Chapter 628 : Ling Ning, Doesn’t It Feel Thrilling
“Um... Sister, don’t you think it’s time to get off me now?”
Ling Ning carefully addressed Bai Jie, who was still on top of her. For some reason, she felt something about Bai Jie had shifted. Why had things turned out this way?
Snapped out of her trance by Ling Ning’s words, Bai Jie quickly sat up and helped Ling Ning to her feet. She muttered apologetically, “I’m so sorry. I meant to catch you, but I lost my balance.”
“It’s fine... uh, it’s getting late. I’ll be heading off now.”
Feeling the awkward atmosphere lingering around them, Ling Ning decided to make a quick exit. While running away might seem cowardly, it was sometimes the wisest choice.
As Ling Ning’s figure disappeared, Bai Jie opened her mouth as if to call her back but stopped herself just in time. Her daughter was home, after all, and if anything suspicious was noticed, Bai Jie wouldn’t know how to explain herself.
But what on earth was going on with her?
Bai Jie pressed her lips together, picked up the groceries she had dropped, and unlocked her door. Upon entering, she was greeted by the sight of her daughter sitting cheerfully on the couch, engrossed in a TV show.
“Yiyue, you seem to be in quite a good mood today.”
“Mm-hmm, I went out for a walk with Ling Ning today~”
As she thought back to the day’s events, Bai Yiyue’s lips curved into a radiant smile.
Seeing her daughter’s smile, Bai Jie felt a growing sense of guilt gnawing at her. Shaking her head lightly, she carried the groceries into the kitchen.
Bai Yiyue glanced at her mother, a puzzled expression crossing her face. She had a nagging feeling that something was off with her mom lately.
But... maybe it was just her imagination.
Meanwhile, outside the apartment complex, Ling Ning let out a breath of relief. She couldn’t help but recall the way Bai Jie had looked at her. It reminded her uncomfortably of the way Qin Qing had gazed at her just the night before. It was... unsettling, to say the least.
Pulling out her phone for a quick glance at the time, Ling Ning flagged down a taxi.
Arriving at her apartment building, she got out of the cab, only to spot a familiar figure in the distance. The icy expression that seemed to warn strangers to stay away could only belong to Ye Xuan.
Sneaking up on Ye Xuan as quietly as possible, Ling Ning was about to spring a surprise attack when Ye Xuan spoke without turning around. “Ling Ning.”
“Huh!?”
Ling Ning froze, wide-eyed. She hadn’t made a sound or even gotten close. How had Ye Xuan noticed her? It left Ling Ning utterly baffled.
Ye Xuan turned to face her, her gaze sweeping over Ling Ning before landing on her long legs. At that moment, a flash of fervent intensity flickered in Ye Xuan’s eyes.
Feeling Ye Xuan’s gaze lingering on her legs, Ling Ning fidgeted uneasily. It was as if Ye Xuan’s eyes were stripping her bare. The memory of Ye Xuan touching her before surfaced in Ling Ning’s mind, making her even more uncomfortable.
Trying to shake off the awkwardness, Ling Ning cleared her throat and asked, “So... Ye Xuan, isn’t school on break now? You don’t have anything to do. Why didn’t you go home?”
“Just didn’t want to. That’s all.”
“Uh...”
Ye Xuan’s curt reply left Ling Ning at a loss for words. She had grown accustomed to Ye Xuan’s frosty demeanor but knew how stubborn she could be.
An idea struck Ling Ning, and she smiled. “Ye Xuan, how about coming over for dinner tonight?”
“Okay.”
Ye Xuan’s response was so immediate and straightforward that Ling Ning didn’t know what to say. It was as if Ye Xuan didn’t even know how to decline.
“Well then, let’s head inside. It’s getting cold out~” Ling Ning led the way toward the apartment complex, with Ye Xuan quietly following.
While waiting for the elevator, Ling Ning suddenly felt a familiar hand creeping onto her thigh. That unmistakable touch could only belong to Ye Xuan.
Glancing around to ensure no one else was around, Ling Ning hissed, “Can’t you wait until we’re alone to do this?”
“I couldn’t resist.”
Despite speaking, Ye Xuan didn’t stop her actions, even attempting to venture higher before Ling Ning firmly stopped her.
Meeting Ling Ning’s stern gaze, Ye Xuan clicked her tongue but continued to savor the feel of Ling Ning’s stockings and the softness of her thighs.
At that moment, a voice Ling Ning recognized all too well interrupted them. “Ling Ning, just got off work?”
The speaker was a middle-aged woman who lived on the same floor, accompanied by her elementary-aged daughter. Ling Ning often bumped into them and always greeted them politely.
“Sister Liao! And Xiao Mo Mo~ You’ve been so well-behaved today~” Ling Ning responded with a light laugh, playfully ruffling the little girl’s hair.
Though the girl pretended to pout in protest, her expression showed she enjoyed the attention.
Just then, the elevator arrived. After the people inside stepped out, Ling Ning and the others entered. As Ling Ning chatted casually with her neighbor, she suddenly felt Ye Xuan’s hand return to her thigh.
Ling Ning’s expression stiffened. Was Ye Xuan seriously doing this in front of other people? The boldness was utterly shocking.
Turning her head, Ling Ning shot Ye Xuan a fierce glare, but Ye Xuan’s face remained as impassive as ever, her icy demeanor completely unchanging. She didn’t look like someone who was up to anything mischievous.
“What’s wrong, Ling Ning?” the neighbor asked curiously.
“N-nothing. I just thought I felt a mosquito. Strange, given it’s winter.”
“Is that so?”
As the two exchanged pleasantries, Ling Ning noticed Ye Xuan’s hand inching upward again. The sheer audacity left Ling Ning mortified. If someone found out, she’d be doomed!
The mix of nervousness and tension painted a faint blush on Ling Ning’s cheeks, though her voice remained steady. Thankfully, the elevator reached their floor quickly. Only after the others had left did Ling Ning finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Once they exited the elevator, Ling Ning glared at Ye Xuan. “Didn’t you see there were people around?”
“I did. But Ling Ning, doesn’t it feel thrilling when there are people?” Ye Xuan replied with complete seriousness.
“I...”
