The Greatest Village Doctor In The World

Chapter 1088: Righting Wrongs Along the Way

Ling Feng glanced at the two men, noting their dark skin and bulky finger joints, suggesting they were likely involved in manual labor.

He didn’t pay much attention, brushed past them, and left the hostel.

At Hongqi Town, one could almost see the boundaries with a glance. Having walked just a few steps, Ling Feng spotted a small diner and stepped inside.

There wasn’t a single customer in the shop. A woman in her thirties hurried over from the back when she saw Ling Feng come in: "Would you like something to eat?"

"Yes, do you have a menu?" Ling Feng chose a table and sat down to ask.

"It’s all on the wall," the woman replied.

Turning his head to look, Ling Feng saw several A4 papers plastered on the wall, listing basic home-cooked dishes.

Ling Feng thought it was pretty simple and after a quick glance, he ordered two dishes at random.

"Just a moment, please!"

The woman nodded her head and turned to enter the kitchen.

After a while, steaming dishes were served. Ling Feng tried a bite and found the flavor to be quite decent.

The woman didn’t go back but sat down by the door, staring blankly outside.

After eating a few bites, Ling Feng then asked, "Big sister, is there accommodation further into the mountains?"

"No, there are no roads like this a few kilometers ahead, just concrete paths laid by the villages, and not many villages at that!" the woman turned around and said.

"Oh."

Ling Feng nodded and didn’t ask further.

But the woman seemed a bit curious and looked at him before asking: "Your accent doesn’t sound local?"

"Yeah, I’m from out of town," Ling Feng nodded and said.

"So what do you do? Collect mountain goods?" she asked.

"No, I’m here for an adventure!" Ling Feng said with a smile.

"Adventure?"

The woman was startled and then said, "With these poor and harsh mountains, what sort of adventure is there?"

"The deeper into the mountains, the easier it is to find treasures, right? Big sister, are there any local legends about the mountains here?" Ling Feng asked.

"Legends are all made up, fabricated by people in the past!" the woman said.

"It doesn’t matter, folk tales are like that, right? Demons and devils, extraordinary people and events," Ling Feng said.

"Hmm, I did hear quite a few when I was a child, but I don’t remember them anymore," the woman said indifferently.

Seeing that she didn’t seem to be in the mood to chat, Ling Feng just smiled and didn’t say anything more.

After dinner, he got up to pay, but just then, a burly man suddenly burst through the door of the diner.

Seeing this, the woman immediately turned and walked towards the back, but the burly man grabbed her: "Stop, where do you think you’re going?"

"Hu Er, let me go!"

The woman struggled to break free.

However, Hu Er was strong and didn’t let go, so she couldn’t break free at all.

When Hu Er noticed Ling Feng looking at them, he raised his chin: "What are you looking at? Mind your own business!"

"I didn’t want to interfere, but isn’t it inappropriate for you to treat a woman like this?" Ling Feng asked.

"She’s my wife, it’s none of your business even if I hit her. Just scram!" Hu Er said angrily.

Ling Feng frowned; how could this man be so rude?

At this point, the woman said, "Let go of me, who’s your wife? I’ve already divorced you!"

"Even if we’re divorced, you’re still my wife. Give me the money now!" Hu Er shouted.

"I don’t have any money, we haven’t had a single customer all day, where would I get money for you!" the woman yelled.

Hu Er pointed at Ling Feng: "Hasn’t this kid paid for his meal? Hand it over!"

"Indeed, I haven’t paid yet!"

Ling Feng made a comment, then looked at him: "But seeing you like this, it’s better not to give it to you first!"

"Kid, where are you from? Do you know who I, Hu Er, am?"

Seeing that his tone was unfriendly, Hu Er let go of the woman’s hand and walked towards Ling Feng.

"Hu Er, don’t mess around!" The woman quickly lunged forward and grabbed him.

As a result, Hu Er shook her off, causing the woman to stumble and nearly fall to the ground.

Ling Feng’s frown deepened: "Hitting a woman?"

"I’ll hit whoever I want, pay up quickly, or I’ll smack you too!" Hu Er glared as he spoke.

"Sorry, my meal money is for the owner of the eatery, clearly not for you!" Ling Feng scoffed.

"You’re asking for it!"

Upon hearing this, Hu Er swung his palm and aimed a slap at Ling Feng!

But with a thud, his wrist was grabbed by Ling Feng, and then Hu Er’s face changed, suddenly he howled in pain: "It hurts, hurts, let go of me!"

"You’re the kind who only bullies women!"

Ling Feng scoffed coldly and let go, then furiously said: "Get lost right now!"

Hu Er rubbed his wrist, and a vicious gleam flashed in his eyes.

He then reached to his waist and drew out a Dagger, as the woman screamed in terror: "I’ll kill you!"

The gleaming blade aimed straight for Ling Feng’s abdomen, who slightly furrowed his brow and flicked the Dagger away with a swipe of his hand.

Then he delivered a flying kick, sending Hu Er flying from the inside of the house to the outside!

The woman was so scared that she was dumbfounded, looking blankly at Ling Feng, unable to speak.

Ling Feng took out a hundred yuan bill and handed it to her: "This is for the meal, no need for change."

"Oh, oh."

The woman blankly accepted the money, staring as Ling Feng left the door.

At this time, Hu Er was lying on the ground groaning in pain.

Ling Feng came over, squatted down in front of him, and said: "Don’t ever come to harass her again, otherwise what happened today will only be a single kick; tomorrow I will make sure you spend the rest of your life bedridden!"

"..."

Hu Er’s eyes were filled with hatred, but he said nothing.

He knew he couldn’t beat Ling Feng, and now he was in so much pain that he could only admit defeat.

Ling Feng glanced at him, snorted coldly, and turned back to the inn.

An incidental matter encountered by chance, he could only take care of it so much.

Going upstairs and back to his room, Ling Feng lay down ready to rest, only to hear the sound of a conversation coming from the room next door.

Only then did he realize the rooms were separated by wooden panels!

The panels were probably no more than three centimeters thick, rendering them practically soundproof.

And the two people in the next room didn’t seem to be aware, as they were enthusiastically chatting.

One of them could be heard asking: "Boss, are you sure there are good things in that grave?"

"How many times have you asked that already? If I wasn’t sure, why would I bring you back?" asked another voice.

"I’m just worried it’ll be a wasted trip!"

"Don’t worry, it certainly won’t be wasted, once we dig the things out, we’ll split it sixty-forty, I won’t shortchange you!"

Ling Feng listened clearly from the next room, speechless in his heart.

These two people were the ones he encountered when he was leaving earlier, thinking they were workers returning to their hometown, but it turned out they were Tomb Robbers!

As their conversation continued, he realized that the grave they intended to rob was actually his family’s ancestral tomb, and Ling Feng thought, how could there be such people?

What kind of person would do such a thing?

Just as he was speechless, Ling Feng’s phone suddenly rang, interrupting the conversation in the next room.
