The Greatest Village Doctor In The World

Chapter 478 A Little Interlude?

Ling Feng was taken aback by the question, and so was Zhang He, "Isn’t that something you know how to do?"

The two looked at each other, and Ling Feng wore an innocent face: "When did I say I could do it?"

Zhang He: "You can’t? Then why do you need the Alchemy Furnace for nothing?"

Ling Feng: "..."

With a helpless eye roll, he finally said, "Just because I can’t now doesn’t mean I won’t be able to later. Can’t I keep it for future use?"

"You..."

Zhang He was speechless, and if the car hadn’t been speeding down the freeway, he’d have wished to get out right there and then!

Ling Feng snickered mischievously, "This is what happens when you don’t give advance notice. If you had called me before departing, you wouldn’t have made this fruitless trip!"

"Enough with your wisecracks!"

Zhang He glanced at him, then continued, "I don’t care, I came here expecting to gain something. No matter what, you have to concoct an Elixir for me!"

"Big brother, stop joking around!"

Ling Feng sighed helplessly, looking at the road ahead and said, "Right now, I only have a Pill Furnace. I have none of the materials. What am I supposed to use to make it for you?"

"..."

Zhang He fell silent.

Seeing his silence, Ling Feng grew even more curious, "What did you want to concoct?"

"We’ll talk about it when we get there; my mind’s a mess right now!" Zhang He closed his eyes.

Seeing that he was genuinely upset, Ling Feng chuckled to himself and decided not to ask any more questions, concentrating on his driving instead.

By noon, they returned to the county town.

Seeing that it was nearly past lunchtime, Ling Feng didn’t head back to the village but drove to Yang Guihua’s place instead.

He hadn’t visited her for a while, and with Zhang He coming over today, it was only proper to act as a good host and treat him to some special local dishes, right?

So they arrived at the restaurant in the southern part of the town, and both men got out of the car and entered.

Yang Guihua, who was busy at work, looked up and saw Ling Feng, immediately exclaiming with a smile, "You rascal, what wind blew you in here today?"

"Haven’t been here for a long time. Just so happens a friend visited today, so I thought I’d come over!" Ling Feng replied with a smile.

The two had interacted a few times before, but ever since Miao Ruoruo started growing mushrooms, Ling Feng’s products no longer made their way here.

Yang Guihua’s eyes danced as she sized up Ling Feng and asked teasingly, "I heard you’ve been getting quite close with Ruoruo. How about it, should you be thanking me for playing matchmaker?"

"Uh, well..."

Ling Feng scratched his head, remembering the times he had fancied her, which suddenly made him feel a bit embarrassed.

Fortunately, Yang Guihua was an understanding woman. Seeing his reaction, she said with a laugh, "Alright, I won’t tease you anymore. Hurry to the private room in the back; there’s a single room available!"

"That’s great!"

They reached the private room at the back when suddenly Zhang He said, "You go ahead and order; I’ll step out for a moment!"

"Why, you need to use the restroom?" Ling Feng asked.

"No, I’ve got something to do!"

Zhang He said and got up to leave.

Ling Feng watched his retreating figure with a look of bewilderment; ever since hearing about his inability to concoct, Zhang He had been preoccupied, and Ling Feng couldn’t fathom why.

But he couldn’t be bothered to ponder it any longer, and as soon as the waiter brought over the menu, he quickly ordered several of the restaurant’s signature dishes.

It wasn’t until the kitchen started bringing out the orders that Zhang He returned, sat down, and said, "All settled. You don’t have the materials, so I’ll provide them. I’ll just be borrowing your Alchemy Furnace, okay?"

Ling Feng was startled; only then did he realize what Zhang He had been doing — he’d gone out to gather materials via phone!

But at the same time, he was also somewhat surprised and asked with wide eyes, "No way, you know the recipe? And you can get the materials for alchemy?"

"Don’t ask about that, just know that by noon tomorrow, the stuff will be delivered!" Zhang He said.

Ling Feng uttered an "oh," then laughed, "Turns out you’re not so simple after all, besides being a deputy director, what other background do you have?"

"You think I would tell you?"

Zhang He grabbed his chopsticks for another bite and looked up to ask.

Ling Feng sighed, "I thought we were pretty good friends by now, seems like I thought too much!"

"Enough with that, could you tell me all your secrets?" Zhang He gave him a look.

Although the two were bickering, it was simply a way of communication between men and did not mean their relationship was distant.

After lunch, Ling Feng stood up to pay the bill. When he approached the counter, he didn’t see Yang Guihua but a young waiter instead.

So, he curiously asked, "Where’s the boss lady?"

"She took a phone call and left without saying what for," the waiter said.

Ling Feng nodded and, without giving it much thought, settled the bill and prepared to take Zhang He home.

However, as soon as they stepped out, they saw a car speeding towards them and stopping at the entrance.

Then, a bald man jumped out of the car, running over with an apologetic smile, "Ling, Ling Brother!"

Ling Feng looked at the man, who was clearly nearly forty, yet still addressed him as ’brother,’ and said with a bitter smile, "How polite, who are you?"

"Ling Brother doesn’t remember me?"

The man was startled, then smiled and said, "Last time we were here talking business with the boss lady, it was you who gave us a lesson!"

"Er..."

Now that he mentioned it, Ling Feng kind of remembered, but still asked in confusion, "You looking for me? What’s up?"

"The boss lady asked me to find you; there’s trouble at her place!" the man said.

"What trouble? Couldn’t she just call; why’d she send you to tell me?" Ling Feng wondered aloud.

"The house has been demolished, the phone’s smashed, and we didn’t have your number!"

"What the hell?"

As soon as Ling Feng heard this, he got worked up. What was going on?

"Get in the car, take me there to have a look!" he said in a hurry.

"Alright!"

A few minutes later, the car arrived, and from a distance, they could see a crowd gathered, all there to watch the excitement.

Beyond these people, they could see an excavator and a bulldozer busily tearing down a house!

Ling Feng understood the situation almost immediately and glancing at Zhang He, said, "This must look quite ridiculous to you."

"These things happen all over the country, not just here. Let’s go figure out what’s going on!" Zhang He commented nonchalantly as he took the lead in stepping out of the car.

As they approached, cries of a woman could be heard from the crowd; it was Yang Guihua’s voice. Ling Feng frowned and pushed his way into the crowd.

When he finally got to the heart of the matter, he saw about a dozen men in security guard uniforms standing around, with three of them holding down Yang Guihua on the ground, making her unable to move!

Ling Feng understood; no wonder the chap had gone back for him. They were just small-timers, while this bunch in security uniforms was clearly more formidable, not someone they could handle.

Seeing Yang Guihua, a woman, being bullied like this, a fire rose in Ling Feng’s heart, and he shouted, "Let her go!"

The security guards turned around, and one burly, wide-waisted guard with slanted eyes said, "Who are you? Mind your own business unless you want trouble for yourself!"

"Last chance, let her go!" Ling Feng lowered his face and shouted coldly!
