Chapter 59: Frog In The Swamp
The moment it turned its head, its eyes also opened almost at the same time. Not only that, its back, previously smooth and slimy, now had several holes opened on top of it as well.
The scene was so bizarre and disturbing that even Desther, without a trypophobia, felt disgusted at the mere sight of it.
Hence, without waiting for it to make another action, Desther made the bold move to attack it first.
Two Magic Bullets were cast and shot toward it consecutively at extreme speed.
The frog-like creature, upon noticing the threat, immediately let go of its tight hug on the tree’s root. As it did so, its body fell to the muddy water with a dull splash sound before disappearing under it.
The two Magic Bullets completely missed their target. The speed of the frog’s descent was unusual, as if it had practiced that move a thousand times every time a threat emerged.
Desther took a look at where it dropped, and so the bubbles came out of the muddy water.
His senses were acute and enhanced with his high attributes. He did not let his guard down, even when the creature had seemingly escaped into the mud.
Unfamiliar with the environment and the creature, Desther felt as if everything was not as simple as it seems.
Not to mention that, the Theft Mark he used was still within his range, so he was positive that it did not escape.
And indeed he was right.
Because at the next moment, he suddenly saw at another corner some movements that did not exist before.
A capillary wave suddenly surfaced on top of the muddy water, and it was coming toward him quickly.
Desther prepared himself for a countermeasure as the wave moved toward him.
He did not know what kind of attack or action it would make, so he could only prepare in advance.
Just when he thought it would continue toward him, the capillary wave suddenly stopped just a few meters away from him. And in the next moment, the frog-like creature, with a body full of mud, suddenly leapt out of the muddy water like a dolphin.
In mid-air, it twisted its head toward Desther and opened its mouth.
SWIISH!
Without any warning, a spray of water suddenly emits out of it and shoots toward Desther like a bullet.
Seeing that, Desther did not waste any time and immediately leapt to the side to dodge.
Knowing what the highest attribute of the creature was, how could he not prepare for a long-range attack?
Having a higher Intelligence attribute was tantamount to announcing one was a mage class. And most mages were usually long-range attackers.
The moment it leapt out of the water a few meters away from him, Desther was already prepared for any long-range attack it could make.
Looking at the spot that was previously on, he noticed the mark left behind by the water blast released by the frog creature.
It was not as strong as his Magic Bullet, but it would definitely pack a punch if he were hit by it. After all, the tree root where it landed has a chunk of it blasted off. And this was its damage after half of its highest attribute was stolen by Desther.
After the frog creature released the water blast, it immediately dove back down toward the muddy water. The muddy water rippled in waves and became calm soon after.
The creature’s movements did not escape Desther’s eyes.
’So is that its attack pattern?’ He thought to himself as he prepared for its next reappearance.
Confirming his guess, the frog-like creature soon reappeared and leapt off the muddy water. The same as earlier, it shoots another water blast toward Desther once more.
After dodging it, the frog creature did not stay suspended in the air for long and dove back to the muddy water once more.
In such an environment where there was a lot of tree root and muddy water to escape to, a hit-and-run tactic was indeed a good choice for such a creature.
If it were any other Tier 0 Awakened Professional, they might find such a situation very annoying and would feel helpless about it.
Its attack speed was quite swift too; dodging it would be very hard while staying on top of a thick tree root system where you might slip in a moment of carelessness.
Unfortunately for the frog creature, Desther was no ordinary Tier 0 Awakened Professional either.
Confirming his guess and knowing the attack pattern of the monster, Desther did not want to waste time with his monster any longer.
The capillary wave appeared once more, and as the frog-like creature leapt out of the water, Desther immediately tracked its trajectory and targeted the peak with two consecutive Magic Bullets.
This time, the two Magic Bullets struck the frog creature on its stomach successively.
SQUEAKK!
Its loud squeak of pain echoed in the swamp forest. Its body was blasted backward and struck a tree due to the force carried by the Magic Bullet.
Its skin seemed to be tougher than Desther had initially thought.
Two consecutive Magic Bullets were actually unable to pierce through it.
Well, if two was not enough, then how about four?
Following behind, Desther moved forward and cast another two consecutive Magic Bullets.
Before the frog could totally process what was going on, another Magic Bullet struck its stomach. This time, it managed to pierce through successfully as it cried in immense pain.
Not wanting to drag the fight any longer, Desther formed another Magic Bullet and this time aimed at the head of the frog.
Since he was much closer, the degree of damage it received was more pronounced. At the very least, its head bursts like a watermelon as blood and brain matter fly around due to the impact.
The world system appeared in Desther’s vision, confirming the death of the frog creature.
At the same time, Desther felt the presence of the Exit Gate, and now instinctively knew the general direction toward it.
Just as he was about to inspect the notification, Desther suddenly halted in his tracks.
As he turned his head to the side, Desther saw five capillary waves forming at the top of the muddy water.
’’Reinforcements?’
