Chapter 433: You Live in the West Room of My House!
Chen Ping furrowed his brow, "What are you thinking about? Your job is to oversee the operations to prevent any sabotage. No matter what is unearthed, it cannot be stolen by these people, understand?"
"Understood!"
Ling Feng nodded hurriedly and then cautiously asked, "What about that item?"
"It depends on the situation, on the value. Right now, no one dares to promise that whatever is dug up will be split evenly between you and the Chu Family. If it’s too astonishing, to prevent unnecessary incidents, we reserve the right to confiscate it!"
"Alright then."
That condition was not too harsh. Minor disturbances were okay, but if something like a high-quality Spirit Stone or something of even greater strategic value was dug up, the state definitely would not allow it to be held privately.
After leaving Chen Ping, on his way home, Ling Feng dialed Chu Nan’s number.
No sooner had the call connected than Chu Nan asked with a laugh, "What, getting anxious? Don’t worry, I’ll head to Shahe Village tomorrow."
"It’s not that I’m anxious, just something I wanted to tell you!" Ling Feng gave a wry smile.
Chu Nan seemed to detect something in his tone and asked, "What’s the matter?"
"The Security Bureau knows about our affair..."
Ling Feng didn’t hide anything, recounting the entire story from start to finish.
After listening, Chu Nan was silent for a while and then let out a wry laugh, "That really is..."
He was at a loss for words to describe it.
Ling Feng chuckled, "I think it’s a good thing, at least having the Security Bureau watching over us, they managed to uncover a hidden organization. Otherwise, you would be too passive, being targeted without even knowing it!"
"You’re right, only..."
Chu Nan’s voice was still tinged with bitterness. Ling Feng understood and replied with a laugh, "Alright now, the Chu Family is one of the three great families of Huaxia, don’t be so petty. What’s wrong with contributing to the country?"
"Okay, you’re right, let’s talk more when we meet tomorrow."
As the conversation proceeded, Chu Nan seemed to remember something and added, "Oh right, when you have time, go check out Shahe Village too. I’ve rented two houses there; we can stay temporarily when the time comes!"
"Is that necessary? I have a home, and it’s not far away!" Ling Feng laughed.
"Go if you want."
Chu Nan said just that and hung up the phone.
Ling Feng continued to drive, reaching a crossroads. For some reason, he turned onto the road leading to Shahe Village.
"I should still take a look. If work truly begins, I might need to stay there around the clock. It would be nice to secure a comfortable house first!"
With that thought, Ling Feng drove straight to Shahe Village!
The roaring sound of the Warrior military vehicle caught the villagers’ attention, and many quickly came out of their homes and gathered outside.
As Ling Feng got out of the car and saw so many people staring at him, he was somewhat baffled and scratched his head, asking, "What’s all this about?"
"You’re here, benefactor! Come inside for a visit and have some water!"
"Come to my house; I have fine tea!"
"No, come to mine. We slaughtered a pig yesterday and have pork knuckles!"
Facing the villagers’ enthusiasm, Ling Feng was even more bewildered. Seeing Zhang Jinhua in the crowd, whom he recognized, he asked, "What’s the situation?"
"Old Wang Kan has been put on file. A lot of people from the county came yesterday to investigate and gather evidence. They say he might be sentenced to death. Everyone is thanking you!" Zhang Jinhua explained.
Suddenly enlightened, Ling Feng then said to the crowd with a smile, "Everyone, there’s no need to be so formal with me. This is just a small matter, and as for Old Wang Kan, he’s only reaping what he sowed. If he hadn’t broken the law, he wouldn’t have been arrested!"
"It’s all because of you, without you, we wouldn’t have stood a chance in the lawsuit!"
"Exactly, he’s been oppressing us for so many years, it’s all thanks to you!"
"Also, we got the compensation for the land acquisition, each family got tens of thousands!"
Hearing the villagers’ clamorous gratitude, Ling Feng felt quite happy inside. The people’s demands were actually quite simple, just fairness and reasonableness.
So, after smiling, he said to everyone, "I appreciate your kindness, but I’m here today for business. Isn’t the pig farm still under construction? I heard you rented a house in the village?"
"Yes, it’s rented to my second sister-in-law’s family!" Zhang Jinhua quickly said.
Ling Feng was taken aback, not expecting it to be her, but immediately smiled, "Good, then take me to see it."
"You want to see my house?" Zhang Jinhua was surprised.
The rest of the crowd was also puzzled, not knowing what he intended to do.
Seeing their confusion, Ling Feng quickly explained, "I’m in a partnership with them now, so I’ll also be staying here for a few days once the work starts, just to check out the environment first!"
"Oh, that’s great! Everyone, no need to rush, since Ling Feng will be staying in our village for a few days, there will be plenty of opportunities to thank him!" Zhang Jinhua said loudly.
Everyone agreed with this reasoning, so they didn’t press the issue.
Ling Feng followed Zhang Jinhua towards the east side of the village, stopping at the entrance of a courtyard.
"This is my place, next door is my second sister-in-law’s. Come in, quickly!"
Zhang Jinhua walked briskly ahead, entering the house first.
Pushing open the door, a scent of incense filled the air, and a strong sense of warmth enveloped Ling Feng, rejuvenating his spirit.
It was already deep winter, and the temperature outside was very low, but the house was warmly heated. Ling Feng saw the stove and remarked, "The fire is burning fiercely!"
"I just bought some coal, burned a little extra. Come on into the inner room and sit down, I’ll go get you some water!"
Ling Feng entered the inner room and found it small but homely.
At that moment, Zhang Jinhua came in with a kettle, "Don’t just stand there, take a seat. The room I’ve rented out is my side room, but you can stay in the west room if you like, just as warm!"
"Ah? Wouldn’t that be inappropriate? I’m just staying for a few days; the side room is fine," Ling Feng said, taken aback.
He didn’t know about Zhang Jinhua’s family situation. If it was just her alone, it wouldn’t be proper for them to live in the same house, one room each. The villagers might think too much of it. He didn’t mind, but a woman’s reputation was at stake.
Zhang Jinhua glanced at him and said with a smile, "Are you the same as them? The side room is no match for the main house, definitely colder. You just stay in my west room comfortably!"
"Umm, is your older brother not home?" Ling Feng asked tentatively.
"No, he’s been living in the mountains for over ten years!" Zhang Jinhua said.
Ling Feng was surprised, "In the mountains? Why doesn’t he come home?"
"If that deadbeat came back, he’d scare me to death. He’s dead and buried up in the mountains!" Zhang Jinhua laughed.
Ling Feng was momentarily speechless.
He hadn’t expected the woman to have such a sense of humor, she really had pulled one over on him.
Considering that she was a widow, Ling Feng felt it was even more inappropriate to stay there, so he asked, "What about the second sister-in-law next door? Maybe I should go ask there?"
"No way, you stay at my place. You’re not allowed to go there. By the way, Ling Feng, how old are you, got a partner yet, engaged yet?" Zhang Jinhua poured a glass of water and handed it over as she asked.
