Chapter 317 - Purple Ghosts
Jim barely had time to finish the thought before one of the ghost-like figures reached him.
WHOOSH!
Its spear shot straight towards his chest.
’Shit!’
Jim threw himself sideways.
The translucent purple spear passed inches from his body before continuing forward.
CRACK!
A huge chunk of stone exploded from the wall behind him while huge purple cracks spread everywhere.
Jim’s eyes widened immediately.
’They can damage this place?! That’s not fucking fair at all!’
He barely had time to complain before the ghost turned towards him again.
Its body blurred in an instant.
’Fast!’
Light mana gathered around Jim’s legs.
He jumped back immediately, careful not to damage the floor.
WHOOSH!
The spear swept past his stomach, missing him by barely an inch.
Jim’s hand instinctively rose up.
Golden light rapidly gathered above him, forming several bright light spears.
But just as he was about to fire, his eyes landed on the ancient buildings directly behind the ghost.
’Fuck!’
Jim canceled the spell instantly.
He just couldn’t risk it.
Even if he hit the creature perfectly, there was no guarantee his attack would stop there.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have much time to think.
Another purple ghost appeared, this time flying in the air above him.
Without hesitation, it dove down with its spear in hand.
Jim’s eyes widened instantly.
’Oh, come on!’
WHOOSH!
Bright light surrounded his legs once more.
In an instant, Jim vanished from his place.
BOOM!
The ground exploded where he’d just stood.
Several chunks of stone flew through the air as deep purple cracks spread across the floor.
Jim reappeared a few yards away and glanced back in disbelief.
’They seriously don’t give a shit about this place!’
But the grounded ghost was already moving again.
Its body blurred as it lunged forward.
WHOOSH!
Jim barely leaned aside as the spear flew past his shoulder.
The ghost-like figure immediately twisted around, sending another thrust towards him.
But this time, Jim was prepared.
A sphere of light had grown between his hands, which he placed in front of him just in time.
BOOOM!!!
The creature’s spear slammed into his light orb.
In an instant, the area lit up brightly.
BOOM!
The ghost’s figure catapulted back across the room, slamming hard into the wall.
Purple fragments scattered throughout the air where its spear had been.
Jim’s eyes immediately lit up.
’Ohoho?’ he thought, staring at the ghost embedded in the wall. ’Not so much of a ghost now!’
A grin started spreading over his face.
’I think I’m getting the hang of this now too.’
Attacking these things normally was dangerous.
There were buildings everywhere, and he had no idea what counted as damaging the ruins enough to make him disappear.
But no matter what, they’d always attack him.
’Which is perfect to set up a trap,’ he thought, rubbing his hands together. ’All I have to do is get them to hit my light spheres!’
The ghost slowly pulled itself out of the wall.
As it locked onto him again, Jim couldn’t help but smile.
’Hehehe, would you look at that!’
Suddenly, every hair on the back of his neck stood on end.
Jim’s smile instantly disappeared.
’...Huh?’
A cold sensation ran down his spine as his eyes widened.
’Behind me!’
WHOOSH!
’’AHHH! FUCK!’’ Jim screamed.
Bright light exploded around his legs as he desperately threw himself forward.
A purple spear swept through the place his back had been a split-second earlier.
Jim stumbled several steps before quickly spinning around.
The winged ghost shot past him, its large wings spreading wide before it curved back into the air.
’THERE WERE TWO OF THEM!’
He’d completely forgotten!
’Holy shit! Holy shit! That almost went straight through me!’
Jim took several rapid breaths, his heart pounding.
But after the initial shock faded, embarrassment quickly took its place.
’Alright... calm the fuck down.’
He’d been caught off guard.
That was all.
His gaze flickered between the two ghosts.
The grounded one had already pulled itself free from the wall, while the winged one circled through the air above him.
’This is fine,’ he thought, letting out a deep breath. ’It’s all completely under control.’
Golden light gathered between his hands once more.
Just then, the grounded ghost shot towards him, the horns on its head growing larger as it let out a roar.
Jim didn’t move one bit.
’COME ON!’ he shouted internally.
The spear shot straight for his head.
Jim leaned back, watching the spear go over his head.
That’s when he slammed the sphere up.
BOOOM!
Purple fragments exploded everywhere.
The ghost was knocked back several steps at the same time.
’There!’
Bright light surrounded Jim’s legs.
WHOOSH!
He vanished.
In the next instant, he appeared directly in front of the creature.
The glowing orb in his palm slammed straight into its chest.
BANG!
Purple mana scattered everywhere.
Jim didn’t let his guard down and immediately followed with another punch.
BANG!
His fist slammed straight into the ghost’s head.
Its head disappeared instantly, purple mana exploding in every direction.
The rest of its body collapsed into countless particles moments later.
’One!’
Jim didn’t even have time to celebrate.
WHOOSH!
The winged ghost dove towards him again.
But Jim was more than ready.
He slipped past its spear before punching one of its wings with his light sphere.
’Got you!’ he thought, watching the ghost crash into the ground.
Jim immediately lunged forward.
Before it could recover, he slammed another light sphere directly into its chest.
BOOOM!
Purple mana scattered everywhere.
Jim kept pressing down, plunging his light sphere deep into its chest.
The sphere instantly grew brighter.
BOOOM!
The ghost’s entire chest disappeared.
Only a moment later, its entire body began collapsing into countless purple particles.
Jim let out a breath.
’Finally.’
But just before the ghost completely disappeared, something caught his attention.
Its expression had shifted, the lifeless look vanishing from its face.
Instead, it smiled faintly before opening its mouth.
’’Sha... vara...’’
Jim froze completely.
’It spoke?’ he thought, a shiver rolling down his spine. ’What the fuck?!’
Just then, the ghost closed its eyes.
It’s expression seemed peaceful as the rest of its body scattered into particles.
