavenger Body! ]
'A Racial Trait? Is it the same as a passive skill? But unique to their race?'
This was the first time that he had heard of something like this.
From the Ravenous Lizard's trait, Desther could only assume that it was a passive skill unique to their race. He did not know what was the difference between it and a passive skill that was acquired later on, though.
And since the Ravenous Lizard has it, then it could only mean that other monsters have it too.
He actually looked forward to seeing the Racial Traits of other monsters.
'Do humans have a Racial Trait too? I wonder what a human's racial trait is…' the thought crossed his mind but was abandoned a few seconds later.
This was a question he didn't want to tackle as of this moment, knowing that it would involve something he didn't want to think of.
Anyway, the Ravenous Lizard's Scavenger Body had truly intrigued him as well.
If he obtained the Scavenger Body, he wondered if it would be able to affect him, considering that he already has the Supreme Body.
Another question that rose inside his mind was that after he obtained the Scavenger Body, what would be the next progression for his Theft Mark series?
He now has Attribute Theft, Skill Theft, and now a Trait Theft.
One hundred successful steals with the Attribute Theft unlocked Skill Theft. 100 Skill Fragments steals with Skill Theft had unlocked Trait Theft, and now he needed to kill 100 Ravenous Lizards to obtain their Racia Trait.
After killing 100 Ravenous Lizards and obtaining the Scavenger Body, what would be next?
Well, there was only one way to find out.
And that would be to kill 100 more Ravenous Lizards from now on.
Desther looked over and noticed that Noah was already done taking a picture of the Ravenous Lizard's he killed as well.
It had not taken Desther two minutes to kill all of them, so they still have a lot of time to spare and search for other monsters in the area.
"Right, how many Awakened Credits have we earned so far?"
Hearing that, Noah quickly took out his phone and made some calculations.
"Including these twenty-two Ravenous Lizards, you now have a total of 3778 Awakened Credits, boss."
'Three thousand…'
Desther expected it to be high already, but he did not expect that it was already this high.
A few weeks ago, he was extremely eager to complete the mission given by the Title because it would reward him with 2500 Awakened Credits.
And now, he was able to earn more than that just by commissioning the points to other students.
This was definitely a lucrative business, to say the least.
However, he knew that this was not enough. If he wanted to get a good weapon and other items, this amount of money was barely passable.
As a matter of fact, it was highly possible that such an amount was only considered as a daily allowance for the wealthy students.
Desther also did not ignore the fact that Noah had phrased his words in a way that made him the whole owner of this entire business.
Since he was part of this, it should have been obvious that he would earn his own share as well.
However, by phrasing his words that way, it literally meant that he didn't want the share at all and was giving it all to Desther.
Desther could understand his reasoning, though.
One, he really doesn't need this much money since he was already wealthy enough, and two, he might just be feeling grateful for his help during these past few days that they had been together.
For that, Desther did not try to act like a saint and insist against it. He was never that type of person to begin with. He knew for himself that he could be greedy for multiple reasons as well.
"Send them to my account later then. I need them to buy something."
"Got it, boss!"
"By the way, what's your level now?"
