Chapter 121: Moving Next Door
Jiang Cheng didn’t politely decline, she graciously accepted the bonus from the furniture factory.
After chatting leisurely with the factory manager in the office for a while, she finally left the furniture factory.
On her way out, Jiang Cheng bought wash stands, cabinets, wardrobes, and small bedside tables from the factory’s warehouse.
After coming out of the warehouse, Jiang Cheng took out two pieces of paper from her pocket and handed them to Manager Mu, who had been accompanying her.
"Manager Mu, housing is currently a problem for everyone. Many households have several generations squeezed together, and space is limited."
Manager Mu listened seriously, although he still didn’t understand the reason behind Jiang Cheng’s words.
Was she asking him to help allocate housing?
It wasn’t out of the question. As long as Jiang Cheng joined the furniture factory, he would certainly make an effort for her.
"So why don’t you take a look at this blueprint? It might help boost the sales of the furniture factory."
Manager Mu finally understood what Jiang Cheng meant.
He took the blueprint and unfolded it.
The blueprint was clear, simple, and straightforward, and Manager Mu understood it immediately.
He was surprised because he understood it so well.
"This—you’re giving it to me? Just like that?"
Jiang Cheng nodded calmly and smiled, "Of course, today you’ve been running around to help me. I’m very grateful, but I’ll have to trouble you to lend me a car later, as I can’t take it back myself."
Manager Mu still couldn’t believe it.
"Jiang Cheng, do you know what this blueprint represents?"
"Isn’t this something that can be offset by lending me a vehicle?"
"No, I must give you a bonus."
Manager Mu, being decisive, wanted to handle it right away.
Jiang Cheng stopped him.
"Manager Mu, I only designed a folding table. I’m not particularly knowledgeable, but you could have a carpenter look at it. Foldable beds and chairs can be made, right?"
"Regarding the bonus, if the products really sell well, can you consider it then?"
After Jiang Cheng spoke, Manager Mu was so touched he almost cried.
"Mr. Jiang, you are remarkable!"
"Really, you are truly dedicated to contributing to the country’s development!"
Jiang Cheng nodded without a trace of modesty.
"You’re absolutely right."
The two exchanged a hearty laugh.
Manager Mu personally arranged for a truck to take Jiang Cheng home.
Before getting in the vehicle, Jiang Cheng said to Manager Mu, "I’ll trouble you tomorrow."
"It’s nothing! Just wait and see!"
Manager Mu agreed readily, and Jiang Cheng got into the truck with ease.
The driver was still Master Li, whom she met last time in the provincial city.
In the vehicle, Jiang Cheng chatted perfectly with Master Li, making him feel happy and warm.
When the truck arrived at the four-five alley, Master Li got out to help move the furniture.
Generally, drivers are experts and don’t usually do such heavy tasks.
But Master Li worked up a sweat without wanting to rest.
Fortunately, Jiang Cheng had really good rapport with people. Almost everyone in the compound who was home came out.
With everyone lending a hand, everything was moved in one go.
Jiang Cheng was the first to see Master Li off, and before he got into the car, she pushed four large apples into his hands without allowing him to refuse.
"Thank you for your hard work. If I need something next time, don’t find me bothersome!"
"Of course you must find me! It’ll be handled flawlessly for you."
Master Li happily started the engine and left.
Helping Jiang Cheng was the manager’s request; he had to come, whether he wanted to or not.
But Jiang Cheng could turn this into something Master Li was willing to do on his own.
After seeing Master Li off, Jiang Cheng returned to the compound and thanked everyone who helped again.
This time, however, she didn’t give away anything.
After saying her thanks, Jiang Cheng turned to Grandma Shen, who had been watching her door, and walked over with a smile.
"Whose grandma looks so spirited here!"
Grandma Shen rolled her eyes at Jiang Cheng but then spread her arms and asked, "Does it fit well?"
"Absolutely fits! Looks absolutely beautiful, not a problem for someone ten years younger."
Jiang Cheng complimented Grandma Shen on her new clothing.
In the end, Grandma Shen couldn’t take any more compliments and invited Jiang Cheng into her newly rented room.
Inside, Grandma Shen took a look outside.
"If it weren’t for Mrs. Lin showing off her new clothes, who would want to anger her!"
Jiang Cheng gave a thumbs up and said, "Exactly, we don’t care about them."
"However, you should wear the clothes you bought. They just look decent at first, but once you put them on, they definitely look better than before!"
"They say clothes make the person, but I think you make the clothes."
Grandma Shen was giddy from Jiang Cheng’s compliments.
"Really look good?"
"Of course! You have to trust my eye."
Grandma Shen smoothed the wrinkles with her hands, took a glance front and back, and said, "Alright! I’ll wear them then!"
Jiang Cheng smiled and said, "Wear them!"
The elder and the younger began tidying up the room.
When the furniture was moved in, it was already positioned properly.
Grandma Shen wiped it twice with a cloth, and it was almost done.
Originally, Jiang Cheng had planned to go to the textile factory to fetch curtains and bedding fabric, but because of Zhou Zhennan, it hadn’t been accomplished.
But it’s okay; good things are worth waiting for.
Jiang Cheng first brought over the bedding she used at the Shen Family.
Finally, it was time for the books.
Only after moving did she realize the surprise of the move.
Besides the translation assignments from Xinhua Bookstore, Jiang Cheng had many of her own books.
Teacher Lü gave her many, and Elder Xu from Beijing had mailed her lots of materials and books.
Along with the books she previously found in the junkyard, it took more than twenty trips in total to move them all.
All the books were placed on the shelf by the wall.
Grandma Shen looked at the fully packed shelf and exclaimed.
"The shelf is full."
Jiang Cheng echoed.
"It’s okay, there is a new shelf."
Grandma Shen naturally took Jiang Cheng’s hand and said, "Don’t overwork yourself."
"I won’t! I love reading, and it teaches me so much."
Jiang Cheng naturally hugged Grandma Shen’s arm and affectionately asked, "Grandma Shen, what are we having for dinner?"
Grandma Shen pretended to dislike and said, "Always thinking about food."
"Who told you your cooking is so good."
Hearing this, Grandma Shen confidently said, "Although you’re flattering me, there’s some truth in what you say."
After speaking, Grandma Shen put her hands behind her back and walked out.
"You sort things out yourself, I’m going to cook."
Jiang Cheng responded with a smile and continued organizing the small miscellaneous items in the room.
In the evening, Shen Xing returned alone.
Shen Yue had been sent to art class by him.
After class, Grandma Zhao would bring Shen Yue home.
But every time, Grandma Zhao would stop at the alley entrance, watch Shen Yue enter the compound, and then leave, never coming in.
Today, when Shen Yue was brought back, Jiang Cheng was waiting at the alley entrance.
"Hello, Teacher Zhao."
Grandma Zhao acknowledged with a nod and left without much conversation.
Jiang Cheng didn’t insist on keeping her, just said, "Goodbye, Teacher Zhao."
Shen Yue followed, saying, "Goodbye."
"Sister, the teacher doesn’t like crowds."
"Yes, I got it."
Jiang Cheng held Shen Yue’s hand as they went home, and the four of them had dinner together.
After dinner, Shen Xing and Shen Yue checked next door, reluctantly coming back.
Though it was just next door, it somehow felt a little farther.
Shen Xing: I wish Sister could stay forever.
Shen Yue: Why couldn’t big brother move out instead??
