Chapter 129 - 121: Transforming Baleful Energy with the Five Elements (Part 2)
Of course, a few days would be plenty. If Fang Qingyuan wanted to stay inside indefinitely, the guard outside wouldn’t allow it.
Jinbao couldn’t enter the second or third floors of the Scripture Pavilion, so Fang Qingyuan had entrusted him to Tian Ziyi, the keeper of the Beast Cage. He figured Jinbao was probably enjoying a nice meal right now, so he wasn’t worried.
After a night passed, Fang Qingyuan opened his eyes. He had spent the night meditating and regulating his breathing, and now he felt completely refreshed and energized, ready to continue his search for a suitable Cultivation Technique.
He picked up another jade slip from the Wood Element Technique Area, tucking it inside his robes just as before. After a moment’s thought, Fang Qingyuan turned and walked over to the nearby Earth Element Technique Area.
Fang Qingyuan’s Earth Spirit Root had absorbed over a hundred thousand cubic meters of Spirit Vein Ore Soil, and it was now on the verge of becoming a Top-grade Spirit Root. To prepare for the future, it was best to check out the Earth Element Techniques as well.
There were only nine jade slips in the Earth Element Technique Area, and Fang Qingyuan finished reviewing them in just over half a day. As before, he picked out one jade slip and tucked it into his robes, setting it aside for the final selection.
After finishing with the Earth Element Techniques, Fang Qingyuan eyed the adjacent fire and water element sections. Before he knew it, he was already walking over.
’Since I’m already here,’ he thought, ’how can I look at three elements and just leave out the other two?’ Fang Qingyuan was determined to round out the Five Elements.
By the third day, Fang Qingyuan had five jade slips tucked inside his robes. The large bulge at his chest was a rather amusing sight.
It wasn’t that Fang Qingyuan didn’t want to put the jade slips in his storage bag; they simply wouldn’t go in. The sect had placed a restriction on them.
’As for putting them in the Immortal Mansion?’
The thought had never even crossed Fang Qingyuan’s mind. Although he appeared to be alone on the second floor of the Scripture Pavilion, in reality, who knew how many pairs of eyes were watching him through an Array.
The Scripture Pavilion was far too important; the sect would naturally take precautions. It was the foundation of their power and could not afford any mishaps.
Having gone through all the Five Elements Techniques, Fang Qingyuan had browsed no fewer than forty Xuan Rank Techniques. Most of them were based on lofty concepts, and the philosophy elucidated in each was the culmination of a Golden Core Great Cultivator’s lifetime of experience.
The Cultivators capable of creating Xuan Rank Techniques had generally reached the Golden Core Stage. These Golden Core Cultivators all had their own philosophies on cultivation, and the Xuan Rank Techniques contained their unique understandings of their respective Daos. Though Fang Qingyuan only skimmed the surface, he still felt he had gained a great deal.
Fang Qingyuan now had five Xuan-grade Top-Grade Cultivation Techniques, one for each element, but these were merely candidates. He still hadn’t gone up to the third floor.
Fang Qingyuan searched the second floor of the Scripture Pavilion one more time. After confirming there were no other jade slips that suited him, he walked to the staircase leading to the third floor and started to climb.
It felt as if he had passed through an invisible barrier. The moment Fang Qingyuan stepped onto the third floor of the Scripture Pavilion, his vision blurred. Everything before him changed in an instant. He was no longer in the spacious, bright hall of the pavilion, but in a misty, mountainous land. Ahead of him stood more than a dozen large, stone steles.
Fang Qingyuan was inwardly shocked at the sight. After extending his Divine Sense, he discovered this wasn’t a false scene created by an Illusion Array, but an unquestionably real place.
’A Teleportation Array? Or was this a pocket dimension?’
After his initial surprise, Fang Qingyuan grew curious. He had never seen this place before. ’Could this be something Lechuan created in recent years?’
However, the Divine Technique of creating a pocket dimension was too astonishing. Fang Qingyuan guessed that Lechuan had likely set up a Teleportation Array on the third floor of the Scripture Pavilion. Once activated, the array would transport a person here.
Small-scale Teleportation Arrays didn’t cover long distances; their effective range was typically from a few thousand to tens of thousands of miles. Anything exceeding a hundred thousand miles would be considered a large-scale Teleportation Array.
Transporting a single person consumed an astonishing amount of Spirit Stones. This one trip for him alone must have cost at least a thousand Spirit Stones.
’A round trip would cost more than two thousand Low-grade Spirit Stones. ’By that measure,’ he thought, ’isn’t Zhao Liangde losing out on this deal?’’
’Oh, right. This was paid for by the sect; it had nothing to do with Zhao Liangde. He just issued the authorization, and the expense went on the sect’s books.’
Having cleared that up in his mind, Fang Qingyuan focused his attention on his surroundings. He could feel that the concentration of Spiritual Power here was incredibly high—the level of a High-level Spiritual Land, denser than any he had ever experienced.
By comparison, even the Third-rank Middle Grade Spirit Land on Celestial Gate Mountain where Lechuan cultivated couldn’t match the Spiritual Power here.
’There was no place like this on Celestial Gate Mountain. Where in the world did Lechuan build the third floor of the Scripture Pavilion?’
With these questions in mind, Fang Qingyuan walked toward the massive steles. There were more than a dozen of them, each about ten feet tall, with the tallest reaching a height of thirty feet.
Looking at the steles of varying heights, Fang Qingyuan wondered, ’Could these be the medium on which the Earth Rank Techniques are recorded?’
’If so, what did the different heights signify?’
There was no point in overthinking it. Fang Qingyuan was certain of only one thing: he was safe here. This was a place for imparting techniques, not a training ground. A pack of demonic beasts wasn’t about to charge out at him... right?
He walked to the nearest stele and examined the text inscribed on it. After a moment of study, he was shocked to realize he couldn’t understand most of it.
Although the script on the stele was one of the writing systems standardized by the Great Zhou Academy, it wasn’t the mainstream language. It looked more like the Beiwen script used in the North Sea region.
But his inability to read the script didn’t prevent him from understanding. He simply reached out and gently placed his hand on the ten-foot-tall stele. In the next instant, a massive torrent of information flooded into his mind.
