Chapter 495 Farewell
Ling Feng sighed, "It’s all up to you now, however you may see it."
"Okay, I’ll give it a try," she replied without dwelling further on the previous topic and nodded.
After speaking, she reached out and pressed a button on the car’s central console.
Ling Feng was taken aback as he watched a slit open in the console, and a large screen rose up.
The screen lit up, displaying a blue background, followed by a dialog box popping up, prompting for a password.
"Hey, can’t you consciously look away for a bit?" Zhou Yi gave him a look.
Ling Feng promptly turned his head away and said, "I had no idea your car was so advanced."
"Jealous? There’s only one of these cars in the entire security bureau!" Zhou Yi said proudly.
Ling Feng was speechless, thinking to himself how the higher-ups always have the upper hand, and this must be the privilege of a special status, right?
The screen was unlocked. Zhou Yi’s fingers moved swiftly, quickly typing in Li Wannian, and then pulling up a file.
Ling Feng, with eyes wide open, swallowed and asked, "Is it appropriate for me to be here? Should I keep avoiding it?"
"Then close your eyes. I’ll see what kind of secret files they are. If you can look at them, I’ll let you know," Zhou Yi instructed.
Ling Feng had no choice but to comply; it wasn’t like he could step out and freeze outside. The car was warm, and it felt quite comfortable.
So he leaned back into the seat and closed his eyes.
A few minutes later, Zhou Yi suddenly said, "Okay, open your eyes."
Ling Feng straightened up and looked at the screen, which had gone dark, and he asked in surprise, "What’s going on?"
"You’re better off not asking about this matter."
Zhou Yi said seriously and earnestly.
Ling Feng: "..."
After a moment of stunned silence, he soon let out a wry smile, "What’s the situation? Is there some secret that warrants this much secrecy?"
"I can’t tell you."
Zhou Yi puffed her cheeks, looking quite cute, but Ling Feng was in no mood to find amusement and asked helplessly, "So, I’m not supposed to meddle in the Li Family’s affairs and can only watch Shiyun leave me?"
"Not necessarily."
Zhou Yi shook her head, then frowned and pondered for a moment, "Well, although I can’t tell you about the Li Family’s matters, I promise that I’ll take care of this for you!"
"You? How will you help?" Ling Feng asked.
"I have my ways. I like that girl Li Shiyun a lot too—I won’t let her suffer!" Zhou Yi assured.
Ling Feng’s eyes widened, "Suffer? What kind of suffering? Where is she going exactly?"
"Relax, don’t get worked up!"
Zhou Yi shook her head helplessly, then asked, "Do you trust me or not?"
Ling Feng felt like saying no, but seeing the look in her eyes, he still nodded, "I trust you."
"That’s good. I’ve given you my word, and I’ll definitely follow through, so don’t worry," Zhou Yi said.
"What now? Should I thank you first?" Ling Feng said, somewhat resignedly.
"No need for that. Just remember that you owe me a favor!" Zhou Yi said with a light laugh.
Ling Feng had no choice but to take a serious look at her and let out a slight sigh, "Alright then, I won’t disturb your rest. I’ll head back now."
"Go on, don’t overthink it. Remember, there will always be a way when you come to the mountain!"
On the way back to the village committee office, Ling Feng mulled over these words several times in his heart, always feeling that she had an implied meaning.
But as to what it actually meant, perhaps only she herself knew clearly.
After returning to his room and seeing that Li Shiyun was still sound asleep, with a sweet smile on her face that made Ling Feng’s heart ache, he carefully lay back down beside her, intently watching her.
He watched, not knowing how much time passed, as if time had frozen and no longer flowed.
...
...
By the time it was nearly noon the next day, the yard of the village committee office was already filled with quite a few people.
Mo Jiaolan, Chen Yuhe, as well as Li Fei’er and others, including Xun Qianqian, who had arrived via teleportation, were all there to see off Li Shiyun.
Everyone’s expression was somewhat pained, but to avoid making Li Shiyun sad, they all managed to squeeze out a trace of a smile.
Several boxes were filled with gifts everyone had prepared. After the items were placed in the trunk, Li Shiyun turned to look at them, "Okay, everyone cheer up, I’m not saying I won’t come back."
Li Fei’er was the first to cry, rushing forward to hug Li Shiyun’s waist, "Sister, I don’t want you to go!"
"Silly girl, haven’t we already agreed? No crying, with you like this, I—I can’t take it either," Li Shiyun’s voice trembled, her eyes also turning red.
Saying goodbye was imminent and with both of them like this, everyone else’s eyes turned red as well.
Ling Feng suppressed the reluctance in his heart, forcing a smile as he stepped forward, pulled Li Fei’er away, and then said to Li Shiyun, "It’s getting late, you should get in the car. Remember, we’re all waiting for you here!"
"I know!"
Li Shiyun looked deeply at him, as if trying to imprint his face onto her heart.
But in the end, she had to leave, so after glancing at everyone, she turned and got into the car.
The engine roared, and the car slowly pulled away, driving out of Shiliu Village along the road.
Everyone stood silently, and it was a while before Zhang Lan came up to Ling Feng, "Ling Feng, don’t be sad, Shiyun will surely come back soon!"
"Yeah, I know."
Ling Feng nodded, looked at the people with red-rimmed eyes, and said, "Alright, let’s not stay here anymore, everyone go home."
"Uncle, why didn’t you try to find a way to keep Sister Shiyun?" Li Fei’er asked.
"I thought about it, but then I realized, even though I feel like somebody now, in reality, I’m less than an ant!" Ling Feng said.
Upon hearing his words, everyone paused in their steps!
They turned to look at him, and only then did they understand that Ling Feng’s heart was bearing the most pain!
Mo Jiaolan reached out her small hand and took his, but said nothing.
Actually, at this moment, nothing said would be of any use. The frustration building in Ling Feng’s chest and belly, undischarged, was intolerable!
Everyone went back home in silence. The girls looked at each other, and it was Li Fei’er who spoke first, "Uncle, let’s go to the Nine Heavens, shall we?"
"Right, that’s what I was thinking too."
Ling Feng nodded.
However, once everyone teleported there, he declined the suggestion to go to the First Layer and went to the Third Layer alone.
Watching Ling Feng’s figure disappear, Mo Jiaolan sighed and said, "Let him have some peace by himself for a while. I believe Ling Feng will recover on his own."
Everyone nodded solemnly, then went together to the First Layer.
Time flew by, and before long, it was evening when Ling Feng left the Third Layer to come out to the grassland outside.
At that moment, his body was naked, with only a few pieces of cloth hanging on him; there were a few wounds on his limbs oozing thin streams of blood, and he looked terribly disheveled.
Luckily there was no one around, otherwise if anyone saw him like this, they would surely cry out in alarm.
