Chapter 609 : A Major Incident
“Ugh...”
Bai Jie slowly opened her eyes, groaning at the discomfort throbbing in her head. She must have drunk a lot last night—probably because Ling Ning had been there to keep her company.
Or maybe it was because she’d gotten carried away and opened a second bottle. Ling Ning’s drinking ability, however, was truly impressive. Even after so much wine, she hadn’t shown the slightest sign of inebriation. Bai Jie recalled Ling Ning helping her to her room and couldn’t help but smile faintly at the thought.
But that faint smile froze as Bai Jie’s hand brushed against something soft. It wasn’t hers.
Turning her head instinctively, she saw Ling Ning lying beside her. From this angle, it was clear Ling Ning wasn’t wearing anything. No, neither of them were wearing anything—not even underwear.
Glancing around the room, Bai Jie noticed the disarray. Clothes, bras, and panties were scattered all over the floor—hers and Ling Ning’s.
Flashes of memory from the previous night surfaced in her mind. They were fragmented, hazy, and involved... Ling Ning. No, this had to be a dream, right?
Her gaze shifted back to Ling Ning. The faint marks on Ling Ning’s neck—kiss marks—confirmed her fears. This wasn’t a dream. What had she done with Ling Ning last night!?
As Bai Jie wrestled with her thoughts, Ling Ning, still half-asleep, stirred and slowly opened her eyes. Her first sight was Bai Jie’s tense expression.
“Good morning, Sister~”
After greeting her, Ling Ning closed her eyes again, but only for a moment. Something felt off. Her eyes snapped back open, and she realized she was in Bai Jie’s bed—naked. Bai Jie, too, was clearly unclothed.
The soreness in her body only added to the grim realization that things were far from simple.
Their eyes met in silence. Ling Ning hesitantly lifted the blanket. Though she desperately hoped nothing had happened, the evidence was undeniable. The marks on her body, the dried stains on the sheets—it all pointed to the same conclusion.
As fragments of the previous night began to resurface in their memories, Bai Jie was the first to speak. “Um... Ling Ning, about last night...”
“There’s no need to say anything. It was just the alcohol.”
Ling Ning said with a soft sigh, getting up to dress. Her voice was calm, but her thoughts were a chaotic storm.
If she had known this would happen, she wouldn’t have drunk so much. This was classic drunken debauchery.
Once dressed, Ling Ning went to the bathroom. Looking at the marks on her body in the mirror, she felt a mix of regret and resignation. The ones on her neck were especially problematic. She’d have to borrow a turtleneck from Bai Jie.
Her phone suddenly buzzed violently, snapping her out of her thoughts. She retrieved it from her coat and saw it was Xia You calling. She also noticed a string of missed calls and messages from her “daughter.”
“Hello? Xia You?”
“Ling Ning! Why are you just now answering? And why aren’t you at school?” Xia You’s voice carried a hint of panic.
“Oh, that... I had some wine at Teacher Bai Jie’s place last night and accidentally overslept. I’ll be back at school this afternoon,” Ling Ning replied, trying to sound as normal as possible.
“I see. Well, if anything happens, call me immediately, okay? No matter how far I am, I’ll come to you right away!”
“Mm.”
After hanging up, Ling Ning sighed and returned to Bai Jie’s room. Bai Jie was now dressed and sitting on the bed, her expression vacant, lost in thought.
Ling Ning hesitated before speaking. “Sister, could I borrow a turtleneck? I... need to cover these marks.”
Bai Jie snapped out of her daze at Ling Ning’s voice and nodded.
“Sure. You can take a shower first. I’ll leave the clothes for you outside.”
“Thanks.”
Ling Ning headed back to the bathroom, and Bai Jie sighed heavily once the door closed. Ling Ning might act unaffected, but Bai Jie couldn’t dismiss what had happened. The memories from last night replayed in her mind like a poison she couldn’t shake.
Her face flushed as the details resurfaced, but she quickly shook her head, trying to dispel the thoughts. Rising to her feet, she opened her wardrobe and started looking for suitable clothes for Ling Ning.
Placing the clothes in the changing area, she called out hesitantly, “Ling Ning, I’ve left the clothes here. Let me know if you need anything else.”
“...Alright.”
After a while, Ling Ning emerged from the bathroom, fully dressed, and made her way to the living room. Bai Jie was in the kitchen, preparing something. Judging by the time, it was likely lunch. Considering how much they had drunk the previous night, neither of them had eaten properly. Ling Ning’s stomach was growling loudly.
Hearing Ling Ning’s footsteps, Bai Jie turned and gave her a faint smile. “Take a seat, Ling Ning. Lunch will be ready soon.”
“Okay.”
Ling Ning sat on the sofa and switched on the TV. She wasn’t paying attention to the channel or program; she just needed a distraction.
Thinking about the events of the previous night, Ling Ning couldn’t help but feel at a loss. Why did it have to be Bai Jie?
