Rich in the 70s: I Made a Rugged Veteran a Millionaire

Chapter 132: Implementing the Work

Jiang Cheng entered the big courtyard ahead of Shen Que and exchanged a knowing glance with Grandma Shen, then smiled and returned to the room.

Once inside the room, she closed the door and pulled the light cord.

With a click, the light grew several degrees brighter, surprising Jiang Cheng slightly.

So bright?

Jiang Cheng moved her gaze from the light bulb to the square table in the main room.

There was a note held down by a kerosene lamp on top.

Jiang Cheng walked over and picked up the note.

It was Shen Que’s handwriting.

"Jiang Cheng, I’m writing on behalf of Grandma Shen."

Just reading the first sentence made Jiang Cheng want to laugh.

She was one hundred percent certain that the light bulb change was Shen Que’s doing.

Grandma Shen also knew why Shen Que did this, but she still pretended not to know.

Shen Que would solemnly write down a righteous reason.

In short, everyone played their part and was happy in it.

Jiang Cheng continued reading, and sure enough, as she guessed.

Shen Que said he organized the circuit when he got home, and conveniently changed her to a brighter light bulb, emphasizing that it was done with Grandma Shen’s company.

The main point was: he did not invade Jiang Cheng’s private space on his own.

Jiang Cheng folded the note, took out a box from the space, put the note inside, and stored it well.

She had a premonition that her chances with Shen Que were very high.

This man grew on her preferences, acted with propriety, didn’t have the machismo of men nowadays, had personal values, and wouldn’t blindly follow the crowd.

In short, she was really satisfied.

Seems like giving a little sweetness appropriately is necessary.

After putting the box away in the space, Jiang Cheng took out some food from the space and changed it into a white cloth bag bought from the department store, packing it well.

After sorting everything, Jiang Cheng returned to the room to continue translating.

At ten-thirty in the evening, the door was knocked on precisely.

Only then did Jiang Cheng realize she had forgotten to tell Grandma Shen about not having a midnight snack.

She got up to open the door, and Shen Que stood outside with a bowl of noodles.

"Hungry?"

"Not hungry."

Shen Que made a sound.

Jiang Cheng directly took the bowl from him and said, "Go get a small bowl, I ate late at the food factory today, I’ll just have some soup."

"Oh—okay!"

Shen Que obediently went to get another bowl.

After returning, the two of them squatted at the doorway; Jiang Cheng took a bowl of noodle soup, and Shen Que had a bowl of noodles.

"Shen Que, thank you."

Shen Que shook his head repeatedly, wanting to say he enjoyed doing it, but feared Jiang Cheng would think him presumptuous.

"Goodnight."

"Ah—goodnight!"

Shen Que hurriedly said goodnight, watching the door close in front of him by Jiang Cheng.

In the darkness, he smiled foolishly and carried the noodles back to the next room, finishing a bowl in no time.

After finishing the noodles, Shen Que washed the bowl clean and returned to his room to read by the kerosene lamp’s light.

At eleven-thirty, the faint light outside the window extinguished; Shen Que knew this meant Jiang Cheng was preparing for bed.

He also simply extinguished the lamp, getting ready to rest.

Just about to lie down, his ears keenly heard the sound of a door opening, from next door.

Shen Que flipped out of bed and quietly exited the room, spotting a flashlight beam.

He quickly opened the door silently, and outside, Jiang Cheng looked a bit embarrassed at Shen Que.

Jiang Cheng nodded at Shen Que and continued walking.

Shen Que followed, whispering, "I’m behind you, shout loudly if something happens."

Jiang Cheng felt briefly awkward.

She knew Shen Que meant well.

Indeed, going to the toilet late at night was somewhat challenging.

"Alright, stay a bit further."

Jiang Cheng really didn’t want Shen Que to hear her sounds in the restroom.

Shen Que agreed softly, soon hiding in the darkness.

If it weren’t for their conversation moments ago, Jiang Cheng would have thought she was dreaming.

Though not much, knowing Shen Que was behind her did bring about a slight increase in safety, about 0.2.

Though she couldn’t increase it too much, as the electric baton in her space had other ideas.

Jiang Cheng walked to the public toilet at Alley Four-Five, lighting the way with a flashlight.

Shen Que stayed outside, ensuring he could hear Jiang Cheng if she shouted, yet still keeping her from feeling too awkward.

Minutes later, Jiang Cheng stepped out, and after a few flashlight signals, Shen Que emerged into view.

"What about we—"

Before saying "go", Jiang Cheng vigorously pushed Shen Que.

Shen Que retreated a few steps, again hiding in the darkness.

Footsteps approaching from afar grew closer.

"Jiang Cheng, you heading to the toilet too!"

"Aunt Li."

Jiang Cheng called out to Aunt Li, sparing a guilty glance at where Shen Que was hiding.

Why did she feel as if they were sneaking around?

Jiang Cheng waited for Aunt Li, and together they returned, guided by the flashlight’s glow.

Start to finish, no one knew Shen Que had accompanied them on a trip.

Next morning, Shen Que continued his exercise routine, while Jiang Cheng kept to her schedule inside.

They ate breakfast together, and afterwards, Jiang Cheng took Shen Xing and Shen Yue out, as she needed to translate at the food factory’s production line.

After the three left, Shen Que also grabbed his things, getting ready to depart.

Grandma Shen casually asked, "Where are you off to?"

"I’m heading to work."

Grandma Shen paused momentarily, stepping forward and asking, "You have a job?"

Shen Que replied confusedly, "Isn’t it normal for me to have a job?"

Knowing Shen Que well, Grandma Shen jokingly smacked him.

"Stop joking! What job?"

Shen Que glanced outside, whispering near Grandma Shen’s ear, "Mechanical factory."

Grandma Shen’s eyes widened, casting a glance toward the Lin Family.

"Better than Lin Chengyuan?"

Shen Que’s expression said every bit that needn’t be asked, "Of course!"

Grandma Shen beamed joyfully, smacking Shen Que even harder.

"Good lad! Off you go! Quickly!"

Grandma Shen was delighted, positively delighted.

And with that, Shen Que was chased off by Grandma Shen.

Food factory.

Jiang Cheng was translating in the workshop.

The workshop housed several of the best skilled workers and masters at that moment.

Whenever Jiang Cheng translated a section or handled an important operation, she consulted the workers and masters whether it fit the reality.

Working alongside the workers and comparing with the specific structure of the present production line, Jiang Cheng translated bit by bit.

Director Lu stood by the door, seeing it all and feeling touched inside.

Translations before never involved such effort!

Others translated simply into Hua Xia language and called it done.

Jiang Cheng was uniquely concerned whether they could understand, and how to combine it with practical applications.

This approach was undoubtedly slower, extending Jiang Cheng’s work hours, but she enjoyed it more than anyone present.

"Director—"

Director Lu frowned, discontented by the interruption, and turned back.

"What’s up! Keep quiet and don’t disturb their thoughts."

Director Lu quietly stepped back, pulling the messenger along too.

The messenger nodded, carefully following Director Lu out of the production workshop.

"Director, someone from the mechanical factory is here, demanding Mr. Jiang to visit their factory!"

"What nonsense!"

Director Lu shouted loudly in disbelief, causing the messenger to step back two paces and gesturing to the workshop in reminder, "Lower your voice, lower your voice."

"Lower what voice! Dammit, they’re audacious enough to come recruiting directly!"
