Chapter 18 : Chapter 18
Chapter 18. The Hidden Secret of Stance Training?
The group made their way to the training compound.
Xu Yuan surveyed the surroundings and found that it was almost identical to Sun Rong’s courtyard.
There were six dormitories in total, each housing eight people. Xu Yuan and Tian Yang were assigned to Room Ding together.
The next moment, hearing the commotion, Li Shan and Wang Huan also walked out from inside. Upon seeing the two familiar faces, both were clearly surprised.
“Brother Xu, you broke through?”
Li Shan was stunned for a moment, then his face lit up with joy as he stepped forward and punched Xu Yuan lightly on the shoulder. “I knew you could do it!”
Wang Huan’s gaze flickered as he noticed Feng Xiao behind them, carrying their luggage.
These two had actually been escorted by Instructor Feng personally carrying their belongings?
Could there be something special about them?
However, after hearing that both had broken through just last night, he relaxed again.
Most likely, Instructor Feng had simply acted on a whim and helped them carry their luggage.
Thinking this, Wang Huan also revealed a smile, putting on the appearance of a warm and friendly person.
Xu Yuan smiled at Li Shan, then cupped his hands toward Feng Xiao. “Many thanks to Instructor Feng for seeing us here.”
Seeing this, Tian Yang hurriedly followed suit and expressed his thanks as well.
Feng Xiao nodded slowly and said indifferently, “Since you all came from the same rear courtyard, I informed them to arrange for you to be in the same dormitory.”
Naturally, everyone thanked him again.
A moment later, the two entered the room. Though the space was not large, there were only four bunk beds, so it did not feel crowded. It was also much cleaner than the outer courtyard.
The two lower bunks at the far end were already occupied. Xu Yuan turned to Tian Yang and asked, “Do you want the top bunk or the bottom?”
“Brother Yuan, you choose first. I am fine with anything.”
Tian Yang still had enough awareness to show respect—especially since Xu Yuan had saved his life.
Xu Yuan nodded and did not hesitate. He chose a lower bunk slightly further inside. The one closest to the door was less ideal, as the weather was getting colder, and opening and closing the door would be disruptive.
Tian Yang was quick-witted and took the upper bunk above Xu Yuan.
Seeing this, Feng Xiao explained,
“The family has expanded recruitment and increased the proportion of servants learning martial arts, so a few more beds were added. After next month, once duties are assigned, your accommodations will improve.”
“So your progress next month is extremely important. It will determine your future living standards and housing conditions.”
“Thank you for the guidance, Instructor Feng,” they said in unison.
Xu Yuan placed his luggage on the bed but did not even finish unpacking before standing up and saying, “Instructor Feng, let us leave the items here for now. We should go to the registration office.”
Feng Xiao had personally accompanied them and explained so many matters—it would be inappropriate to keep him waiting.
“That is indeed proper.” Feng Xiao nodded, naturally understanding Xu Yuan’s intent. He inwardly praised his thoughtfulness once more.
Afterward, Li Shan and Wang Huan remained in the dormitory, while Xu Yuan and Tian Yang followed Feng Xiao toward the registration office.
“This small stone grove on the left is for practicing the martial technique, the Thunderclap Fist… and those plum blossom stakes in the corner are best suited for stance training.”
“And over there is the meditation room, where you can calm your mind, nurture your spirit, refine your Qi and blood, and break through your cultivation.”
As they walked, Feng Xiao introduced the surroundings. Then he added a warning,
“You must work harder. You are no longer only competing with servants—there is also that group of martial trainees. They have better physical foundations and stronger family support than you.”
At this point, he revealed another piece of information:
“At the end of next month, there will be an evaluation. If by then you have broken through to the second meridian and brought Thunderclap Fist to the beginner level, you will be able to choose your own assignment for the next six months.”
“The time limit for breaking through the second meridian is four months, while advancing your martial technique is three months. If you fail at both… you will be assigned randomly.”
“Right now, the Shangyang Residence and the Bai family are at each other’s throats, competing for resources everywhere. Conflicts have already broken out in many places.”
Feng Xiao’s expression turned serious as he warned them,
“So this opportunity to choose your assignment is extremely important. Even if you cannot achieve both, you must at least succeed in one!”
“Otherwise, if the front lines become strained and you are sent there, your survival will be left to fate.”
These words were sincere and heartfelt.
Xu Yuan naturally understood their weight. He gave a deep bow. “Thank you for your guidance, Instructor Feng.”
Perhaps even if Feng Xiao had not said this, he would have realized it eventually—but only after taking many detours and wasting much time.
Now that it had been laid out clearly, he had to acknowledge this favor.
Tian Yang, listening from the side, also grew serious and respectfully bowed.
Previously, his respect for Feng Xiao had mostly come from fear of his strength and status.
But now, there was a measure of genuine sincerity in it.
Xu Yuan understood that Feng Xiao’s words were meant to form a positive connection. Only because the two of them had broken through and shown value was he willing to speak so openly.
But that was only natural. In this world, goodwill never came without reason.
“Xu Yuan, since you only broke through near the end of the month, your aptitude is clearly average. But you need not worry too much.”
Feng Xiao continued, “Next, you can focus on Thunderclap Fist. Once you reach minor mastery, you can choose a suitable assignment, earn some money, and purchase medicinal treasures. Then there will still be hope for reaching the second meridian.”
“Oh?”
Xu Yuan’s expression shifted slightly.
“There are treasures that can improve one’s aptitude?”
Feng Xiao was momentarily stunned, then shot him an annoyed look. “Aptitude is something bestowed by nature—how could it be changed? Even if such treasures exist, they are not something we can obtain.”
“What I mean is that once you become a martial artist, you can buy Blood-Activating Pills. These can increase your foundation of Qi and blood, improving your chances of breaking through.”
“After all, you have been physically deficient since childhood. You especially need such supplements to strengthen your foundation. Otherwise, it will be difficult to go far.”
So that was the case.
Xu Yuan suddenly understood. As expected, anything that could truly improve aptitude was rare no matter where one was.
“Oh, right. I remember telling you long ago that practicing the stone platform stance requires pairing it with Vein-Nourishing Soup.”
Feng Xiao seemed to recall something and continued,
“The stone platform stance allows for rapid breakthroughs in the early stages, but it actually consumes your body’s potential. The further you progress, the slower it becomes—until at some point, you may no longer advance at all.”
“That is why I told you to drink Vein-Nourishing Soup as much as possible. It can at least provide some protection.”
The two were immediately shocked. There was such a hidden secret behind stance training?
After thinking it over, Xu Yuan found it understandable. The Shangyang Residence was not a charity—it would not provide the best possible cultivation methods.
What they taught these martial trainees and servants would only be fast-track versions. Even if it meant exhausting their potential, as long as it quickly produced combat strength, it aligned with the family’s interests.
Tian Yang did not think that deeply. He only felt a chill run through his heart.
So the reason he had mastered the stance training so quickly was that he had been burning through his own potential?
What was he supposed to do in the future?
Seeing his dispirited expression, Feng Xiao snorted coldly. “That is enough. Why act like the sky is falling? You rose from a mere servant to a martial artist—are you still not satisfied?”
Xu Yuan, on the other hand, felt indifferent.
For others, this stance technique might lead to stagnation at a certain level.
But for him, as long as his skills continued to improve, his aptitude would keep rising.
What bottleneck could possibly stop him?
If he could not break through, then it only meant his aptitude was not high enough yet!
“So I am not the same as them… I have a cheat,” Xu Yuan thought to himself.
