“Ling Ning, stay tonight.”
Hearing Bai Yiyue’s words, Ling Ning turned her head silently and glanced at the bright and eager look in her eyes. Then, she asked, “Why?”
“Because… because I’m the only one at home, and I’m a bit scared. Think about it—what if someone suspicious breaks in while I’m sleeping? You wouldn’t get to see me again!” Bai Yiyue said with a serious expression.
Ling Ning’s face showed a faint trace of disdain as she replied, “I can’t imagine someone who laughs out loud while watching horror movies being afraid of anything. And do you really think the security guards in this neighborhood are just decorations? Besides, even if I stay, it would just mean giving the intruder another victim.”
Bai Yiyue opened her mouth, but for a moment, she couldn’t find a retort. She regretted laughing during those horror movies now, but she truly couldn’t help it. What others found terrifying, she somehow found comical.
Perhaps her sense of humor was simply different from others’.
Seeing Bai Yiyue’s crestfallen expression, Ling Ning sighed lightly and said, “You’re impossible. Fine, I’ll stay. But I’m warning you—no funny business, or I’ll leave immediately.”
At Ling Ning’s words, Bai Yiyue’s dejected expression vanished in an instant, replaced by sheer excitement. Ling Ning hadn’t changed at all. As long as she played the pitiful card, Ling Ning would always find a way to cheer her up.
Watching Bai Yiyue’s nearly jubilant expression, Ling Ning sighed softly. It wasn’t as if she couldn’t see through the act, but she was too tired to care. She had woken up early and hadn’t had a chance to rest at noon, and now all she wanted to do was sleep.
After silently calling her daughter and Xia You, Ling Ning flopped onto the sofa with a lethargic air. Right now, all she wanted was to embrace her salted-fish lifestyle.
Bai Yiyue’s eyes gleamed as she looked at Ling Ning lying on the sofa. The slight shift in Ling Ning’s posture had caused her skirt to ride up a little.
That tantalizing sight of something almost visible yet not was simply too perfect.
Noticing Bai Yiyue’s intense gaze, Ling Ning gave her an expressionless look and asked, “Enjoying the view?”
“Very much so. If the skirt moved up just a bit more, that would be—hmm!?”
Bai Yiyue abruptly stopped and looked up to find Ling Ning staring at her impassively. But Bai Yiyue, being who she was, merely coughed lightly and got up, saying, “Well… I’ll go take a bath now.”
Without waiting for a response, she darted away like a gust of wind.
Watching Bai Yiyue disappear, Ling Ning sighed lightly. The Bai Yiyue in her memory was such an adorable little girl. How had she turned into this?
Shaking her head, Ling Ning turned her attention back to the TV. A horror movie was currently playing, and it was quite decent in terms of atmosphere and plot.
Perhaps because she had watched so many horror movies with her daughter, Ling Ning had grown rather fond of the genre.
Meanwhile, in her room, Bai Yiyue crouched down in front of her wardrobe and began rummaging through it. If she remembered correctly, the ultimate lingerie she had purchased should be in the bottom drawer.
After a bit of searching, Bai Yiyue finally pulled out a set of sensual lingerie. This was her ultimate weapon, purchased online. Whether or not it would be useful tonight, she decided to put it on first, just in case.

Hearing Bai Yiyue’s voice, Ling Ning lazily nodded. “I’ll go after I finish this movie.”
Hearing that Ling Ning was watching a movie, Bai Yiyue, who had planned to dry her hair first, came out wrapped in a towel.
Looking at Bai Yiyue in her thin nightgown, Ling Ning raised an eyebrow. Though the room was heated, there was no need to dress so lightly, was there? Even the contours of her undergarments were faintly visible.
“What’s wrong? Are you captivated by my beauty?” Bai Yiyue asked with a mischievous grin.
“You could be even more shameless.”
Bai Yiyue paid no mind to Ling Ning’s remark and sat down beside her.
Seeing Bai Yiyue’s damp hair, Ling Ning sighed helplessly and said, “Hand me the towel. Don’t you know you should dry your hair before coming out?”
“Oh~”
Handing over the towel, Bai Yiyue naturally began enjoying Ling Ning’s care.
But soon, Bai Yiyue started giggling uncontrollably. The sudden laughter in the midst of a horror movie, paired with the eerie background music from the surround sound, was enough to send chills down anyone’s spine.
Even Ling Ning shivered slightly.
Feeling exasperated, Ling Ning flicked Bai Yiyue’s forehead. “Can’t you stop laughing during horror movies?”
“I can’t help it! The ghosts are just too funny.”
Thinking back to a particular scene, Bai Yiyue burst out laughing again.
In the end, what had been a decently atmospheric horror movie was utterly ruined by Bai Yiyue’s antics. Ling Ning’s expression now resembled that of someone who had exhausted themselves grinding a dungeon only to get no loot.
Perhaps intimidated by Ling Ning’s kindly yet sinister smile, Bai Yiyue instinctively scooted away, putting on her most innocent expression.
“Ling Ning, I know I was wrong! I promise not to laugh next time we watch a horror movie!”
“If I recall correctly, you said the same thing last time,” Ling Ning replied flatly.
“D-Did I? Please believe me this time, Ling Ning!”
Sighing with a mix of frustration and resignation, Ling Ning was about to get up and head for the shower when Bai Yiyue suddenly held up her phone and said, “Ling Ning, come look at this!”
Raising an eyebrow, Ling Ning leaned over to Bai Yiyue, her gaze falling on the phone screen. On it were the words: “You’ve been tricked!”
“Huh!? ... Mm!”
