Chapter 13 : At the Height of the Sun
Chapter 13: At the Height of the Sun! The Might of a Great Knight
“North Sea Merfolk? That’s also Tier 3 Beastkin meat, but that kind of Beastkin is rare, and it’s difficult to hunt in the water. It’s usually one hundred and fifty silver coins per pound. I didn’t receive any this time.”
The old woman narrowed her eyes as she sized up Leo. “Well? After asking so much, are you buying or not? I, Granny Gu, do business with clearly marked prices. I only double the price of all meat—fair to both young and old.”
Leo looked at the old woman who called herself Granny Gu.
It was the first time he had seen a seller openly admit to doubling prices.
If what she said was true, then as an exclusive merchant of the Kingdom Merchant Caravan—
Doubling the price was actually quite reasonable compared to some unscrupulous merchants from his previous life.
Moreover, according to Arthur, this Kingdom Merchant Caravan was different from those rogue caravans. The merchants were guaranteed by the Danlun Kingdom, and the quality of their goods was assured.
“Can it be a bit cheaper? I’m buying in bulk,” Leo instinctively began bargaining.
“How much are you buying?” Granny Gu asked.
“One pound.”
“Only one pound?! And you call that bulk? My smallest weight is one pound!” Granny Gu’s voice turned sharp. She was beginning to find this boy troublesome.
“Then are there any other discounts?”
“When I turn one hundred, I’ll give you twenty percent off.”
“One hundred?” Leo looked at her. “Then you’re now?”
“Ninety-seven. Three more years to go.”
Leo fell silent… that meant waiting another three years.
‘Whether this old lady can even live that long is another question.’ he thought, while showing a hesitant expression.
Granny Gu grew impatient. “Are you buying or not? If not, stop asking so many questions.”
Perhaps due to her monopoly, she had no fear of losing Leo as a customer.
Her attitude could be described as extremely poor.
“Granny Gu, one last question—what’s the difference between Rock Gnome meat and Swamp Crocodileman meat?”
“Oh my, for knights, they suit different Breathing Techniques. For you, there’s no difference. Maybe the Crocodileman meat smells a bit stronger.” Granny Gu had already begun fiddling with her pipe.
Leo held the two types of dried meat, comparing them back and forth. “Can I taste some first?”
“Damn it, no!”
After thinking it over again and again, Leo finally chose half a pound of each. “Then weigh half a pound of each for me.”
“Damn it, how do I sell half a pound? First time I’ve seen a noble’s child this stingy.” Granny Gu’s face drooped in annoyance.
Leo gave an awkward smile. He was also helpless—he only had twelve silver coins in total.
This purchase would almost use it all up.
He would buy half a pound of each and compare their effects later.
Granny Gu tinkered with her scale, repeatedly adjusting the dried meat on the trays until the pointer settled perfectly in the center.
“Watch carefully—official scale of the Kingdom Merchant Caravan. Fair to all.” Granny Gu casually tossed the wrapped dried meat over.
Meanwhile, Leo had already moved to the medicinal herbs on the other side. “Granny Gu, since I bought so much, can you throw in a little of these for free?”
“Cough! Cough!” The match she had just lit was extinguished by her coughing. She was completely exasperated—she had never seen anyone buying Beastkin meat be this talkative.
“Damn little miser. If I weren’t looking at you face-to-face, I’d think I was dealing with a cunning goblin dwarf.”
“Goblin dwarf?”
Granny Gu stopped wasting words.
She pinched a tiny bit of each herb and tossed them all into a pouch. “Take it, take it. Don’t let other customers see—I’ve never made an exception at my stall before.”
After saying that, she snatched the silver coins Leo handed over.
Leaning back in her chair, she took a puff from her pipe, finally calming down a bit.
On the other side, Leo tightly held onto his remaining two silver coins.
He tucked the package into his clothes and saw that Arthur had already been attracted to a stall selling beast hides.
Leo quickened his pace.
The herbs he had just asked for weren’t immediately useful—it was simply a habit from his previous life, like asking for free scallions at the market.
However, he knew that among the Six Knightly Arts, one discipline was Medicine.
Perhaps these herbs might prove useful in the future.
They were all very common herbs. Taking a little each time could eventually accumulate into a decent amount.
Leo upheld the fine tradition from his previous life—since his family background wasn’t wealthy, he had to be careful with his spending.
On the way back, he deliberately passed by the Golden Knight Order.
These cavalrymen still stood motionless like statues. Even their horses were the same, exuding authority from afar.
Leo slowed his steps, carefully making eye contact with each horse.
From their memory fragments, most were scenes of traveling. Only a small portion showed moments of смена.
Leo estimated that before arriving at Blackstone City, some of the knights had been rotated out.
So where had the replaced members gone?
When Leo reached the Great Knight at the front of the formation, he discovered that this horse’s memory fragments were completely different.
There was even a segment where the memory took place in the air!
Leo was startled—this Great Knight could fly!
It seemed that to expand his field of vision and observe surroundings, he had once ascended into the air and flown.
Leo continued watching—there was also a battle scene.
From the horse’s perspective, the Great Knight soared into the sky, leaping dozens of meters high.
Midair, his entire body radiated golden light, like the blazing sun suspended in the sky.
With a single slash, radiant like the midday sun, he cleaved a massive object in the air into two.
Due to the distance, it wasn’t clear—but from the horse’s perspective, that object was clearly larger than the over two-meter-tall Great Knight by a significant margin.
Immediately after, the Great Knight clad in golden armor descended like a cannonball.
Accompanied by a peculiar breathing rhythm, he continuously exhaled faint golden streams of air.
Hoo—
The Great Knight let out a long final breath, and the golden light gathered behind him like wings dissipated instantly.
That sun-like strike left a deep imprint in Leo’s mind.
What was this? Could this be the Knight Breathing Technique? A Great Knight could actually fly?
Just as Leo was rapidly thinking, the Great Knight seemed to notice something and turned his head toward him.
A mountain-like pressure surged over.
Leo felt the hairs on his body stand on end.
It was like approaching a sleeping dragon—
Only for the dragon to suddenly open its eyes and stare directly at him.
However, Leo’s mental fortitude was solid. He immediately put on an expression of admiration and muttered to himself, “What a valiant knight.”
Murmuring as he spoke, Leo walked away.
Only after entering the gates of Grey Stone City did he notice another person also watching the Golden Knight Order from afar.
Eddie?!
Leo didn’t expect him to appear here. Moreover, he noticed that in Eddie’s gaze toward the Golden Knight Order, there was a mix of longing and fanaticism.
The two brushed past each other. Eddie merely glanced sideways at Leo.
Leo, on the other hand, quickened his pace.
He was carrying quite a few valuable items—he needed to return to the castle quickly.
Along the way, Leo kept recalling that Great Knight.
The pressure he had felt at the time far surpassed that of Laforin.
If Laforin gave the impression of a very powerful human—
Then that Great Knight felt like an entirely different species.
“Great Knight… power beyond limits. A mobile fortress on the battlefield, truly capable of facing a thousand alone.”
Leo recalled the evaluation of Great Knights from the Knight’s Handbook.
But at this very moment, he truly understood the weight of those words.
