The Greatest Village Doctor In The World

Chapter 470: Do Not Let Her Down

Ling Feng felt utterly delighted in his heart, turned his head to gaze at the misty rain in the sky, and felt his mood was exceptionally good!

After returning to the Qiao Family home, the two girls ran off to play in the back, while Ling Feng stood at the window watching the rain outside, his mind had already flown back home.

Hearing footsteps behind him, he had thought it was Joanna coming, but when he turned around, the person who came was Qiao Jinsong!

Ling Feng quickly smiled, "Uncle Qiao, you’re here?"

Qiao Jinsong nodded slightly, "How do you like it? The scenery around my house isn’t bad, right?"

"It has quite the Jiangnan vibe," Ling Feng said with a smile.

"Glad you like it. After the rain stops, would you accompany me for a hike into the mountains?" Qiao Jinsong asked.

Ling Feng was taken aback, unsure of what he meant.

But he still nodded immediately, "Sure, but I have no idea when this rain will stop."

"It’ll be over soon. It’s not the plum rain season yet, so it won’t last very long," Qiao Jinsong said indifferently.

As if on cue with his words, the rain stopped after two hours, and before noon, a gap opened in the clouds, and afterward, sunlight poured down to the earth.

Qiao Jinsong had already changed into casual clothes. Seeing that, Ling Feng quickly went out the door, and the two of them walked shoulder to shoulder out of the Qiao Family’s courtyard.

They were both silent. Without a word, they strolled along, and soon they were walking down a stone-paved road into the mountains.

The so-called path through the secluded bamboo forest suddenly opened up to a vast stretch of flat land after turning past several tall bushes.

Ling Feng felt a stir in his heart and couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Uncle Qiao, is this the Spirit Field you were talking about?"

"Yes. How many acres do you think this plot of land is?" Qiao Jinsong nodded.

After estimating in his mind, Ling Feng said with a smile, "Should be more than thirty acres, right?"

"Exactly, thirty-six acres to be precise, not one more, not one less!" Qiao Jinsong confirmed with a nod.

"That precise?" Ling Feng was startled.

Qiao Jinsong nodded, "Yes, and we only discovered it later. No matter how many times we’ve measured, it’s always this number."

Ling Feng felt puzzled, "Is there supposed to be some significance behind it?"

"There might be. I’ve scoured through numerous records, wanting to find if there’s a special meaning, but all I could find was the Daoist concept of the Thirty-six Heavenly Stems, without any clear connection between the two," Qiao Jinsong said with a smile.

Ling Feng had indeed heard of it, remember some book mentioning that the Thirty-six Heavenly Stems and Seventy-two Earthly Fiends are representatives of the celestials, but it seemed tough to link it to the Spirit Field.

So he scratched his head, "Indeed curious. If it were ordinary land, that would be one thing, but it is filled with Spiritual Energy!"

"Right, several generations in the Qiao Family haven’t been able to figure it out. By the time it came to me, I didn’t really want to research it anymore, just let it be," Qiao Jinsong said with a smile as he continued to walk along the path.

Ling Feng glanced at the various plants growing in the Spirit Field, then quickly followed.

They hadn’t walked much further when a turn in the path brought them to the foot of a hill.

This hill had a peculiar shape; viewed from above, it would probably resemble a semicircular chair, with Shan Feng being the position of the chair back.

Ling Feng saw some structures faintly discernible within the embrace of the surrounding hills in front of him, and his curiosity was immediately piqued. What place was this?

But as he drew closer, he realized it was actually a cemetery!

Stopping in his tracks, Ling Feng was suddenly confused, unsure of why Qiao Jinsong had brought him here.

Yet since Qiao Jinsong didn’t pause, he had no choice but to follow, while tentatively asking with an awkward smile, "Uncle Qiao, is this the Qiao Family’s ancestral tomb?"

"Yes!"

Qiao Jinsong walked with his hands behind his back, weaving through the graves for a while before stopping in front of a stele.

All the other graves had some years on them, but this one in front of him was different, its stele brand new, with a photo etched onto it. Ling Feng only glanced at it once, and it felt as if he had been struck by lightning, his whole body freezing in place!

That photo was actually of Joanna!

No, that wasn’t right; the two of them looked alike, but on closer inspection, you could tell they weren’t the same person!

Ling Feng realized that buried here was likely Joanna’s mother!

As expected, after a moment of silence, Qiao Jinsong turned his head and said, "This is my wife, Jenny."

"Uh..."

Ling Feng, momentarily lost for words, pondered for a moment before asking, "How did Auntie pass away?"

"It’s such a pity. If we had met you earlier, she might have still had a chance to live."

With a heavy sigh, Qiao Jinsong continued, "A year ago, our family went on vacation to Southeast Asia, and we encountered an attack. If it weren’t for Jenny’s timely intervention, my younger daughter would probably no longer be with us."

Ling Feng said nothing, listening attentively to his story, gradually learning about what had happened.

Although they had killed the attacker, Jenny was seriously wounded, and not long after returning to the country, she succumbed to her injuries.

"Her meridians were completely severed. Only a Divine Doctor like you could have possibly healed her," Qiao Jinsong lamented, his eyes filled with desolation.

Ling Feng felt helpless and let out a sigh as well, "I actually can’t guarantee that I could have cured Auntie, but at least I could have tried. It’s a shame I’m too late."

The two were silent for a long time, until Qiao Jinsong suddenly turned back around, "The reason I brought you here... I didn’t really have another purpose. You must have thought it strange when you came and didn’t see Anna and An Ran’s mother, right?"

"Yes, now it all makes sense!"

"Sigh!"

Qiao Jinsong let out a sigh, "You still don’t understand why I knew about your medical skills, do you?"

"I do. With the Qiao Family’s resources, I believe a little investigation would reveal all there is to know about my past and present," Ling Feng said with a wry smile.

"Mmm, don’t blame me. You’ve risen to prominence so rapidly that not just I, but many people are curious about you," Qiao Jinsong spoke indifferently.

Ling Feng simply hummed in acknowledgment, "A tall tree catches the wind; I understand that."

Qiao Jinsong gave him a look, "But after investigating, I also learned that you’re a trustworthy person. Now you’ve seen it yourself, Anna is quite pitiable. I hope you will be good to her in the future!"

Ling Feng: "Ah?"

He was genuinely puzzled, having not anticipated that the conversation would take this turn!

Looking bewildered, he stared at Qiao Jinsong and stammered, "Uncle Qiao, I don’t, I don’t understand what you mean."

"Think about it yourself, just don’t let her down, that’s all!"

Qiao Jinsong smiled and turned to walk back.

Ling Feng stood there, stunned, struggling to describe the mix of feelings inside him.

Was this an implicit parental blessing?

He opened his mouth, realizing the meaning behind those words. Was it an approval of his relationship with Anna?

The more he pondered, the more it seemed so, a hint of a smile spreading across Ling Feng’s lips, his heart blossoming with joy!

However, he wasn’t about to become arrogant. Instead, he started thinking about his own worthiness; what had he done to deserve such trust?

Although things seemed to be going well for him now, in reality, apart from his formidable personal power, he had nothing much to speak of!

With these thoughts, Ling Feng shook his head with a wry smile, "It seems I have to work even harder!"
