Chapter 698: Shoes
Killing a giant beast with surprising ease, Ling Feng was pleased for a moment before he prepared to see if there was anything useful on the creature.
After pulling out the harpoon, before he even started to make his move, a silver sphere rolled out from the wound.
Ling Feng was taken aback, picked it up, and immediately three words came to mind: "White Jiao Pearl."
This thing was the monster’s inner core, filled with Spiritual Energy, which could be used in medicine and also as a material for crafting pills.
"Good stuff, I’ll take it!"
Ling Feng was delighted, and immediately started cutting into the monster’s head with a fruit knife, hoping to find more White Jiao Pearls.
However, it seemed that this kind of monster had only one in its head, and after searching for a while, he found nothing new.
Looking at the shiny teeth, Ling Feng used the fruit knife to pry one out and immediately received the information: "Jiao Tooth."
It could also be used in medicine, and being of high quality, Ling Feng naturally did not hold back. He pried them all out, one by one!
With a good haul, he busied himself for a while, then sat down on the ground to rest.
There was no point in examining the flesh of this beast, and he had no idea if it was edible, so he was not about to take that risk.
But after a look, Ling Feng suddenly had an idea, and stood up to go over to the creature’s side.
The beast’s skin was white and appeared very tough.
Ling Feng tried cutting into it with the fruit knife, only to find that it couldn’t penetrate at all!

Ling Feng gave it a try and, not surprisingly, the Jiao Tooth easily made a large cut in the tough skin!
So, Ling Feng quickly stripped off a large piece of the skin.
The thing was more than a centimeter thick—so tough that even the steel fruit knife couldn’t penetrate it—perfect for making soles of shoes!
And because it had a certain flexibility, like rubber, it was even more ideal.
Adding a couple of sturdy shoelaces, he could make a pair of flip-flops!
With materials to make shoes in hand, Ling Feng smiled slightly, and since it was still early, he didn’t hurry back to find An Xue but continued to walk a little further.
"Boom!"
He hadn’t walked far when a muffled roar suddenly came from the sky!
Ling Feng looked up and saw a patch of dark clouds drifting over from the edge of the sky, mixed with flashes of lightning and peals of thunder—it was obviously going to rain!
Seeing this, he did not delay any longer and turned to walk back.
Just by looking at the clouds, he knew the rain wouldn’t be small, and Ling Feng did not want to get soaked like a drowned rat!
He hurried through the jungle, found the path leading up the mountain, and ran all the way until he got back to the terrace. Then the raindrops, large as beans, started to fall.
Standing there, he could see the entire valley was a vast expanse of white; the scenery was indeed quite spectacular.
At that time, An Xue asked, "Brother Ling, have you found anything else?"
"This thing should be no problem for making shoes for you."
Ling Feng handed her the piece of skin, then promptly sat down with a flop.
Taking it in her hands, An Xue felt it was soft and yet resilient, her face immediately brightened up with happiness.
However, seeing Ling Feng looking out at the heavy rain, she did not say anything but sat down next to him.
After a long while, streaks of lightning lit up the gloomy valley, occasionally illuminating it, and the sound of the thunder was also rolling in.
An Xue was a bit scared; it was her first time encountering such heavy rain and bright lightning.
So subconsciously, she moved closer to Ling Feng and sat snugly beside him.
Ling Feng looked at her and stretched his arm to embrace her shoulders, "Don’t be afraid, it’s just rain."
"Mhm."
An Xue nodded slightly, leaning naturally on his shoulder, and a strong sense of security instantly filled her heart.
He didn’t know how long it had been, but as the thunderstorm showed no signs of stopping, Ling Feng noticed that An Xue hadn’t moved at all, so he glanced at her again.
And then he was speechless, as the girl had actually fallen asleep.
He sighed silently in his heart and stopped looking at her, turning his gaze towards the mountain valley.
Just like that, time trickled by, and when the rain lessened and the dark clouds had dissipated, Ling Feng realized the sun had already set, and it was now dark.
So he gently nudged An Xue, whispering, "Wake up, are you hungry?"
An Xue mumbled something, rubbed her eyes, and looked up at the sky, "It’s dark?"
"Yes, you must have slept well, haven’t you?" Ling Feng asked with a smile that was not quite a smile.
An Xue’s face turned red, and she murmured an assent, "Did your shoulder go numb?"
"It’s all right!"
Ling Feng smiled, stood up, and said, "I’ll start a fire first, then roast some fish for you to eat."
"That sounds great, I’ll figure out how to make shoes!"
An Xue stuck out her tongue playfully and smiled.
As soon as Ling Feng heard this, he immediately took out a piece of White Jiao’s tooth, "A fruit knife won’t cut it, try using this, don’t worry about breaking it, we have plenty of these!"
"Oh, what is this thing?" An Xue asked curiously as she received the shiny tooth in her hand.
"It’s a monster’s tooth, and that’s its skin!"
Ling Feng didn’t hide anything and, after saying this, took out some firewood from the Ring.
An Xue was taken aback for a moment, biting her lip.
Just the mention of monster skin made her feel a bit odd about it.
Seeing her reaction, Ling Feng laughed and said, "What’s the matter? The leather shoes you’re wearing are also made from animal skin, so what’s the difference?"
"That’s true."
Reminded by him, An Xue suddenly didn’t feel awkward anymore.
So, one started making a fire and roasting fish while the other studied how to punch holes and thread laces, and the quiet cave entrance was filled with warmth.
An Xue had no string, so she asked Ling Feng for some, and he rummaged in the Ring for a while before pulling out two canvas straps, "Use these for now."
"No problem."
An Xue didn’t mind and took them, getting back to work.
By the time the aroma of Ling Feng’s grilled fish filled the air, her shoes were also finished.
She had cut the soles to match the shape of her feet and threaded the two canvas straps through the top and bottom, tying each into a bow!
Ling Feng couldn’t help but laugh when he saw them, "I thought you were going to make simple flip-flops, but you’ve created sandals instead!"
"Sandals are more convenient, aren’t they? Just tie the straps around the ankle and you’re good to go," An Xue said with a laugh.
"You’re clever indeed!"
Watching her demonstrate how to wear the shoes, Ling Feng felt a stirring in his heart!
It wasn’t the shoes that moved him but her small, snow-white and crystal clear feet, and the shapely thighs encased in the diving suit.
An Xue, oblivious to the scrutiny, happily put on her shoes and walked a few steps in front of Ling Feng before declaring, "They fit perfectly!"
"I never realized you had such a crafty side!" Ling Feng said with a laugh.
"That’s because you know too little about me!"
An Xue glanced at him and said softly.
