Chapter 594 : A Discovery
“Is that so?”
Ling Ning nodded thoughtfully. Though Bai Jie didn’t have much experience in such matters, she still provided a thorough analysis. However, Ling Ning felt she hadn’t gained any useful insight.
“By the way, the noodles are ready—eat up!”
“Oh, right!”
Prompted by Bai Jie’s words, Ling Ning realized her instant noodles were ready. As she peeled off the lid, the fragrant aroma brought a smile to her face.
“So, Ling Ning, where do you usually spend your lunch breaks?” Bai Jie asked curiously.
“Lunch? I’m usually at the clubroom.”
“Your club… that’s the Manga Research Club, right? Is it for club activities? Sounds nice.”
Ling Ning chuckled awkwardly. In reality, her club’s “activities” consisted of watching anime, gaming, snacking, drinking tea, and napping. If Bai Jie knew, well… it was better to keep her in the dark.
A single cup of noodles wasn’t much, and for two people who hadn’t eaten a proper lunch, it was gone in no time. Just as Bai Jie stood to pour out the leftover broth, she accidentally tripped over a nearby chair. The cup of noodles in her hand tipped over and spilled onto the table—and Ling Ning’s clothes.
Fortunately, the broth had cooled and didn’t cause any burns. However, Ling Ning’s clothes were now soaked, exuding the unmistakable scent of braised beef.
“I’m so sorry, Ling Ning! Are you alright?!” Bai Jie grabbed some tissues in a panic.
Ling Ning waved it off with a small smile. “I’m fine, but Sister, could I borrow your bathroom?”
As someone with a mild obsession for cleanliness, the feeling of the broth-soaked clothes was making her uncomfortable.
“Of course! Go take a shower, and you can borrow my clothes. Use the blue towel.”
Stepping into the bathroom, Ling Ning sighed as the hot water washed over her. Today seemed like a string of bad luck—not only had lunch been a bust, but now she was covered in noodle broth. Still, at least it had happened at Bai Jie’s dorm.
While Ling Ning showered, Bai Jie cleaned up the mess and then went to her room to find a change of clothes. She couldn’t believe she had embarrassed herself in front of Ling Ning.
Once she picked out an outfit, Bai Jie headed to the bathroom. As she approached, she noticed the door was slightly ajar. It wasn’t uncommon for her bathroom door to not close properly—it was a known quirk of the latch.
After hesitating for a moment, Bai Jie decided not to push the door open. Instead, she gently knocked. However, the slight pressure caused the already ajar door to swing open.
What greeted her was the sight of Ling Ning’s silhouette through the foggy shower glass. The contours of her figure were visible through the misty barrier, a scene that was strangely alluring.
Bai Jie quickly snapped out of it, clearing her throat. “Ling Ning, I left some clothes for you at the door. Also, your bathroom door wasn’t properly closed.”
“Oh, thanks, Sister,” Ling Ning replied casually, showing no sign of surprise at Bai Jie’s presence.
Bai Jie returned to the living room and sat on the couch. Her mind wandered back to the moment she had just witnessed, marveling at how well-proportioned Ling Ning’s figure was. What a truly enviable girl.
Some time later, Ling Ning reappeared in the living room, now dressed in fresh clothes. She looked visibly refreshed.
“Sorry about earlier,” Bai Jie apologized with a sheepish expression.
“It’s no big deal~” Ling Ning replied nonchalantly.
“I’ll wash your clothes and return them to Yiyue. Since the clothes were hers, I assume that’s fine?”
“Yeah, they’re hers. I borrowed them last night. Just give them back to her. As for your clothes, Sister, I’ll return them once I’ve cleaned them.”
Ling Ning found Bai Jie’s clothes to be surprisingly comfortable, though the style was a bit more mature. From lace-trimmed undergarments to sophisticated outerwear, it was a far cry from her usual cute bear-patterned panties. But with pants on, it wasn’t an issue.
“By the way, there’s still some time before afternoon classes. You can take a nap on my bed if you want.”
“No need. I’ll just rest here on the couch.”
Saying that, Ling Ning leaned back and closed her eyes, settling in to relax. Bai Jie glanced at her briefly before disappearing into her room. She returned moments later with a small blanket, draping it over Ling Ning.
With the heater on, the blanket was enough to keep the room cozy.
Seeing that Ling Ning had fallen asleep, Bai Jie sighed softly and decided to rest as well. She sat beside her on the couch and soon dozed off.
When Bai Jie woke up, Ling Ning was no longer on the couch. Instead, the blanket that had been covering Ling Ning was now draped over her.
Looking at the blanket, a faint smile appeared on Bai Jie’s lips. She checked her phone and saw that it was already past 4 p.m. She hadn’t realized she’d slept for so long.
Standing up and stretching, she decided to pack up her things and head home. She hadn’t been back in days and wondered if her daughter had made a mess of the house.
Her thoughts wandered to the night before, when Ling Ning had stayed at her house. Could her daughter and Ling Ning have…?
Bai Jie quickly shook her head, dismissing the absurd idea. She focused on packing her belongings, mostly just some clothes to take home.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Curious, Bai Jie opened the door and found Bai Yiyue smiling brightly on the other side.
“What brings you here?”
“I heard you’d be heading home today, so I thought I’d come help you pack,” Bai Yiyue replied cheerfully, though she had no intention of admitting she’d initially been looking for Ling Ning and had come here only after failing to find her.
“Is that so?”
Once inside, Bai Yiyue busied herself helping Bai Jie pack. However, when she opened the washing machine, she spotted something peculiar—a single set of clothes that clearly belonged to her, the ones she had lent Ling Ning the night before.
Why were her clothes in her mother’s laundry?
