Chapter 1715 - 1714: Attending the Banquet
Ling Feng was taken aback, then asked, "The President? Wants to meet me?"
"Yes, the President has prepared a banquet at the Summer Palace and specially invited Mr. Ling to attend!" the man in black said.
"Why?"
Ling Feng was a bit puzzled. He had quietly come to Washington D.C., intending to go where the President was vacationing, but he never thought that the President would know he was here!
The man in black smiled, "Mr. Ling will naturally know once you go. The President was afraid you’d overthink, so he specially instructed us. He wants to make friends with you!"
"Is that so?"
Ling Feng felt relieved, turning to see Catherine’s family standing at the door, all looking a bit stunned, especially Scott, who was now wide-eyed and dumbfounded!
So Ling Feng looked at him and said, "Kid, you kept saying I was America’s enemy, and now your President has sent people to find me. What do you have to say?"
Scott: "....."
Ling Feng wasn’t satisfied yet and continued, "I’ve become friends with him. Are you going to consider the President your enemy as well? If so, that fits with your previous stance. But if you change your stance just because of the President’s identity, it shows you’re just a smooth-talking bandit, nothing more!"
Being retorted like that, Scott’s face turned red and then white, back and forth, quite a sight!
Ling Feng ignored him, turned to Catherine, and said, "I’m leaving!"
"You, be careful," Catherine said worriedly.
"Don’t worry, it’ll be fine!"
Ling Feng smiled and then said, "See you tonight at the hotel. Apologize to your parents for me!"
After speaking, he turned and left, getting into the car with several men in black.
Catherine’s family stood at the door for quite a while, in a daze. Only when the car was out of sight did Catherine’s father say to Scott, "Come to the study with me now!"
He then walked back inside with a stern face.
Scott was a bit confused and looked to his sister for help.
Catherine sighed, "Brother, you need to really think about what’s going on with you now!"
After saying that, she also turned and left, leaving Scott behind.
Ling Feng sat in the car, checked the time, and then asked, "When does the banquet start?"
"Seven o’clock tonight," the man in black in the front passenger seat said.
"It’s only five now. Should I go back and change my clothes first? Otherwise, meeting the President like this, isn’t it a bit informal?" Ling Feng asked.
The man in black nodded, "Sure, we’ll take you back to the hotel!"
Returning to the hotel room and changing clothes, Ling Feng kept pondering one question: Why does the President of America want to see him?
After thinking it over, there were only two possible answers: something concerning the Superpower Users Conference or the Crystal Skull.
The biggest possibility was the former. If it were about the Crystal Skull, Rick would likely know in advance and inform him.
The time reached past six in the evening; Ling Feng went downstairs and got into the car that had picked him up earlier.
The car then departed, heading straight to the place where the banquet was being held.
As soon as they set off, the Secret Service agent in the front passenger seat told Ling Feng, "Mr. Ling, there will be a dozen guests attending the banquet tonight. The President will speak with everyone in turn, and you’ll have five minutes."
"Oh, it’s my first time conversing with such an important figure. I didn’t know there was a time limit," Ling Feng said with a wry smile.
"It’s okay, I’ll remind you then!" the man said.
Ling Feng thanked him and said no more.
The car left the city and entered a dense forest. After several twists and turns, they reached a military-controlled area.
After passing security checks, the car went through the gate and into a massive estate.
Although the sun had not set yet, a brightly illuminated area appeared in the distance where the banquet was to be held.
Ling Feng habitually swept the area with his Divine Sense, quickly capturing the scene in his mind.
There weren’t many guests here, but there were quite a few armed agents.
There were also hidden single-soldier bunkers in the surrounding woods, disguised as bushes, equipped with high-tech devices to monitor the environment. If anyone or anything intruded, they would detect it immediately.
A seemingly peaceful banquet, yet heavily guarded. Ling Feng thought to himself that the President was indeed quite afraid of dying!
Along the way, he used his Divine Sense to probe into the building, found the location of the basement, and discovered a massive safe.
However, this time the safe was closed, and he couldn’t see what was inside.
Regardless, Ling Feng smirked, thinking he was considering asking Rick for the layout here, but now he had the chance to come personally, saving a lot of trouble!
The car stopped, and Ling Feng had already grasped the situation clearly. He then followed the Secret Service staff member out of the car.
The banquet venue was filled with unfamiliar faces. An elderly white-haired man was talking with someone, none other than the main character of the banquet, America’s President, Petto.
Ling Feng was observing him when a car drove in and parked.
Then, people got out of it, and one of them saw Ling Feng and was momentarily stunned!
The newcomer was actually a key member of the Roth Family, Jack Ross!
Ling Feng hadn’t noticed him yet; his gaze was still fixed on Petto. Then he heard a rather unfriendly voice beside him, "Mr. Ling, why are you here?"
Turning around, he found it was Jack Ross. Ling Feng was taken aback, "Oh, you are here too?"
"My father is an old friend of Mr. Petto. You haven’t answered me; why are you here?" Jack Ross asked, somewhat displeased.
Ling Feng smiled, "An old friend, huh? I’m about to become an old friend of Mr. Petto too!"
"You!"
Jack Ross wasn’t stupid. He could clearly hear the undertone of Ling Feng’s words taking advantage of him, which made him somewhat annoyed!
But Ling Feng just smiled slightly, changing the topic, "I didn’t expect America to be so small. I can even run into Mr. Jack here. Isn’t this fate?"
"I’d rather not see you!" Jack Ross said.
"Don’t be like that. Although I didn’t agree to join your family, you don’t have to treat me this way, do you?" Ling Feng asked with a smile.
Jack Ross looked at him, "Ling Feng, are you genuinely unaware or just pretending to be confused?"
Ling Feng looked at him, somewhat puzzled, "What do you mean? Is Mr. Jack speaking in riddles with me?"
"No."
Jack Ross had grievances he couldn’t express. Without evidence, he couldn’t prove it was Ling Feng who did it. So, even if he suspected him, he couldn’t say much!
Because if it wasn’t Ling Feng, he would only expose some of his secrets, so he had to endure it.
Ling Feng saw through his thoughts and thus asked with a smile, "Mr. Jack, have these past few days been pleasant?"
Jack Ross: "....."
