How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

Chapter 677 : Tonight, Just Pretend Mom Is Your Girlfriend

"I'm home."

Ling Ning opened the door to her home, only to be greeted by her daughter standing at the entrance, puffing up her cheeks in a display of dissatisfaction—almost as if silently scolding her for not being punctual.

Ling Ning reached out to gently pat her daughter's head and said, "Sorry, Ye Ye. I stopped by the café earlier because something interesting happened. I'll tell you all about it later, but for now, let me change out of these clothes."

"Oh~"

A short while later, Ling Ning reappeared in the living room, dressed in a fresh outfit. Taking her daughter's hand, she led her out of the house. Spending Valentine's Day out with her daughter somehow felt a little strange.

But Ling Ning quickly shook her head. She couldn't help but feel that going out with her daughter right now was, in fact, the best choice she could make.

Just as they stepped out of the residential complex, Ling Ning felt her sleeve being tugged. She turned back and asked, "What is it?"

"Mom, didn’t you say you'd tell me about the interesting thing that happened?"

"Oh~ That. Well, I went to the café today, and your Sister Chu Mengyao proposed to Sister Luo Xiaoning."

"Huh?!"

Ling Ye's mind filled in the blanks as she imagined the scene, and then, curiosity piqued, she asked, "Did Sister Luo Xiaoning say yes?"

"Of course. If she hadn't, your Sister Chu Mengyao probably would've pinned her down until she agreed... Ahem!" Realizing her words might not be suitable for her daughter, Ling Ning cleared her throat and continued, "Who knows when they'll get married? Maybe I can snag a spot as a bridesmaid—or maybe even a best man."

"Is that how it is?" Ling Ye blinked. For a moment, she wondered what would happen if she proposed to her mom instead.

But then again, she wasn't even of legal age yet. Why couldn't time pass just a little faster?

Sighing wistfully at the thought, Ling Ye felt a pang of frustration. Compared to all the other women circling her mom, the only advantage she had was that she could be by her mom's side all the time. And that was it.

While Ling Ye was lost in thought, Ling Ning suddenly asked, "Ye Ye, where would you like to go for dinner? Mom can treat you to a feast tonight."

"We don’t need anything fancy. Just take me to that place you always used to bring me to. It's been ages since we last went there."

Ling Ning immediately knew the place her daughter was referring to. Chuckling softly, she teased, "Alright then. Wherever Ye Ye wants to go. Tonight, you can just pretend Mom is your girlfriend."

"Huh?! Really?"

"Of course not. How could Mom ever be your girlfriend~" Ling Ning said with a laugh, flicking her daughter lightly on the forehead.

"Oh."

Ling Ye lowered her head, her voice barely audible as she replied.

After a short walk, the two arrived at the small restaurant they often frequented. They greeted the owner briefly before finding a seat.

"Order whatever you like. Tonight, it’s Mom’s treat!"

"No need! Tonight, Ye Ye will be the one treating you!" Ling Ye patted her small purse with a confident smile. Don’t underestimate her finances—she had some savings, though admittedly not much.

Seeing her daughter’s earnest expression, Ling Ning smiled gently. "Alright then. Tonight, I’ll let Ye Ye treat me~"

Though they referred to it as a feast, it was just the two of them, so they simply ordered the dishes they used to get in the past.

Watching the lively atmosphere of the restaurant, Ling Ning couldn’t help but sigh. "I used to bring Ye Ye here every time I got my paycheck~"

"Mm."

Ling Ye nodded slightly, her mind wandering back to those days.

"Ye Ye, do you prefer our current life, or the way things were back then?"

"The past!"

Ling Ye answered without hesitation.

Though life had been tougher back then, it had been just the two of them. That was all she needed. But now, she felt like her mom was growing more and more distant from her. She didn’t want it to be like this.

Ling Ning was taken aback by her daughter’s response. "What was so good about the way things were before?"

"Because back then, Mom was always by my side."

Ling Ning opened her mouth but found herself at a loss for words. Her daughter was right—she had indeed been spending less and less time with her lately. There was always something else demanding her attention.

Realizing this, Ling Ning reached out and placed her hand on her daughter’s head once more. "From now on, Mom will make sure to spend more time with Ye Ye."

"Mm."

Ling Ye pressed her lips together. In her mom's eyes, she would always just be her daughter. But she didn’t want things to stay that way. Soon, her mom would surely realize her true feelings.

Before long, their food arrived. Looking at the enticing dishes on the table and her mom sitting across from her, Ling Ye felt as though she had been transported back in time. But it was just an illusion.

"Eat up. Once we’re done, we’ll go for a stroll."

"Okay."

After finishing their meal, Ling Ning and Ling Ye stepped out of the small restaurant. Looking up at the night sky, Ling Ning asked, "Ye Ye, where do you want to go next?"

"Anywhere’s fine. As long as Mom is with me, it doesn’t matter where we go!"

"Then let’s just wander around."

As they walked down the street, Ling Ning scanned the rows of shops, wondering where they should stop by next.

Suddenly, Ling Ye pointed at a nearby pharmacy and asked, "Mom, why would a pharmacy have Valentine’s Day discounts?"

"That... even if you ask me, I have no idea."

Ling Ning tilted her head, bemused. A pharmacy offering Valentine’s Day discounts? That was a new one.

Before they knew it, they found themselves near their old neighborhood. Seeing the familiar sights around her, Ling Ning felt a wave of nostalgia.

"Mom, do you remember that store over there?" Ling Ye pointed to the first hardware shop in sight.

"Mm, I remember it used to be a bakery. I didn’t expect it to turn into a hardware store. I still recall how you used to go there to buy little cakes all the time. Most of your childhood allowance went to that bakery, didn’t it~"

"Th-that’s not true!" Ling Ye stammered in protest.

"Come on now. Did you really think you could hide things from your mom?" Ling Ning teased, giving her daughter a knowing look.

"Ugh!"
