Chapter 82: Dealing With The Intruders
"Did we get him?" The girl asked as she watched all their elements wrapped together in a single spot.
There was no way he could’ve been fast enough to escape that, but they couldn’t be too sure until they saw an examiner come retrieve him.
They waited for a while but no change happened, that is, until a voice came from behind them again.
"I don’t think you did."
The trio immediately turned around, and sure enough standing behind them was Conan without a strand of hair out of place.
"Y-you," the earth user stuttered out as he pointed at him, "what the hell are you?"
It was very obviously that Conan was only toying with them at this point, and he had appeared in their blind spots twice without even attacking.
Conan just shrugged at the question, "as I said, I’m just a candidate like you three."
"Bullshit!" The water user let out, "the strongest candidate is a C-rank but you... you’re a B-Rank aren’t you?"
"Is that so?" Conan placed a hand on his chin as he thought about their words.
If the strongest candidate was at C-rank, then his chances of being in the highest class with Isla should be a lot higher now.
"I’m also at C-rank," he replied to the question.
"Liar!" the girl snapped, her brows furrowing, "no C-rank would be able to handle three D-ranks this casually, even if we’re not the strongest!"
Conan tilted his head slightly, as if genuinely considering her point.
"Is that how it works?" he asked, sounding almost curious.
As much as he was stronger now, his knowledge on rankings or even spirit mages was close to nil.
But that was one of the reasons why he was joining an academy right?
Though, the trio didn’t see his reaction from his perspective, after all, they thought he was mocking them just because he was strong.
And their next decision was even more irrational.
BOOM!
An earth fist slammed into Conan’s position, but he moved fast enough to avoid it, and the three finally had the chance to see how he had been avoiding their attacks so far.
Lightning
One of the fastest elements, right behind light of course, but even that depended on the user.
Conan managed to move fast enough to avoid multiple earth walls that suddenly appeared in his position without harm, but the next second,
Time seemed to slow down as a plant’s got dangerously close to his eyes.
The plant user had used one of the Earth user’s attacks to conceal his and the moment Conan managed to dodge the earth wall, a [Thorn] was launched at him.
Given his speed, there was no way he could move in time to dodge and just at the plant user planned, that single attack will take him out of the fight.
Or at least that’s what he thought.
A moment before the attack made contact with his eye, Conan managed to move his body out of the way.
But the attacks were barely over, because the water user suddenly used the small moment he was off balance to launch two water whips at him.
Again, unlike what they expected, Conan managed to maneuver himself just in time to avoid the whips.
But unlike the other attacks,he grabbed them before they could be withdrawn.
"You idiot," the water user said with a grin, "thank you for surrendering yourself."
The water suddenly wrapped itself around Conan’s arms but he wasn’t the least bit panicked.
Instead, he just said, "you might want to clench your teeth."
"Huh?"
Before the water user could understand what he meant, Conan unleashed multiple bolts of lightning into the whip.
"ARRRGH!"
The water user didn’t even get enough time to react to the attack before he was loaded with multiple volts of electricity, causing his neatly arranged hair to stand.
His hands were also charred and his eyes rolled back before he fully passed out.
"That’s one down," Conan said with a smile as the turned to the other two, "two more."
"You’ll pay for that," the earth user said as he coated his fist in rocks.
Tired of making long ranged attacks, he rushed towards Conan and the moment he was close enough, he swung.
BOOM!
Conan dodged his fist causing it to hit the tree behind him, completely ripping it off the ground.
"Be careful where you swing that," he said as he looked at the tree...or at least what was left of it, "someone can seriously get hurt!"
"Shut up!" The girl was the one who spoke up and the ground beneath Conan’s foot cracked open again.
What came out was a plant that seemed set on swallowing him, though it was too slow.
He dodged the attack, and the next second, a bolt of lightning crashed where the plant was, charring it.
Throughout the fight, Conan had only been mostly dodging with a grin on his face.
This was the feeling he had hoped for, strength.
He was no more a weak street rat, he was actually, very easily, taking down spirit mages, something that he would’ve never thought possible for someone like him.
Now....now he can properly protect Isla.
But before that, he needed to pass this test first.
BOOM!
An earth fist slammed into his position again and the Earth user followed up with a punch towards his head.
"I guess it’s time I ended this," Conan said as he watched the attack slowly approach.
He was certain that Adrian was pleased by his performance now, so he might as well stop playing with these two.
BANG!
His fist, coated in lightning, slammed into the boy’s stomach before his attack could reach Conan, sending him flying in the opposite direction.
The boy slammed into at tree, causing it to crack before he slowly slid down and the rock fists crumbled, showing that the had completely passed out.
"I wouldn’t normally hit a girl," Conan said as he turned to the only one standing, "but you attacked me first, so this is only fair."
"D-don’t come any closer!" The girl said as multiple vines grew between the two, blocking Conan from reaching her.
But the next second, he disappeared and reappeared behind her as he whispered, "this will hurt."
BOOM!
