Chapter 675 : Hello, I’m Ling Ning’s New Girlfriend!
"There are two places where I work. Which one are you talking about? And by the way, why are you so interested in my workplace?" Ling Ning asked, a bit speechless.
"Well, obviously because it’s better to work somewhere with people you know! Think about it—if I were to encounter a... let’s say, unspoken rule situation, wouldn’t I be able to call you for help~?" Zhao Rui replied with a mischievous smile.
"Sorry, but both of my bosses are women. One of them even has a girlfriend already, thank you very much."
Zhao Rui wasn’t surprised by Ling Ning’s answer. She had already done her homework. She knew exactly where Ling Ning worked, who her bosses were, and even the details about the staff.
As if a thought struck her, Ling Ning suddenly asked, "By the way, Senior, aren’t you studying business management?"
"Yes, is there a problem?"
"Not really. I’ll help you ask around later. But for now, how about trying a part-time job at a maid café?"
"Huh!? You mean like the ones in anime?"
"Something like that, but think of it more as an ordinary café where the staff just happen to wear maid outfits. That’s closer to the reality," Ling Ning explained.
Zhao Rui smiled faintly. "Sounds interesting. But tell me, Ling Ning, are you so sure I’d get hired?"
"It shouldn’t be a problem. If I know the boss, she’ll hire any cute girl."
"Is Junior Ling Ning calling me cute?"
Ling Ning opened her mouth but found herself at a loss for words. With a sigh of resignation, she said, "Fine. Whenever you’re free, just come with me and take a look."
"How about this afternoon? If I’m not mistaken, Junior Ling Ning seems to have plenty of free time then."
Ling Ning glanced at Zhao Rui with a blank expression. How does she know everything?
"Alright, it’s settled then. I’ll come find you after your classes. Don’t stand me up, Junior Ling Ning. Who knows what might happen if you do~?"
Zhao Rui said with a chuckle before walking off, visibly pleased.
Ling Ning sighed again. She really wasn’t good at dealing with people like Zhao Rui.
Heading to the activities room, Ling Ning found the setup much the same as the previous day, except Zhao Rui was absent. After greeting Lin Xi and Luo Xiaoyu, she flopped onto Xia You’s lap and started a nap.
Lin Xi, who was watching anime with Luo Xiaoyu, glanced at Ling Ning lying on Xia You’s lap. For some reason, Zhao Rui’s words from the previous day surfaced in her mind. She pursed her lips, her eyes flickering as though deep in thought.
Luo Xiaoyu noticed Lin Xi’s strange behavior and gave her a puzzled look. She had no idea what was going on, but she didn’t care much. Compared to that, the anime they were watching seemed far more entertaining.
Wait a second—how did I even fall into the anime trap?
Luo Xiaoyu thought to herself, now lost in her own musings.
"Ling Ning, are we heading back now?"
"No, I still need to take Senior Zhao Rui to the café this afternoon. You go on ahead, Xia You." Remembering her agreement with Zhao Rui earlier, Ling Ning sighed in resignation.
Xia You raised an eyebrow as though she wanted to say something. But after a moment of hesitation, she simply nodded and left.
Not long after Xia You left, Ling Ning saw Zhao Rui appear at the classroom door. The remaining classmates looked surprised at Zhao Rui’s arrival, but when they saw Ling Ning walking toward her, their expressions shifted to one of understanding.
"Senior, you’re right on time."
"Of course! I’m very punctual," Zhao Rui replied with a soft laugh, casually linking her arm with Ling Ning’s. To outsiders, they looked like close friends.
Ling Ning sighed, deciding not to argue. Even if she protested, Zhao Rui probably wouldn’t let go, so why bother?
After leaving the school, Ling Ning hailed a cab to save time. After giving the driver the address, she gazed out the window absentmindedly. In such a modern city, there wasn’t much scenery to admire.
Suddenly, she felt Zhao Rui lean closer. Zhao Rui brought her lips near Ling Ning’s ear and whispered, "Ling Ning, what kind of person is your boss?"
"A lolicon."
Zhao Rui froze for a moment but quickly recovered, then mischievously licked Ling Ning’s ear.
A faint blush spread across Ling Ning’s face as she felt the strange sensation. She hadn’t expected Zhao Rui to be so bold, doing something like this in a cab. What if they got caught?
She glanced nervously at the driver, relieved to see no reaction from him. Only then did she relax a little.
"Ling Ning is just too cute—I couldn’t resist. I’ll be more careful next time."
Zhao Rui said. But her expression showed no sign of remorse.
After a not-too-long, not-too-short ride, they finally arrived at their destination.
Standing before the maid café, Zhao Rui seemed intrigued. Although she had researched it before, she had never visited in person, delegating the task to others.
As they stepped inside, Ling Ning noticed the café was unexpectedly busy, even though it was Valentine’s Day. Why was that?
The moment Ling Ning entered, Chu Mengyao, who was standing near the counter, froze briefly before walking over with a bright smile. "Well, if it isn’t Ling Ning. Are you here on a Valentine’s date with your new girlfriend?"
"Hello, I’m Ling Ning’s new girlfriend!" Zhao Rui declared cheerfully.
Their exchange nearly made Ling Ning cough up blood. Taking a deep breath, she retorted, "Even if I were on a date, I wouldn’t choose a place where everyone knows me!"
"Oh!? What a shame. So, is Ling Ning here to help out for Valentine’s Day?"
"Not at all. But I did bring a new helper," Ling Ning replied, gesturing toward Zhao Rui.
"Oh~"
Chu Mengyao’s eyes sparkled with a peculiar light as she examined Zhao Rui.
Even someone like Zhao Rui couldn’t help but feel uneasy under Chu Mengyao’s gaze.
