Chapter 49: Is My Butler.... Jealous?
"Lady Renelle," the moment Renelle stepped out the orientation hall, a voice called out from behind.
Of course she recognized it, and she so very much wanted to ignore it, but noble etiquette didn’t allow her to.
Briefly glancing at Adrian, for some reason, she then stopped and turned towards the voice that called out to her.
Approaching the two was Cassian, his expression still completely calm as he walked forward.
"Is there something you require?" Renelle asked, getting straight to the point the moment he was close enough, "Cassian Everhart."
"I heard your engagement with the prince has been —" Cassian started, only to be cut off by her.
"I believe you were also present at the ball," Renelle bluntly said, "so you should already be aware that there is no longer any engagement to speak of."
"I see," he nodded, actually hoping that she hadn’t realized he was there, especially after that spectacle, "then I hope you are—"
"Is there anything else?" She cut him off again, clearly ready to end the conversation, mostly for his own safety since her butler seemed to be suppressing his killing intent right now.
His eyes seemed to twitch a few times before stopping.
"I would like to know you better," Cassian said, but her response came faster than he expected, completely catching him off guard.
"No."
He remained frozen for a few seconds, before regaining his bearings.
"I see," Cassian said, adjusting his glasses slightly, "then I will refrain from overstepping."
"But," he added, "we are in the same environment now, so it would do both our families good if we interacted more."
They were also in the same environment the previous year, but back then, she was engaged to the prince.
But now, she was completely free and for the taking.
"I am uninterested," she plainly replied before adding, "if that is all, then we will be taking our leave."
"Then enjoy your day, Lady Renelle," Cassian said with a small smile on his face.
But the moment Renelle and Adrian turned around, he dropped the smile, and his hand clenched into a fist.
His eyes were fixed on Adrian’s back as he walked away.
"That bastard," he muttered.
According to Cassian, this damn butler had stolen his moment, he was supposed to be the one that had stopped the prince from laying a hand on her.
Maybe even saving her like a knight, and she would be head over heels for him, then she would propose to him then and there, they’d get married and have seven kids...
"...."
Yeah, Cassian definitely wasn’t what he showed to the public, he was just a delusional fool.
But while blaming Adrian for stealing his moment, he seemed to conviently forget that he hadn’t even dared thinking of going against the crown Prince during the royal ball.
Afraid of the fact that he might just incur the wrath of the royal family which would definitely cause his old man to disown him.
"I guess I’ll just have to remove him."

Whilst Cassian was stuck in his delusional hatred for the butler, Adrian and Renelle quietly walked through the academy halls.
’Should I just kill him?’ was the thought running through Adrian’s head as he walked a step behind Renelle.
"Adrian?" His thoughts were cut off by Renelle’s voice.
"Yes, my Lady?" Adrian replied looking towards her.
Though she wasn’t looking back, he knew she had her attention on him.
"Do you know who Cassian was, in our previous lives?" She asked, another question that was out of character for her, but she felt like she needed to clear something up.
After all, a single question kept replaying in her head over and over again.
’Is my Butler.... jealous?’
It’d be dangerous if he was, especially given how much he was obsessed with her.
"Son of Grand Duke Everhart and one of the most promising prodigies in Avera, right behind the crown Prince and Saintess," he answered, recalling the information from the manhwa.
As much as Cassian presented himself as a calm, respectable figure worthy of being looked up to, Adrian knew his true nature.
He was just a delusional, cowardly and hypocritical idiot who has a crush on his Renelle.... but even this delusional idiot could be dangerous if not handled properly.
Was he thinking of removing the son of a Grand Duke? Yes.
How would he do so? He wasn’t quite sure yet, but he planned on ending the threat before it could grow.
"Anything else?" Renelle asked, still moving through the hallway.
"He also, apparently, has a crush on you," Adrian said causing her to stop and glance at him.
"Does that bother you?" She asked, looking at his expression for any bit of change.
"Yes," he nodded.
"I see," Renelle nodded, confirming her thoughts.
This obsessed butler of hers truly is jealous and for some reason, she liked it, but she was also aware enough to realize that his jealousy might be dangerous.
"He’s irrelevant," she said calmly, turning her attention forward again, "his thoughts and intentions are of no concern to me."
"I know," Adrian answered, a small smile appearing on his lips at Renelle’s attempt to reassure him.
"But if he does overstep though," Her voice suddenly turning colder, "you have my permission to respond how you see fit."
"I will keep that in mind," he answered instead.
Silence returned between the two as they exited the building where the orientation hall was, and approached the dorms block.
Both male and female dorm buildings were in similar directions, so they followed the same path towards them.
Since this was only the first day, there were less students around. But the few around immediately started whispering the moment they spotted Renelle.
At this point, news of her and the prince’s engagement being annulled, even making it’s way to some of the outer regions.
But Renelle paid them no mind as she continued walking forward, with her butler behind.
"Do they bother you?" Adrian asked quietly.
Most of the students were just unimportant extras, so removing them should be of no consequence.
"No," Renelle shook her head, as it truly did not bother her, "they’re irrelevant."
Adrian nodded as they silently continued forward.
They continued walking until the path ahead split into two, one leading toward the male dormitories and the other toward the female.
"I will see you later, my Lady," he said with a smile.
By later, he meant tonight, for their arranged date, his reward.
Renelle, clearly understanding what he meant, simply nodded.
"Later."
