I Have a Modern Weapon Gacha System in the Zombie Apocalypse

Chapter 107: Must Get Out

"Sir, we have to decide what we really have to do. Are we going to stay or are we going to risk it?" Ryan asked.

All eyes were on Adrian, waiting for his decision. He knew that once the Sentinel Eye leaves the Korean airspace, they are blind in the air. And flying in the air is dangerous when the North Koreans or the South Koreans are operating. But staying here would mean they are in the line of fire from the North Koreans artillery and bombardment thanks to the worm that still persistently crawl around the city.

"We have to hope the North Koreans kill that worm and once they do, their aircraft will have to replenish for missiles and ammunitions and fuel, that will be our window to get out," Adrian said.

"But how are you going to get out when your choppers were taken down by that worm? I don’t get it," Seo said.

Adrian looked at Seo and she was right but she doesn’t know about her abilities, but he couldn’t just say that he has a system that can pull a helicopter out from thin air. He has to keep it a secret while explaining to her that there are still air assets.

"Well, I do remember that we have assets here in South Korea. If we can reach out to them, and if they are still alive, we can get out of here."

"So you are now betting on hope," Seo was practically confused at this point.

Adrian beckoned Ryan to come forward and he obliged.

Once he got closer, Adrian leaned in and whispered. "We need to get to the roof, the two of us, and then I’m going to summon two Black Hawk helicopters. But we will leave in ten minutes, you will have to pretend that you are reaching out to them on the radio."

"But sir, it’s a radio, no one will reply since it’s a fake one, though I get your plan to convince you that we have an asset here..."

"Still, in ten minutes we are going to go to the rooftop.

Ryan held his gaze for a second.

Then gave a small nod.

"Copy, sir," he said quietly.

No hesitation after that.

He stepped back, his expression returning to normal like nothing had just been said.

"Alright," Ryan said out loud, just enough for Seo-yeon to hear. "I’ll try to reach them."

Seo-yeon frowned slightly.

"You actually have someone here?" she asked.

Ryan shrugged.

"If they’re still alive," he said. "No guarantees."

That seemed to settle it, at least for now.

Adrian didn’t waste time.

"Ten minutes," he said. "We prep and move."

Another distant explosion echoed through the city, but it was farther now. The pattern had clearly shifted away from their sector.

Still dangerous.

But not immediate.

Ryan moved to the side and pulled out a handheld radio, adjusting frequencies like he was scanning.

"South Korea asset, this is Overwatch unit, do you copy?" he said into the mic.

Static answered him.

He tried again.

"Any friendly asset within Seoul, this is Overwatch, requesting immediate extraction support."

Still nothing.

But he kept going.

Adjusting channels.

Repeating calls.

Making it sound real.

Seo-yeon watched him for a moment, unsure whether to believe it or not.

Ten minutes later.

"Looks like they are unreachable, probably interference, I’ll get to the roof."

"I’m coming with you," Adrian said.

Ryan nodded once.

"Copy," he said.

He slung the radio back to his vest, still letting it hang loose like he might use it again any second.

Seo-yeon looked between them.

"You’re both going?" she asked.

Adrian turned to her.

"Just to establish contact," he said. "Signal is better up there."

She didn’t look fully convinced.

But she didn’t argue either.

Ryan gestured toward the team.

"Hold here," he said. "Stack inside the unit. No noise, no lights. If anything moves in the hallway—deal with it quietly."

"Copy," one of the operators replied.

Adrian checked his weapon once.

Then moved.

Ryan followed.

They stepped out into the hallway again, closing the door behind them with controlled movement.

The corridor was still quiet.

No infected.

No sound except the distant, dull thumps of artillery echoing across the city.

Ryan took point immediately.

"Moving," he said under his breath.

They advanced toward the stairwell and encountered no zombies as they were dealt with. They reached the top floor in just five minutes and once they were up there on the roof, they could see the North Korean fighter aircraft engaging on the worm.

From that height, the scale of it became clearer.

The jets weren’t circling blindly.

They were working in sequence.

Two came in low from the west, lining up along the same path. Their engines cut through the air in a sharp, rising tone before both aircraft released their payload almost at the same time.

Twin streaks of smoke dropped fast.

"Impact in—" Ryan started.

The explosions hit along the side of the worm’s body, close to where its segments overlapped. Fire wrapped around it, thicker this time, and for a brief second, the creature recoiled.

Not much.

But enough to notice.

Adrian narrowed his eyes.

"They found something," he said.

Another pair of jets followed immediately, this time coming in from a different angle. They weren’t aiming for the head anymore. They focused lower, targeting the same general section where the earlier missiles had landed.

"Same spot," Ryan muttered. "They’re concentrating fire."

Missiles hit again.

The blasts stacked over each other, the shockwaves overlapping until the street beneath the worm began to cave in from the repeated impacts.

The creature reacted harder.

Its body twisted, segments grinding against each other as it tried to rise higher. But the ground under it was already compromised. Chunks of asphalt and debris fell inward as the structure beneath gave way.

"Keep watching," Adrian said.

The next wave came heavier.

More aircraft.

More missiles.

No hesitation now.

They committed everything into that same point.

The explosions became continuous, merging into a single rolling blast that swallowed the entire section of the street. Fire, dust, and debris shot upward, blocking the view for a moment.

The smoke began to thin and the worm wasn’t rising anymore.

Its massive body sagged, sections collapsing inward as if whatever held it together had finally given out. The upper portion tilted, losing structure, before crashing down into the burning crater below.

The ground shook hard as it fell.

"Good, it’s down."
