How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

Chapter 648 : Ling Ye's Resolve

"It's the New Year~"

Ling Ning lay on her bed, gazing at the time displayed on her phone screen. Today was Lunar New Year’s Eve—the second one she had experienced since her reincarnation. She couldn’t help but feel a bit sentimental.

After spending so much time in this world, she found it hard to recall what her life before reincarnation was like. Time truly had a way of erasing everything, didn’t it?

Still, her journey was far from over. This was only her second Lunar New Year’s Eve; there would be many more to come.

For some reason, that thought felt like setting a strange flag, but Ling Ning shook it off as mere imagination.

She sighed, feeling a reluctance to leave her bed despite it being ten in the morning. The cold air outside couldn’t compare to the warmth of her cozy blankets. And with the added bonus of her "daughter pillow," she was in paradise.

Suddenly, the blanket shifted, and a small head popped out. Ling Ye, with her sleepy eyes, glanced at her Mom and murmured, "Good morning, Mom."

"Good morning~"

Every day, seeing her daughter’s adorable face instantly brightened Ling Ning’s mood. Daughters truly were the best.

After wiggling around for a bit, Ling Ye blinked and said, "Mom, I’m hungry."

Without hesitation, Ling Ning got out of bed. "Alright, Mom will make breakfast right away. Ye Ye, you should get up too!"

Ling Ye watched her mom’s retreating figure. Just a moment ago, she had clearly been reluctant to get up, yet now she moved without hesitation after hearing those words. A faint smile appeared on Ling Ye’s face, but it quickly faded as a wave of melancholy swept over her.

She threw off the blanket, climbed out of bed, and stood before the mirror. Her disheveled hair and her small, cute face reflected back—a picture of an endearing little girl. But she wanted to grow up faster. Time was running out.

Why did she have to be Mom’s daughter?

Ling Ye often asked herself this. While being her Mom’s daughter brought her happiness, human desires were insatiable. At some point, her feelings for her Mom had taken a peculiar turn.

She no longer wanted to be just her Mom’s daughter. She wanted to be like the other women around her Mom—someone who could speak her mind freely, without being treated like a child.

A love unfulfilled in time.

Perhaps that was the sentiment. Why couldn’t she have the power to traverse time, like in the novels? If she could...

A bitter smile crossed her face. How old was she, still thinking about such unrealistic things? If her mom found out, she would probably laugh at her until her sides hurt.

While Ling Ye was lost in thought, her bedroom door suddenly opened.

Ling Ning entered, spotting her daughter standing in front of the mirror in a thin nightgown. Grabbing a coat from the side, she walked over. "Ye Ye, if you’re up, put on your clothes. It’s freezing here without heating~."

At that moment, Ling Ye turned and hugged her Mom tightly.

Ling Ning froze for a second before gently stroking her daughter’s soft hair. "What’s wrong, Ye Ye~?"

"Don’t leave me."

"Are you still half-asleep? Why would Mom ever leave you~?" Ling Ning chuckled softly, assuming her daughter had a nonsensical dream. Still, Ye Ye seemed unusually clingy today.

Before she could think further, Ling Ye released her embrace and flashed a cheerful smile. "Mom, I’m going to wash up now. I want breakfast!"

"Alright, alright, I’ll get started right away~."

Watching her mom walk away, Ling Ye’s smile slowly faded, replaced by disappointment. As expected, Mom only saw her as a daughter. Why did it have to be like this?

Then again, no Mom would ever suspect her daughter of harboring such feelings, would they?

With a self-deprecating chuckle, Ling Ye quietly walked out to wash up.

After a while, Ling Ye emerged from the bathroom to find breakfast already laid out on the table, steaming hot. The sight made her stomach growl; she hadn’t eaten much the night before.

"Ye Ye, it’s your favorite—century egg and lean meat porridge! Mom even added extra century eggs for you!"

"Thank you, Mom~!"

Grinning, Ling Ye leaned in and planted a kiss on her mom’s cheek. This was her small moment of solace, her only way to feel closer.

Ling Ning, used to her daughter’s antics, simply wiped her cheek and sighed. There was no point in saying anything anymore; no matter what she said, Ye Ye wouldn’t change her ways.

It was the perfect example of "You talk, I’ll do what I want."

After breakfast, Ling Ning tidied up the dishes and said, "Ye Ye, I’m going to check if your Sister Xia You’s fever has gone down. I’ll be back soon~."

"Mm, I got it."

Once her Mom had left, Ling Ye burrowed back under the kotatsu, deep in thought. How could she get Mom to notice her feelings?

A flurry of ideas from her "study materials" came to mind, but she dismissed them all. Most of them were unrealistic or inapplicable to real life. Wait...

Suddenly, an idea struck her. It might just work.

A faint smile spread across her face. Though the plan needed refinement, it was feasible.

With renewed determination, Ling Ye dashed out of the kotatsu and into her room. Moments later, she returned with her laptop and began typing furiously.

Had Ling Ning been there to see her daughter at that moment, she would have noticed the unprecedented seriousness on her face—far beyond what she usually displayed while writing her novels.

After all, this was about confessing her feelings to Mom. There was no room for error. This time, she would succeed.
