Chapter 427: You’re Going to Make a Merit Again!
As Ling Feng expanded his exploration area, he found increasingly surprising things, to the point where it even began to shock him!
Because aside from the everyday necessities, he also discovered weapons and a satellite phone!
"What the heck is going on?"
Ling Feng was now thoroughly confused, looking at the items in the cave, feeling as if he had stumbled upon something extraordinary!
While he was still in a daze, siblings Lin Xue and Lin Hu, along with Xun Qianqian, all arrived. Upon entering the cave, everyone turned on their flashlights, and the light instantly became much brighter.
Afterward, the three of them also saw the items laid out on the ground, all wearing baffled expressions.
"What is this person up to?"
Lin Hu squatted down, picked up a gun, and murmured to himself as he felt it.
Lin Xue frowned deeply, "Looking at this situation, this person has been living in the cave for a few days, at least three days, but no more than a week."
"Carrying weapons, agile, with a phone to communicate with the outside world, this person must be scheming something!"
Hearing her analysis, Ling Feng couldn’t help but ask, "Can the satellite phone’s number be traced? See who the other party is, perhaps we can uncover the truth."
Lin Xue picked up the phone and tried pressing the buttons, only to find out it was password-protected and she couldn’t unlock it.
Seeing this, Ling Feng suddenly thought of Du Song and said, "We shouldn’t worry about the password, just let Du Song crack it. I’ll go out and call him now!"
He made to leave after speaking, but Lin Xue stopped him, "We must report this to the higher-ups, you should just tell Director Chen directly!"
What was thought to be a kidnapping case was now tied to something much bigger; informing the security bureau was now inevitable.
Once outside the cave, Ling Feng pulled out his phone to check and found there was no signal, so he quickly made his way up the mountain. Shortly after reaching the hillside, he found a signal.
The ringtone sounded, and after more than thirty seconds, Chen Ping answered the call. Then he asked in a deep voice, "What’s wrong?"
"There’s something I need to report, Director Chen, you haven’t gone to sleep yet, have you?"
Chen Ping’s voice seemed tired, but he said, "No, what is it? Tell me."
Ling Feng didn’t beat around the bush. He recounted the incident about Lin Xue’s near abduction and his subsequent discovery of the cave; he added at the end, "Let Du Song and He Bing come over, and it would be best to bring equipment. I want to find out the communication records of that satellite phone!"
"Alright, we’ll be right there!"
Realizing the severity of the situation, Director Chen’s voice grew much more alert, and after a brief affirmation, he hung up.
Back in the cave, Ling Feng was taken aback to see Lin Hu already organizing the items and asked, "What are you doing? Aren’t you afraid of ruining the crime scene?"
Lin Hu gave him a disdainful look, "Watched too many crime dramas, huh? This isn’t the Bear Mountain scene, what’s there to ruin?"
Ling Feng’s face turned red, "Then what are you doing?"
"Taking these items back, of course. Can we leave these dangerous goods here? What if they get picked up by someone else?" Lin Hu explained.
"Alright then, Director Chen and the others will be here in a while anyway. I’ll have to guide them back here later, so let’s all go out and wait on the road." Ling Feng said.
The group left the cave, and twenty minutes later, they were back on the road.
At that moment, a set of headlights appeared in the distance, and soon several vehicles came driving up, parking by the roadside.
Director Chen got out of the car, followed by Du Song and the rest.
It was not just the three of them; several other staff members from Longyuan followed, carrying equipment in their hands.
Approaching, Director Chen saw the weapons Lin Hu had brought out and his brows instantly furrowed tightly!
He too was an expert, and the presence of such high-level weapons indicated that something very dangerous was likely about to occur!
Thereupon he asked in a somber tone, "Where’s the phone?"
"I’m here."
Lin Xue said and passed the satellite phone to Du Song.
Chen Ping glanced at her, "Are you alright?"
"I’m fine, just blacked out for a while and lost a few minutes of memory," Lin Xue remarked indifferently.
Hearing this, Chen Ping looked at Ling Feng without saying anything.
Ling Feng felt a bit embarrassed, as his look, even without saying anything, had an obvious tone of reproach.
This was just Director Chen; who knew if Lin Huaqiang would be even more severe in blaming him for not taking good care of Lin Xue once he arrived?
"The rest of you stay here, Ling Feng, you take me and He Bing into the mountain to check out that cave!"
"Alright!"
Ling Feng nodded, turned around, and started walking into the mountain.
Wang Cai and Xiao Qiang, seeing this, also wanted to follow them, but Ling Feng called out, "Stay here, no need to go again."
Hearing this, the three animals, Wang Cai included, immediately stopped in their tracks and stood behind Xun Qianqian.
Chen Ping found this quite amusing and, as he walked, asked, "Are these your dogs?"
"Yeah, but two of them are dogs, the grey one is a wolf!" Ling Feng said with a laugh.
"Director Chen, you have no idea; our boss’s three pets here are very precious and formidable!" He Bing chimed in.
Chen Ping uttered an "Oh," looking at Ling Feng and added, "Didn’t know you had the skill to train animals. When you have time, help me train a few police dogs, will you?"
Ling Feng was speechless; how many times had he even been to Longyuan, and where had he ever seen any police dogs?
Really, this Director Chen—discovering any small skill of his, he wanted to give it a try, huh?
Wasn’t satisfied with taking advantage, was he?
Seeing that Ling Feng didn’t say anything, Chen Ping laughed, "Never mind if you don’t want to help. Anyway, getting police dogs requires applying to the higher-ups, and who knows when they will approve it."
Ling Feng was even more speechless and, as if turning a deaf ear, continued walking deeper into the mountain.
At the cave, the accompanying staff lit up the entire space with huge floodlights, as Chen Ping, with a furrowed brow and hands behind his back, walked around and observed the surroundings.
The staff kept taking pictures, the flash of their cameras clicking without cease, while He Bing whispered to Ling Feng, "Boss, you’re going to make a name for yourself with this. This is a big case!"
"What credit is there to claim if the case isn’t solved yet?" Ling Feng rolled his eyes.
"With you around, isn’t it just a matter of time?" He Bing laughed.
Ling Feng glanced at him, "Getting better at flattering, are we?"
"Heh heh!"
With a chuckle, He Bing continued in a low voice, "Boss, there’s something fishy about this case. When you investigate, can you take me along?"
Seeing Ling Feng startled, he quickly explained, "I’m going crazy from boredom staying at Longyuan all day, just hoping for a mission. The chief will definitely put you on the case; consider it a favor for me, huh?"
"Alright, we’ll talk about it later!"
Ling Feng, understanding his meaning, said with a smile.
Meanwhile, Chen Ping had more or less finished inspecting the inside of the cave and turned around to ask, "Ling Feng, you’re familiar with these parts. Are there any targets of value around here?"
Ling Feng, who had been inwardly laughing at He Bing, felt an involuntary jolt in his heart upon hearing this, and without even thinking, blurted out immediately, "Damn, there really is a place!"
